Beautiful and visually arresting, very well paced, easily Mel Gibson's best film. Might be inaccurate in terms of portraying the mayans but that's largely irrelevant. Many great works of fiction are historically inaccurate. That's the point about fiction. You have the licence to create, add, embellish, change, manipulate and shape a world of your own choosing. What IS important is that having created the world, you stick to the internal rules and order of that world which i think apocalypto does well. There's no deep thinking involved in the film. It's a pure white knuckle, adrenaline-pumping, bloody ride which looks and sounds great.
