Title: Spooky Laptops
Post by: Poppet7 on March 09, 2007, 09:35:04 AM
A couple of nights ago I left my laptop on whilst I went in the bath, when I got out I realised it was switched off, tried turning it on again but it wouldn't go on... when I plugged the battery in the battery charger lit up but the laptop didn't (which it does to indicate that it is charging). I put it down to my wonderful ability to blow laptops up (like I did with my Dads in Oct time).

Anyway, the next day and the exact same thing happened to Mums laptop. They're a different make and age. Mum is getting a new one delivered cos it's still in warranty, mine is too but I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice.

Thanks in advance.

HI Poppet ........... it really isn't a good idea to get in the bath with your lappie  ;whistle;

Only kiddin, I have an Acer which has a mind of it's own, I have had this happen & all I've done is to press the 'on/off' button again, I think it goes in to some kinda 'sleep' mode???

Just a simple idea that may work???

If not.....give this a go  ;technophobe;

Talk about scary....

My little one work up as usual about 7am yesterday, and we grabbed her and she came into our bed for a cuddle.

We always have the monitor on next to our bed incase Lottie wakes in the night.

My missus turned the monitor off in her cot when she brought her in, and after about 5 mins of playing with Lottie, a baby starts crying through the monitor. Now I aint scared of much, but suddenly thoughts of ghost babies etc crept through both of us. My missus went white and it wasn't until the mother of the said baby came into the babies room my missus realised we had picked up someones frequency for their baby monitor.

Quite funny, but pretty freaky at the same time

LOL, I didn't get in the bath with it, I know I love my laptop but not that much! I've tried plugging it in and waiting, but nothing, and then ive tried holding my finger on the on button for a few seconds. Nothing works. My poor baby laptop is dead :(

Poppet have you tried taking the battery out and putting it back in again? My laptop did something like this once and I seem to recall that fixed it.

Also, try seeing if it works with no battery in it - just have it connected to the mains.

Good advice.

What make and model is it? There may be a BIOS reset switch somewhere. Probably need to look at a manual to find it.

If you are always using your laptop at home near a mains socket it will preserve your battery if you leave it out and don't use it. Only problem is a power cut will hurt you like a normal PC.

Three computers fried in six months... seems unlikely.

Maybe there is a problem with the electricity supply to your house.  My computers are all surge-protected.

The one a few months ago was at my Dads house. But it def seems strange that the same thing happened to both mine and Mums lappies, on the same night.

I have a blue serge jacket that is protected by leather elbow patches.
