Hadn't seen that Des had posted it, so much as it pains me I can merge the topics.... ;) Title: Re: APAT Welsh Tournament Report Post by: Sheriff Fatman on February 27, 2007, 11:27:37 AM Nice report, but you sold me short on my exit hand - it was a 175,000 chip pot.
I'm 2nd in chips on the table at the time with 80,000, blinds are 4000/8000. I make it 25,000 from UTG+1 with AKo. Next player, with 7,000 chips left, pushes. 1 fold, then then next guy pushes for 60,000 chips. He doubled 2 hands earlier when he called all-in with J9o and won. The player next to him pushes for his remaining 36,000. Everyone else folds and its back to me. The pot is 140,000 and I have to put in 35,000 more. I still have 20,000 back after making the call so I'm not out of the tournament if I lose the hand. The only player who can really hurt me is the guy with 60,000 chips, losing to the other two players still leaves me with enough chips to play and if I win I'm probably chip leader, have knocked 3 players out in one hand, and am likely to have twice the chips of anyone left on my table (unless another big stack gets moved there). Its an easy call. What surprised me was that I was already ahead in the hand AK vs A7 vs AQ vs AT. 40% chance to win the whole pot, and still looking good as long as the queen doesn't hit. Naturally, the second card out was the queen. After that, I passed K3o UTG as I didn't think it'd survive and knew that I'd most likely be priced into a call in the BB on the next hand. Next hand, its folded around to MAF in the small blind who pushes. There's 28k in the pot and I've got 12k left, so I'm priced in with any two cards. The mistake I made was looking at my hand rather than calling blind, as the sight of 72o actually made me think about it. Ultimately the 72 was no good vs MAF's Q5. From my chip stack at the start of the day and the other stacks on the table it must've surprised people to see me go out so quickly but I make the same decision every time in that situation. Hopefully, my AK vs AQ hoodoo in live events (2 Luton festival final table losses with it have cost me a fair amount of money previously too) will eventually come to an end. Can't fault the weekend though, other than my choice of hotel. Had a great time.
