Title: Last reminiscence......Sounds
Post by: tikay on March 12, 2007, 09:55:52 PM
I was having a health check at one of those BUPA clinics, posh job, all the Directors had to have them, I was wearing just a dressing gown. So he says "shall I check your prostate?". Not knowing what one of them was, or where, I said "yeah, OK".

Turn over then, & get on your knees" says he.

"Eh", I'm thinking, but I do as I'm told. Then I hear the sound of rubber gloves being snapped on, & I think, "hang on ....."

He says" this won't hurt".......aaaarrrggghhhhh..."for long".

Happened to me at Basle Airport, too. Ugh.

My Dad's motorbike, when he came home from work. I was only happy when Dad was home, so the motorbike sound meant everything.

I had a Honda Prelude, mid-rev range in 2nd or 3rd, Heaven.

And I used to drive a Mercedes S600, the hum of that engine under load was beautiful.

All of my motorbikes, though that was a while back. Had a Norton Gold Star and a Triumph Thunderbird. The Norton handled like a dream, but the Triumph was a pig to get round corners.

Silence, in the Scottish hills.

I was going with a girl for a goodly few years, & after humpy-pumpy, I'd fall into a sleep, as you do. Or, in my case, did. Anyway, I'd hear this sort of crinkly sound. Eh? Then she'd say "is it Tuesday today"? (It was, say, Sunday). I'd open my eyes, & there she was with her packet of "pills", not taken them for 5 days. WHAT! "Don't worry, she'd say, "I'll take 4 now".

The audience singing at the Last Night of the Proms.

Jet planes taking off, & even better, landing.

A "King" class GWR loco steaming up a bank. (incline).

Steam engines pulling away from Kings Cross with the wheel slipping. Puff........puff.....puff.......puffpuffpuffpiff.....puff..puff.

I gotta go, I think I've lost the plot.

You never wanted to have children?

You never wanted to have children?

Not until quite recently, when it was too late. The relevance being....?

I have all sorts of weird Fatherhood theories, which in this day & age, I'd probably get shot for. Best not go there, I have parenting theories which only someone childless could have!

Silence, in the Scottish hills.

the solitude in the hills isnt exactly quiet but its a different type of noise which is so beautifull from the wind and the folage through to the wildlife
so much easy to sleep too that the noise of the city and car horns and revving engines

Phew I thought i had been really rude or something. It is certainly true that having spent the last 3 years in front of this computer my social skills are probably somewhere beneath those of a sulky teenager but I did think it kinda followed on from your post.

It is also something on my mind atm. we have a three year old and we both back then had like a burning desire to have a kid but neither of us are that enthusiastic about having a second. But I wonder about amber being an only child and if it would be better to have another.

I apologise Byron, it certainly was not intended to sound rude or abrupt, just clumsily worded maybe. And you whooshed me a treat, as so many do these days. Hence reminiscing, back to when my mind actually worked properly. Hard to properly describe the feelng of rapid ageing, but I can see it & feel it & sense it by the day.

I hope you come to the right decision by Amber. Every child is a little miracle, so two must be something else.

Ok Tikay, I'm in the mood to play....

Sounds......

Well, since my last post (you know which one) I've been in a funny mood, and I'm currently listening to some old CDs I haven't heard for years. There's a tune I'm currently listening to which is hidden right at the end of a CD, just with violins and brass. It's beautiful.

Other sounds I remember.... Certain, very deep conversations with perhaps just a handful of people who've been my friends over the years. Those moments with those people will always be special to me. With everyday life getting in the way, you can easily forget about times like that.

The intro from " where the streets have no name " by U2, That reminds me of the first leap forward my career took, it was that intro that calmed me before i walked in for the interview.

That very moment when my wife said "I do", it still makes me smile when i remember that moment.

When my oldest daughter cried for the first time, She was born dark blue in colour and was not responding due to time overlaps with my wifes epidural (sp), the 10 - 15 secs was the most frightening i ever experienced, then the sweet sound of her crying when she filled with life after a doctor gave her an injection to nullify the drugs in her system.

The sound you make when your driver connects with your golf ball just perfectly.

Thne there are some sounds that are just too private to share.

My son talking about me with pride to his friends
Concorde breaking the sound barrier over the English channel
My wife saying "I DO"
Mike Matasou shouting at me when I flopped a house in a cash game
A young women in Ireland saying yes after months of saying no when I was a lad
The sound of cheering from the shore when I finished the Fastnet race in 99.

The sound of 2 turbo charged piston props after takeoff being feathered and synced.

My car starting, and the noise when the turbo kicks in - never get bored with that.

On a slightly different note, the chorus of the cicada is a glorious thing, and reminds me of my time in Japan.

the sound of my children laughing

a Gibson Les Paul (for humbucker) or Fender Strat (for single coil) through a Marshall Valve Amp

the sound of chips clattering just before a tourney starts. like engines revving on a start line

the 'flap flap flap' as poker winnings are counted out at the cash desk of a casino

too many songs and guitar riffs to mention that remind me of particular people of times in my youth.
