Title: Poker Player gives up £23million
Post by: Bongo on September 27, 2005, 02:31:14 PM
Sorry if this has been posted before, I can't seem to find it but it's hard to keep up:

Basically he finds $44million in his VC account through some form of error and gives it back. They give him £50 for his trouble.

not the frst time they have done this. I remember about a year ago VC accidnetlay 'refunded' $247 to peoples accounts in diffrent multiples, i got 7x$247 now of course as soon as people went to withdraw they figured it out and cancelled all withdrawls, they then went around each account and got them all back.

However this didnt stop some players who frequent the 10c STT's having a crack at 10-20 limit and 2-4 No limit with the money, and i am happy to say i still profited from the situation!

Sorry Ironside, another board I frequent has a custom of posting it 3 times and I have gotten into the habit of doing it.

I can't imagine what I'd do if I woke up with $44 million in my account, or what they'd do to the guy responsible.

The real story should be "Poker Player decides not to steal from online site"

First off. £50 pounds is a joke.

Secondly, if they didn't sort it out for 2 days, he could have withdrawn at least some of it. Many sites credit the money into your account within that period.

Thirdly, kinda amusing that he couldn't get in contact with their customer service...

he could have dumped it to a few of his mates on vc, gone onto 5/10 and 10/20nl and feel "charitable" ahhhhhhhhhhh if only

Would VC be able to do anything if he did just take some of the money?

Hmm their mistake though....  u sure you couldn't get away with withdrawing some of it or tranferring to mates through soft playing them on a ring game or something? Or at least try playing the biggest stakes possible with the money in the hope of winning and getting to keep what you do.  But would they be able to get any money off you if you lost?  Also aren't they based in Gibraltar? If he managed to get some of it into his bank it might be hard to get it back off you?

Such temptations.

According to my little book of "Bad Things You Must Not Do" it says it is very very naughty and a Judge could shout at you lots and lots.

A good way of getting your mates accounts seized I guess

You could quite easily disguise it.  Just play hands against your mate when you both have a good hand and you know he has better.  How are they to know you were doing that?  As long as you still play normally with all the players and lose the odd pot to him they couldn't prove a thing  ;)! I'm not saying I would do this.  Just thinking that there could quite possibly be ways of keeping some of the money.

Don't confuse the question as to whether it is legal with can you get away with it. The first is down to you, the second is where I come in  ;D

Err i think they might have noticed when they saw £23m missing that it was in his account and stop the transfer.

Yes my point is when VC notice they have lost 23m then find it in his account, they would cancel any cashouts.

Also i am sure if he took out a larger some than he usually played then i guess it would be flagged.

If anyone read my earlier posts they will see this is not the first time something like this has happened.
