Title: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Mark S. on September 28, 2005, 10:45:12 AM Playing in last evenings $20 NL Hold'Em tournament on Stars I'd buiilt my stack up to around 17k and was sitting in around 25th position when I get dealt 2-2 on the button. Blinds were 200/400.
The play was passed around to me and not wishing to give the blinds a cheap ride I raised to 2000. The SB folded, the BB called. The flop brought a nice looking J-6-2 and I once the BB checked I contemplated my move. With over 4k in the middle already I thought I'd get it over and done with and bet 10k knowing that unless the BB had caught a Jack I'd pick up the pot there and then. If he HAD caught a Jack I might get paid off! My 10k bet appeared on the table then suddenly...my connection went!! It took me over 5 minutes to get back on the table to find that my stack was now at 5k!! Not only had the guy CALLED my $10k bet I'd then been FOLDED after the turn card because I'd timed out! My $60 investment had been ruined by my ISP deciding to chop my line at that precise moment! I was out a few hands later when my 10-10 all-in bet was called by a player holding 3-3 and he hit quads! BAH!!!! Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: TightEnd on September 28, 2005, 10:49:03 AM No it has hasn't happened to me fortunately, hard luck, very unlucky....

Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Royal Flush on September 28, 2005, 10:59:19 AM lol Andrew, i dont thik this 1 is too bad, but still it must be a rather large button!
To be honest though i would love to know more about the reasoning of the 2.5x pot bet HU with a set after a pfr, is it covered in the book? Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: AndrewT on September 28, 2005, 11:10:11 AM Fair enough everyone, maybe I was a bit harsh. I've got a stinking cold at the moment and maybe it's making me a bit grumpy.
I've deleted my comment. Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: rivered on September 28, 2005, 11:28:08 AM yep that happens to me a fair bit but not due to ISP.... i have broadband and use a wireless connection which always seems to try to 'acquire a new network address' right in the middle of key hands. i've got SP2 and tried buying new wireless cards but neither seem to work... my flatmate is an IT geek and still i can't fix the problem... with the router in his bedroom we now have an ugly wire running across the hall floor every time i'm playing!
Any help much appreciated by anyone with a solution!! i know a fair few people here use wireless connections so what the hell am i doing wrong?!?! :-\ Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: dan on September 28, 2005, 11:38:07 AM ive had it happen to me i had about 4k in a tourney ave was about 7.5k blinds i think were 150/300 i raised to 1200 with KK and then got dissconected i got back in and asked the guy what won the hand he said Ace high >:(.
also i played the ntx on crypto 1 night and the first hand i was dealt 33 i was on the cutoff and there was no raise so i was going to limp in but none of my buttons would work. the flop came 737 arrrrrrrggggggggghhhhh 2 guys in the pot played it out and both went all in, the one guy had A7 the other the nut flush, i would of trebled through 1st had of the tourney, what made it worse is when i got back in and the buttons worked the guy who doubled through, who would already be out knocked me out >:( >:( Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Linksys doa good one for about £100. I seem to remember an article about wireless reception problems & ways to fix them in this month's What Laptop magazine as wel. Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: ACE2M on September 28, 2005, 11:50:10 AM Used to happen to me all the time and it is possibly the most infuriating thing ever. Watching the nuts just sitting there knowing when you get reconnected it's gone along with your money/chips.
Draw attention to the thread regarding some railbirding of the red-dog where HU on the final table and his opponent got disconnected. Red folded and waited for his opponent to reconnect and then went on to beat him form a substantial chip deficit. How many others would have done that? true gent. Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Heid on September 28, 2005, 11:59:15 AM Mark how is the broadband situation for you in Eire? I have a friend who is having real problems getting on over there, but if youi can - you need a good dsl line, and that wil minimise those problems.
This hasn't happened to me, BUT my pc is a bit old. Sometimes when I have been running two sites for a while it slows down dramatically, and it can get so bad as to take so long to show the deal, that I have timed out before I can look at my hand, and then I am set as away, and can't catch up, so I have to restart and hope that I can clear it. This happens with WH and Laddies, but strangely not with Betfair. I have a rock solid 2meg dsl line that is shared on a wired connection. I tend to restart my pc on breaks. I need a new puter, and I also need a wireless connectiona nd lappy for when I am in Acton. I also need a lottery win by the sounds of it :) Heid xx Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Mark S. on September 28, 2005, 12:51:02 PM I'm currently living in rented accommodation during the week as I'm working away from homw (Dublin).
I understand that we're on a DEMON Business 500 package with a 512k link and a contention rate of 50:1. Its an absolute joke of a package but generally it works okay in the middle of the night. ::) I investigated this new 24MB line for £24 that some broadband company is rolling out! Now if this ever gets going then there won't be any more problems now will there? In Ireland the telecoms industry is about 3 years behind the UK in terms of supply & speed. Eircom (similar to BT in that it used to be the state run telecom entity) is pulling faces everytime its asked to allow competition into its exchanges. At the momemt we have a 2MB line which costs €54 a month then on top of that you've got your phone 'rental' charges. All in all its costs me €100 a month to indulge in broadband. I could spent £30 a month in the UK and get the same service! Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Heid on September 28, 2005, 01:08:33 PM Well a 24mb line might be nice, but contention on that could be an issue, and of course it all depends on whether your line will pass the test to take that sort of throughput. Just because it was cleared for 512, doesn't mean it will for 24meg. Also you have to take into account how good the actual company is - if their service is dropping all the time, you can have as much bandwidth as they say on the tin, but it's no use if you can't get online :)
You'd hope that Demon would have infrastructure to run a business line with nop issues, but historically their connections to hub areas of the web have been sketchy at the very least. I'd make sure you have a dial up as an absolute last option, and jump on that if you have to :) Here endeth the sermon :) Heid xx I'm currently living in rented accommodation during the week as I'm working away from homw (Dublin). I was just wondering.... I have a plant in my garden that has a thin stem, purple buds and speckled white leaves. About two feet tall. I didn't plant it, but it looks very pretty do you know what it is? only asking, because it seems there's nothing you DON'T know..... Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Thank you for your intelligent response. Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Heid on September 28, 2005, 01:27:26 PM Rod,
Mark is very correct about the archaic situation in Eire - Eircom has a stranglehold ont he place. My friend who has recently returned there from a stay working here with me regularly screams in instant messages to me about the fact that he is sat on a crap connection because Eircom are taking the long long long route to get any kind of infrastructure on place, and they won't let anyone else get in there either. I know the company I work for would love to be able to get their meaty little mits on the broadband scene over there, but they won't allow it. Tragic really when you think of all the high tech firms that are out there. As for the plant Tighty, I have no idea - if it's pretty call it what you want - it's your plant :) Heid xx Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: Heid on September 28, 2005, 03:36:46 PM Theoretically - it should be - in practice it won't be.
Contention ratios (who you share the pipe with) will get in the way, and also remember that you point your browser at a web page, and it won't always be able to give you the informationa s fast as you can actually receive it. Heid xx Title: Re: Has this ever happened to you...bah!!! Post by: luckyblind on September 28, 2005, 03:45:58 PM I'd check your bill for eircom broadband Mark, I only pay 39 + vat for the 2mb line. Still extortionate compared to uk prices though.
