Title: Sick Beagle Post by: snoopy1239 on March 07, 2007, 09:43:28 PM Please can someone help me.
I woke up today at 1pm only to find myself rushing off to the loo to be sick. I haven't been drinking or smoking and I slept for a reasonable 8 hours, so my only guess is that I ate something bad for tea last night. Since that first vomit at 1pm, I have been throwing up periodically every 20-30 minutes (the gaps are thankfully increasing), so that's 15-20 times I've had to rush to the loo and stick my head down the bog. On many of those occasions, I stuck my fingers down my mouth to speed up the process as I felt so nauseous. When I didn't do this, I still threw up, it just took slightly longer and meant that I felt ill for longer. Most of my vomit is now bile, or whatever that horrible tasting yellow stuff is. I have tried sipping water, but this made no difference and just came up on my next visit. I have also tried sipping flat coke and nibbling at brown bread, but the same applies. I am writing this now after my last session. Soon I'll be feeling ill again, but for 10 minutes or so after vomiting, I don't feel too bad, just tired and am capable of reading, browsing tinternet or whatever. I am exhausted both mentally and physically and was wondering what I should do. If anyone can offer any pearls of wisdom, then please do, because being sick is starting to become really hard work and I don't want to do it anymore. Heal me someone, please. Ta. snoops ;snoopy; Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Nem on March 07, 2007, 09:45:19 PM Get to bed
Get well soon Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Indestructable on March 07, 2007, 09:46:49 PM I can't remember the old wives tale of trying flat coke and brown bread? Sure someone will have more qualified advice, but sure rest and liquids will come in to it. Get well.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Karabiner on March 07, 2007, 09:49:15 PM Dry toast and sips of cold water would be my advice, get well soon.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Colchester Kev on March 07, 2007, 09:51:57 PM 15 pints and a big fry up will cure ya.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 07, 2007, 09:52:29 PM Dont just drink water, if you can get some one to run to the shop for you get an isotonic sports drink, i.e Powerade. (this will replace the water but also the sodium and potasasium levels which is why you are feeling mentally fatigued. Also get lucozade for some energy if you are unable to eat anything.
You should not be vomiting so regualrly, means your body still thinks there is something bad in you and is trying to clean it out. Fluid is the main thing as you are propably very dehydrated but you will know yourself what sort of food might stay down. And get and see a doctor if not gone in the morning! Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: bolt pp on March 07, 2007, 09:54:22 PM You've got food poisoning, go and doss in the hospital for a couple of days.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: AndrewT on March 07, 2007, 09:59:18 PM WTF did you eat?
Don't try eating anything until you haven't thrown up for at least three hours. Wait for an hour after vomiting before trying water, and then only sipping it (if you're throwing up after drinking water then your stomach's not ready for anything yet). Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Claw75 on March 07, 2007, 09:59:59 PM Sounds like a stomach bug to me if you're bringing up bile.
I'd not eat anything, and just have very small sips of water every 10 minutes or so to keep yourself hydrated. Any more and you'll just bring it back up. Hope you're feeling better soon - I know how crappy you must be feeling now :( Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 07, 2007, 10:02:08 PM Just so it doesnt get lost in amongst the advice dont just drink water, drink isotonic drinks!!!! Will be nicer and more effective!
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Ginger on March 07, 2007, 10:02:58 PM Flat lemonade was always recommended for the kids, basically any clear fluid. As most of the others have said, avoid all food for several hours without being sick.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Ginger on March 07, 2007, 10:05:42 PM If you can get someone to go to an all night chemist, some Dioralite would be the best thing you could have. It replaces everything that you are losing.

Is drinking flat coke a good or bad idea? Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: snoopy1239 on March 07, 2007, 10:10:30 PM WTF did you eat? Thx, Andrew, I seem to be throwing up whether I drink or not. Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 07, 2007, 10:11:31 PM DONT DRINK FLAT COKE OR ANY POP.
The carbohydrates in it will slow water uptake therefore not rehydrating you!!! Only luco but again preferably Powerade and Gatorade, whatever you have down in the shops! Drink plenty water and if you can get hold of any glucose tablets they will do you the world of good. Getting sugar down you helps as well although I wouldn't recommend eating 16 mars bars or anything stupid.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 07, 2007, 10:37:12 PM 2 recipes to make ur own isotonic drinks
200ml ordinary fruit squash 800ml water A pinch of salt Mix them all together in a jug and cool down in fridge or 500ml unsweetened fruit juice (orange, apple, pineapple) 500ml water Mix them all together in a jug and cool down in fridge. Have had the first one and its nice, seconds probabl easier. cheers, KingPoker. Isn't the first one just squash though, or have I missed something? Also, is citrusy stuff good for an empty and vulnerable stomach? Dana offered me a hot orange with honey, does that sound like a good idea? Many thx again for the help, I hate wasting days, especially when I haven't been on the jars. Doesn't seem fair. Bad God! ;smackedbottom; Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 07, 2007, 11:59:28 PM like u said the top one is just squash with salt in it as im afraid that is basically the secret to powerade and electrolyte drinks. If you feel you you can drink what dana is making then do it. As i said earlier your the only one really who knows what you could keep down. If the gaps between vomiting is increasing then it is definately a good sign. If it gets to over 2 hours without throwing your guts up you might wanna take advantage of it and try and get some solids down you. Maybe just start with some from fruit like a banana. You wanna eat something with a low glycaemic value like cereal or porridge or the likes.
Good luck! Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Redbull on March 08, 2007, 12:04:34 AM Definitely sounds like food poisoning. Hopefully got whatever it was out now though. Hope you feel better soon fella.
Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: mex on March 08, 2007, 12:06:12 AM sound to quick to be food poisoning
DO NOT UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES DRINK FIZZY LUCOZADE, it may cause bleeding and the way it is made up will cause water intake to drop(there is a warning on bottle about this anyway) lucozade sport is fine,(and the orange is not too unpleasant a taste to have when its comming back up) or isotonic, or 50/50 lemonade/water. i don't know about gator aid etc power aid, i assume they are similar to isotonic so should be fine. DRINK AT ROOM TEMP NOT COLD, the shock of cold drinks on a weak stomach may cause extreme cramp and instant vomiting. Coke is bad if you've thrown up a yellow substance, (comes after the green bile stage) this is the stomach stripping itself to repair, coke may cause damage and ulcers may form. It sounds like gastro enteritis(sp) google it, i used to suffer from this every few months for about 2 years. Do not try to eat until you ve had 24hrs clear of vomiting, you mouth produces precursors for digestion, the chemicals they trigger in the stomach will be present in such low quanties that food will sit there or worse be moved on undigested(and you will add shitting yourself to the equation) just get to bed with lots to drink, stay warm because cold sweats and shakes are on the way, as your body concentrates on fixing the damage and diverts resources away from other areas, expect nasty headaches etc but don't take anything as your bowels can t handle it. I know how horrid this is expect to be out of action for a weak snoops we could just take you to be put down Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 08, 2007, 12:08:32 AM Wow where were you earlier!!!!!

Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: mex on March 08, 2007, 12:35:18 AM you willl be sick every time you drink usually, but have to keep putting it in, some fluids will get into the system. Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: mex on March 08, 2007, 01:01:32 AM thats dehydration snoops, its not nice, but if the vomitings stopped your on the mend, usually ribs will ache from the vomiting.
No king i'm not a doctor, but from 14 to 18 i became very ill regularly in this way. aged 17 i ended up being ill for 11 weeks and dropping several stone. I ended up in hospital and had to go under the knife, spent another year having tests of a rarther unpleasant nature(for suspected Chrones ). I've had it come back once in 16 years. I had to learn to recognise it and live with it, but thankfully i'm over it now. AND NO COKE, its the cilit bang of soft drinks Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: KingPoker on March 08, 2007, 01:10:57 AM thats dehydration snoops, its not nice, but if the vomitings stopped your on the mend, usually ribs will ache from the vomiting. Have a glass of water with pinch of salt in and sip this. The only way to combat the dehydration is to increase your sodium intake. It will be low at present due to all the vomitting you have been doing. the water can only pass through to your cells via sodium. No sodium, no way for the water to get into your cells. When i'm ill/sick, I eat salted crisps as they are dry and contain sodium. Only thing that works for me but just personal preference. If your still being sick by the morning, phone the gp. You may need medical intervention by then. Will consist of an antiemetic such as a phenathiazine, and either elctrolite drink or an IV line such as Balmans. Try to get plenty of bed rest. Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: snoopy1239 on March 08, 2007, 04:16:25 PM Thanks for the concern.
I got 4 hour sleep last night (although my body couldn't decide whether it was hot or cold) and managed to get down to the shop to buy some Lucazade Sport, which was one of the nicest things I've ever drunk - I was sick of water and my mouth was like an ash tray. However, it was a bit of a trek and took a lot of my energy up, so I'm back in bed, and haven't left it since. The good news is that my stomach seems to be settling down as I haven't been been sick since last night. My body is still energy sapped though, my stomach is cramped and my joints hurt. Bizarrely, I feel like an old man. I don't have an appetite whatsoever and haven't eaten for a couple of days, so am trying to figure out when the best time to strike is. I bought a bunch of bananas, so I may try to get one of those down me in a couple of hours. Thanks again, I posted to make sure that I wasn't making myself worse, and although everyone was saying different things lol, the advice of taking orange squash and not eating worked really well. Cheers. Title: Re: Sick Beagle Post by: Karabiner on March 08, 2007, 04:52:29 PM Get Dana to make you some chicken soup, it never fails.
