Title: Champions League Draw
Post by: The Baron on March 09, 2007, 01:44:43 PM
1) Milan Vs Bayern
2) PSV Vs Liverpool
3) Roma Vs Man U
4) Valencia Vs Chelsea

Winners of games 1 and 3 play each other.

Great draw for English clubs. I daresay we will have an all English final.

After the last two season's finals as well are we heading back to a golden era for English clubs in European competition?

I am with Ronald Koeman on this one..the last thing PSV wanted was to draw Liverpool. ManU would have been bad aswell. It'll be very tough for PSV to beat Liverpool over two legs but stranger things have happened.

I agree. Over two legs in the group stage Liverpool were far superior and this is the draw we wanted. However two years ago Liverpool were awful in the group stage and won the tournament.

Anything can happen.

PSV are not a strong team. Arsenal should have beaten them.

Roma are also very weak, got a fluke result against Lyon.

Chelsea's name is on the cup :'(

PSV have always done well in these cup competitions though and if people expect a liverpool walk-over sort of thing they would be wrong. If we have all our players fit we have a very decent, well organised side on the pitch. But Liverpool is of course a better side, if they don't perform on the night though they will get punished.

I reckon ManU has to be favourite for the CL with the way they are playing at the moment...

Bayern are the darkhorses for me. Now that they are scoring goals they look like a well balanced side.

Chelsea cannot defend without Terry - their chances rest on when he is fit again. Valencia are tough to beat at home.

Although I hate to admit it, Man U look like the team to beat. Roma are capable of an upset though....

Good draw in terms of having the away leg first - both in the quarters and the semis if when we get through to play Valencia.

Would of loved to have seen Inter play Chelsea, they have been so ridiculously good this season in Serie A (Pld 26 Won 22 Drawn 4)

Can't really see Roma doing the job but i hope they do.

Maybe becuase the only other good Italian teams were caught cheating and the best players in the league are almost all at Inter!

Precisely!

Talk about a one horse race! Italian domestic football is a joke, similar to English in the late 80's, early 90's

No it's worse.

At least in the 80's and 90's here the leagues were closely run most years.

My point was more aimed at corruption, hooliganism, their performances in Europe (English clubs was non-existent :) )and their prehistoric stadia!

Yeah the league was close in 1989. Remember Micky Thomas' goal in the 93:23 seconds at Anfieild?

I actually cheered that goal ;scarymoment;

With the exception of Juve the league is still the same, yeah Fiorentina Lazio and Milan all lost points but even with them back they would still be nowhere near Inter.

To win 22 from 26 is some performance.

Mainly becuase big players such a Vieira/Zambrotta/Thuram/Cannavaro/Emerson had no where else to go in Italy if they wanted somewhere to challenge for honours. It was Inter or abroad.

Vieira went to Inter, the rest went abroad knowing the league would be pants for the next few years.

Any team that can win 17 games in a row in their league isn't in a strong enough league IMO.

If Juve/Milan were totally unpunished Inter would be third at best.

From '77 to '85 English clubs did ok though!

The only thing that stopped the dominance was the ban on entering.

Yep.

And it has taken 15 years for dominance to return...

I doubt they'd ever ban the English again.

Roma/Milan/Fiorentina were all options for the players to go to. Just because they got docked points doesn't mean they were not good prospects.
