Floppy's made the trek down into the basement, but I fear they have been slightly delayed once again.

Whilst we await kick-off, take a look at the shower in our hotel room (the rooms here are tiptop by the way).

Floppy informs me that these monsters are called 'walk-in' showers. I don't really understand that, I mean, how do people get into their showers at home? Abasil in?! Anyhow, it's officially one of the best showers I've been in: powerful nozzle, the water never seeps into the rest of the room, plenty of space - in fact, being one of those rare breeds who likes to sit in showers (does anyone else do this?... please?), I slumped myself in the corner and it was great, very relaxing.

The bathrooms overall here are amazing, they're huge! Bigger than my bedroom at home and possibly even as big as tikay's wardrobe!... almost.

Not too many Irishmen here this week, but I did spot this chap among the rabble... Simon Kelly.

Simon is a buddy of Andy Black and was retelling how Andy couldn't make up his mind about Poland, perhaps due to the lack of TV coverage. But, in true Andy Black style (I understand he's a bit of a livewire), he rang Simon up at the very last minute saying, "Book me a flight, I'm on my way over", so he's very much a spur of the moment type of character.

As for Simon, he's a pretty quiet lad, but a top bloke nonetheless. He's seated next to Pascal Perrault, who he just played a small pot with, the latter taking it down with an A-T on an A-8-Q-K-6 board.

Dusk Till Dawn's Kevin O'Connell is looking slightly disgruntled, and rightly so because his stack has just taken a slight knock.

With three or four players seeing a flop, 'whiskey' (I think we can all guess why he's called that) made a bet of 300 on a Kc Ad Td Flop only for Anders Berg to make a swift call.

The Turn came the 7 of Spades and Kevin bet out again, this time 600, which, once again, was briskly called by the reserved Norwegian.

River = 3d

Kevin made another 600 bet only for Anders to raise it up to 1,500. Clearly not a believer, or perhaps unable to fold a set or whatever Kevin held, Mr Whiskey made the call, but soon mucked his cards with a tut when he spotted Berg's 8d 6d.

Yes, an error on the official list I believe. Not even the board in the cardroom which displays the previous day's chip counts has included you.

You're not exactly hard to miss, you're over 7 foot aren't you??

A pacing Nic Slade caught me during the opening stages, but I don't think it was a good time for me to call him 'Nicholas' (he wasn't happy about that one) as he'd just lost a chunk of chips.

"I got Scandied. Hit two pair with my J-T and bet out 1,800 on the Turn, but he called and hit a 7 on the River to make his open ended straight. I thought he was bluffing it so called his 2.5k."

Henning Bolstad (Huge Crypto-raker and my pick today) and Jani Sointula.

Hang on....we may have to have a Vigo-off against Thomas Fourgeron here. ::)

Thanks, Jeff, but please explain Roy's latest moniker.  ;carlocitrone;

Roy being a plastic paddy with his gorblimey cockney acccent, think it's self explanatory. A german waitress asked if we were english in a restaurant in dortmund last week (like it's not obvious, eight steak and chips and eight pints of lager) and when Roy said he was Irish she aplogised for not recognising the accent! Anyway, wherever he's from, tell him nothing less than 55k by the end of the day.

Here are two cheery chappies in Juha Helppi and Barney Boatman, the former being my pick in the media sweepstake. Good choice do you think?

Also across the table is Jani Sointula, who we've described as Viggo number two, albeit an Albino version.

Jani Sointula -- 10,600
Juha Helppi -- 10,225
Barney Boatman -- 7,875

No decent human being should have a smaller shower than that!

2-3 news now! Not often I report this hand winning a big pot, but it did, this time at the hands of Copenhagen runner upper, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier.

Now I may need tikay's help on this one, if he's lurking somewhere, but the elderly Asian chap on the left (who I can't for the hell of me name even though I know him) made a pre-flop raise from the cut-off, only for ElkY and Ben Grundy to call from the blinds.

K-3-3 Flop and ElkY calls a 400 bet from the initial raiser, Ben Grundy folding in the process.

6 on the Turn and ElkY re-raises his opponents second 400 bet to 1,100, which is subsequently called.

River = 5 (no flushes here) and ElkY bets out 2,350. Asianboy calls, before mucking his cards, slightly bamboozled at witnessing ElkY reveal his slightly paltry (well, pre-flop anyhow) 3c 2c.

That is one Chuc Yoang, well, Chuc Yoang, serial winner in Paris, but also Dublin, & Deauville, where we shared a Final Table as pleasant as I can recall. Very tidy Omaha player too, & one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet, a perfect Gent. He's French I think, though I suspect - just a hunch - that he may have Far Eastern origins......

Age Spets raises and gets one caller, they both check down the Q-6-J-8-K board.

Age says, "You've got me, I've just got a six."

Scandie caller says, "No, you've got me, I've just got a deuce."

Age's Aspades 6s wins the pot.

------

Matt (b4matt) Tyler  on the same table, which was the scandie table of dooooooom yesterday.

------

From the body language, it looks like Thang Duc Nguyen and Nick Slade are both impressed by the size of this guy's shoulders.

This silent but violent chap is Anders Wijk, who you may recall from Copenhagen several weeks back. Anyhow, he's just eliminated Jonny Hewston in dramatic circumstances, catching 'Texas' with his fingers firmly trapped in the cookie jar. On an all heart flop, John had hit top pair with his A-Q, but come the River, the board had dealt out four hearts. Still, this didn't stop John Hewston taking a stab, well, more than a stab really, with him betting out, Anders Wijk minimum raising and 'Texas' moving all-in. Of course, Anders had the Ace of Hearts and oc course he called, leaving Jon to wonder aimlessly around the rail with a slightly perplexed expression on his face.

Came across Nick Slade (he's just got back up to 10k) and Matt Tyler (on around 11k) on my last jaunt down to the cardroom. Matt in particular seem to be in high spirits, so perhaps he should have been my pick rather than Helppi.

I'll make him my second.

Strong showing from the Hendon Mob today, just Ram missing.

And here's the thespian of the group, former Londons Burning star, Ross Boatman, who has just won a pot with a set of twos, his 1,875 River bet on a K-5-2-6-J board being called off by his Polish (I think) opponent.

Elky raises from the cut-off to 300, Ben Grundy re-raises from the button to 1200 with Ahrt Kc. The ex-gamer calls.

Flop:

Kd 6d 4c

Elky check/calls Ben's 1800 chip bet.

Turn:

Qd

Elky checks, Ben checks. Now at this point Ben looks at his cards and realises he doesn't have the Ahrt at all but the Ad!

River:

2d

Elky bets 2k, Ben moves in for 6k. Elky calls and mucks. Ben on around 18k, the Frenchman was down to 6k as I left the table to watch a couple of others, but when I came back a minute later Elky was back over 10k again. He's faster than a Quake Pr0 that one. ::)

Spotted Dave Colclough down on the battlefield (these poker soldiers just can't keep away).

"I thought I'd take a quick look at some of the cash game action," commented El Blondie.

"Don't you want to see the sights?" I inquired.

"Have you been out there," he moaned. "It's like a concrete jungle."

Hmm, I don't think Dave is Warsaw's biggest fan. I still think he's mixing it up with Walsall though.

Iwan Jones -- 13,475
Jonas Molander -- 9,750

Pretty dangerous table this one, and quite a foreboding sight for today's furthest traveller, online qualfier James Honeybone, who has journeyed all the way from New Zealand. After Greg 'crosscourtbh' Howard, he's only the second New Zealander I've ever met!

Marcel Luske -- 11,650
James Honeybone -- 10,625
Luca Pagano -- 9,100
Rolf Woods -- 10,775

Where is old Zealand?

In the Netherlands - believe it or not.

NZ was claimed by the Dutch via a captain called Abel Tasman.
(before the somewhat later to arrive Captain Cook).

I believe "Zeeland" is still a province in the Netherlands...

Wish James well - what is his handle on stars??

A transfixed Peter Roche can't keep his eyes off the deck, and not surprisingly as it's serving him relatively well - not a big stack, but with his head above water at least with 11,175. His last small victory being with Pocket Fives on a Qc 8s 2c Qd Jh board, three players calling his 400 Turn bet before taking it down when everyone amicably checked on the end.

Arshad (Ash, to, well, everyone) Hussain is present, and yoyo-ing already.

"Was down to 4k but got it back up to 8. Lost most of it with two pair, 7-5 on a Q-7-5 Flop. He had A-Q and hit and Ace on the Turn. I think got away pretty cheap though in the end."

The players are just approaching the end of the first break. When they reseat, we'll be on Level 3 with blinds at 75 and 150.

I'll nip down for a quick chip count of some of the recognisable faces when that Level commences.

This is Norwegian whiz Christoffer Ulsa, who I am reliably informed by BA Kildalen (although he did just confuse Ash Hussain for Simon Nowab), that he was January's biggest online winner, taking down a rather mout-watering 1.3 million in virtual spondoolies.

I reached 1.2, so he just pipped me at the post.

This is Martin Vallo. I often spot him hanging around with Marcel Luske, so I'm assuming he's part of the Dutch crew. He's a familiar presence at these EPT's, but I don't think he's ever cracked that final table. He's doing okay at the moment though, remaining steady with 13,200.

Flatcalling with full house news now. (Blinds still 75/150)

Seat 6, (who I think is Cornelis Alblas) limps, Christopher Ulsrud makes up the blind and Roy Brindley checks.

Flop:

Ad Ahrt 6h

Checked round.

Turn:

Kd

Checked to the limper who bets 425, Christopher calls and Roy folds.

River:

3d

Now Christopher bets 1200 and Cornelis calls.

Christopher:

Qd Jd

Cornelis:

Aspades 3s

A bit cautious?

Elsewhere, Matt Tyler claims, "I'm being outplayed by eight players, luckily Tony Cascarino is here."

You may not recognise the face, but you'll certainly be familiar with the name, because PokerGirl is one of the online world's most famous monikers. Back in the day when online poker was exploding, this was one of the first true 'online celebs', chiefly making his waves on Ladbrokes where he and fellow Dane, Erick Sagstrom (sp), emerged from. At the moment, he's on 8,900 after taking, rather fortunately I might add, a pot off Nick Slade. The board read Td-2c-8d-9s, Nick called the 1.5k bet of Mortensen Erlandsen (his real name, of course), but was unlucky to see his Ad-9d pipped at the post by Kc-Jc come the Jack River. "I knew he had nothing," added Nick in that familiarly post-hand reflective Nick like fashion, "I should have re-raised."

Helge Rahbek Pedersen raises and finds two callers in Peter Eicchardt and Espen Uhlen Jorstand.

Flop:

A brutal series of events for this chap, who I believe is England's Terry Cook. No bad beats, but a couple of cold decks to take back home with him.

First off, he ran a set into a bigger set, re-raising homegrown player, Łukasz Mazurek all-in on a 2s Jc 7d 9d board. Lukasz thought about it for a moment, but then realised he couldn't ever lay the hand down in a squillion years.

And with his Jacks holding up against Cook's Pocket Dueces, the latter was down to just 3k.

Moments later, he found Pocket Knaves, but, as was his day according to Mr Sod and his ruddy law, Vicente Julien was sitting pretty with Kings just two seats down, an empahtic King on the Turn sealing the Brit's premature fate.

Ash Hussain (pictured) raises preflop and leads out on a Th 9c 7c board and he is check/called by his only opponent Cornelis Alblas.

The turn is an 8d and Cornelis checks, as does Ash.

The river is the dangerous looking Tc and Cornelis leads out for 1,775, Ash thinks for a while and raises to 5,000. Cornelis calls quickly and Ash flips over 7h 7s. Cornelis mucks his cards in disgust though I saw he had Aspades Jc. Good raise.

On the same table Roy Brindley (Also pictured) raises from the button to 500 and Azad Pirooti pushes his 3.4k stack all-in. Roy calls.

Azad, "You got a good hand Roy?" As he flips over Jd Js.

Roy, "I hoped I was in a race." Showing 8h 8d.

Board:

Qd Jd Ts 2d 4h.

Board:

Seeing the river, his opponent let out a whoop of delight and told the table how he doesn't ever hit any outs.

Not to be confused with the Late Night Poker pro of the same name, the rather more youthful Dave Welch is based in Southend and known by the nickname ‘Charisma’ online which then developed into the ‘Charisma Crew’ as he and a group of friends hit the festival scene on an irregular basis around the UK. Donning the branded clothes of the Crew, Dave is a tight player with a keen understanding of the game. If he is in a pot, opponents are wary! Dave is extremely friendly company at the table. Has a series of final table finishes in smaller festival events but as yet no results in main events. Dave is a major player in the Essex poker scene, running home games, poker tournaments in clubs and developing his presence.

He's currently on 8,975 and smiling away.

Players are just coming back from a 15 minute break. Blinds are now 150/300. Average stack is 11,472 which means we've lost very few players. Certainly, it does seem a lot rockier tonight.

Ash Hussain -- 15k
Katja Thater -- 9k
Ben Grundy -- 23k

Roy Brindley has gone all antsy in his pantsy, not because he's won a big pot, but apprantly due to the fact that "I've just won my biggest ever bet on a horse".

Good to see everyone's fully focused on the poker.

A disgruntled Nick Slade confidentally retells a tale of Ben Grundyiness in which the 30 going on 18 looking high stakes pro was forced to show a paltry K-4, even though Nick Slade and ElkY were in with Queens and Jacks respectively.

Not a bad board for Ben, who along with ElkY had smooth called Nick's pre-flop raise.

A-6-9-K-A, we finally reached a River after two rags, which Ben correctly value betted.

When the blinds go up, the music is that deep voiced 'Ooohhhh....yeah' from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, by Yello I think. A bit different from Baden where they play 'The Entertainer.'

Not too many Wolverhampton players here today, especially with us lacking the company of Surinder Sunar, but I've managed to hunt one down in Chris 'The Rock' Robson.

Now, you don't have to be a genius (or Jenius) to work out how he garnered that name, and this was justified when Dave Colclough, who identified Chris as one of the key Midland players when he was coming into the game 20 years ago (about when Dave was 35 then?), said, "Queens minimum" as Chris re-raised Thomas Holm all-in from the big blind.

Thomas, who was on the button, had made it 2,025 to go, only for Chris to push for 7,475. Thomas folded, but after witnessing him in Copenhagen, he most likely didn't have too much.

Iwan Jones is OUT.

He smooth-called a pre-flop raise with Kings before getting it in on a T-9-5 Flop. Unfortunately, the initial raiser had Pocket Nines.

On the same table, similar steady Eddi, John 'PunkFloyd' Conroy of Bad Beat, is running okay with 10,725.

Guess the Hands now.

Raised pot between Age Spets and Tony Cascarino

7h Qh 7c flop

Age bets 1k and Tony Casacarino calls.

Turn:

9s

Age bets 3.5k, after a dwell Tony calls.

River:

4d

Age puts Tony in for his last 6k or so. Tony eventually calls. Tony ends up being knocked out, but what were the hands?

Btw here is the victorious smiling man.

Also on this table is Matt Tyler and Thomas Grundy, Matt has dribbled down to 4.5k or so, mostly through antes, though he also bluffed off 3.5k with A-K to a set.

As reported by stand-in ringside watchman Karl Mahrenholz, Jonas Molander is OUT.

"He lost to Aces, mucked on the River, and pretty quickly too, so I reckon he missed a draw of some kind (there were to of one suit on the Flop) and attempted a bluff at the end."

Nick Slade lost a 30k pot with 5-5 against K-K on a K-T-5-A board. He's recovered a bit, calling two Elky bluffs with J-9 on a K-2-3-9-x board.

Speaking of Elky, he has doubled through Thomas Nielsen.

Nick raised, Elky and Thomas called.

Flop:

Ks 7s 4c

Nick checked, Elky bet 3.4k (almost half his stack) and Thomas moved in. Nick passed his A-K and Elky called.

Elky:

Aspades Qs

Thomas:

7d 7h

Turn:

Js

River:

2s.

Elky a lot healthier than before.

The jovial Nick Slade is ensuring that his table is the liveliest, whether they want to be or not. Constant chatter, though predominantly friendly, is putting the other players at ease and perhaps making them play a little looser than they normally would. I don't think Ben Grundy requires too much persuasion though. Still, if there's a table to watch, then it's this one.

Title: Re: EPT Warsaw: Day 1B - Interactive

Robin Keston finds himself all-in with a loud European - they couldn't be more contrasting. Whilst Robin remains seated in his seat, his overturned Ace King in front of him, his opponent rises from his seat excitedly anticipating a coinflip situation with his Pocket Knaves. But that excitement leads to devestation when the Flop deals out both a King or a Jack. But wait, any Jack does it, and even a Queen once the Turn brings the Ten. With Robin still meekly praying to the Gods that no miracle occurs, his opponent leans over and shouts something at the cards as if they were able to respond. Whether he was demanding the Queen or the Jack was academic, as the River couldn't have brought any more of a blank with the black deauce ending any hopes the trailer had. An angry bang of the hands, shoulders slumped, the wounded soldier finally accepts his fate.

And Robin? Well, he barely raised an eyebrow.

Table 4 is the place to be at the moment, the general consensus from the players on there is that they are all steaming, including the dealer.

Rolf Woods, raises in early position, Elky calls from the blinds, Ben Grundy moves all-in from the big blind. Rolf dwells and passes.

Ben practically begs Elky to call. "Please call." "I want you to call." "I want a coinflip." And so on...

Eventually Elky calls and shows Jh Jc

"Uh-oh." says Ben, flipping Tc Ts. (Rolf passed Nines incidentally).

Flop:

Kd Jd 9d

Mr Grundy in deep doo-doo.

Turn:

8h

Mr Grundy with 8 outs.

River:

7c

Ben sits back down with 14k now.

Elky, "I guess I'm steaming now."

A small crowd of fans/press gatherered around one table, which is normally a sign that something is going down, so off I run, and, not unurprisingly, we had an all-in, a young man named Sebastian Riviere with his testicles on the line.

The Flop read 9h 7h 9d, and Sebastian was awaiting the decision of his Danish opponent, who was probably settling nerves by saying, "I think I might have to call", especially when the Swede held 9s 8c.

Well, he did call, and he was behind, but by no means dead with Jd Td, and although a crushing 8c hit the Turn, Riviere er... Rivered his opponent with a fourth nine.

This is what I call a 'fun' hand!

And, if my records serve me right, the man in the stocks is Łukasz Wasek, a native from Poland I believe.

This bearded young chap is Marius Turbergsen of Norway with 36,450.

Apparantly, the first three letters of his surname mean 'luck' in Norwegian.

John Conroy is still alive and kicking, last seen raising it up to 1,150 before folding to a 1.5k Turn bet from Jerome Noyon on a board of 4s-4c-Kh-Th.

Currently on 11,150.

Benjamin Kang takes out Thomas Mathisen, the latter pushed with A-K against the lead on the turn of an J-T-4-A board and was called instantly by Kang's K-Q

No Queen on the river for a split. Kang up to 30k.

There's a narrow gap that guides the press and players towards the back set of five tables, but now that gap is filled with spectators, as it probably will be near the latter stages, thereby making it harder to pass through. The reason for this sudden congestion is the moving of tables of the Flying Dutchman, Marcel Luske, who seems to be the major attraction of most of these European comps. Also, on his table is Hendonmobber 'Rocky' Ross Boatman who, along with his short-sleeve shirt, shades and whatever that thing is he seems to be chewing, is as calm and collective as ever and seemingly unmoved by Marcel's presence. The other players at the table, however, are less unmoved, slightly more uptight than they were previously. All this is very strange, because even though he carries with him many low denomination chips to give off the impression of a big stack, this is nigh on impossible with just 3k, therefore making him much less formidable of opponent.

Nick Slade is now OUT.

Opponent raised with A-K, Mateyboy called with A-T, Nick moved all-in with J-J and received two calls.

A-K-Q Flop pretty much finished him off.

Just not Nick's day.

Frederik Hostrup is quite the character. I remember him from the Paris WPT last year. He was whooping and hollering in the media room in support of his Danish friend Grundvig, who went on to win the whole damn kaboodle.

Anyhow, Frederik is here today, and mixing it up (both in terms of the gab and poker) at the table.

His latest confrontation was with a fellow Scandinavian, who I don't know the name of.

With an Ac 3d Ts Ks board, Frederik checked, Scandieboy bet 2k, Frederik maded it 4.4k and Scandieboy re-raised another 11.7k, leaving 2k behind.

After about 30 seconds of thought, Frederik did that 'how much have you got left' whilst simultanously folding gag (hohoho), and conceded the pot.

As Scandieboy revealed a King, Frederik retrieved his mucked cards to show one too.

This guy on the right should've probably bet this Jd 9d 2h flop with his Qd Td (I saw his cards, bit naughty) but he was looking to c/raise all-in, it was checked down all the way though in the end, and he missed and lost the pot.

Blinds are still 300/600 (75), but they're about to go up in just a tick. There are 72 of the initial 148 remaining and the average stack is 20,555.

Juha is the one that keeps noticing. At the moment, all they're doing is changing the decks, but I can detect frustration in the Fin. A fifth time and I'm sure the table will grind to a halt.

Apparantly, 23-year old Orjan (preflop_xx online) studied 'Fireman techics' before coming into poker... I kid you not. When I asked if he is a fireman then, my source replied, no, he's a poker player.  :dontask: All very bizarre.

Anyhow, here's a picture of him from earlier.

Apologies, we've been disconnected for the last ten minutes, so I'm going to use my vodafone card to post the next couple of posts, the first one of which is...

Former Paris WPT finalist, Thomas (I am the Eggman) Wahlroos, is struggling with just 15k and just folded (face-up - I think this was strategy for when he makes his move) A-Qs to Søren Kongsgaard Nielsen's re-raise.

"That was a sick sick sick fold. No other Scandie would fold that," commented Thomas.

Also, Dave Welch is still plugging away. Was down to 5k at one point after having his set outdrawn to a runner runner straight. The third spade on the Turn caused the problems, but also stopped Dave's opponent from re-raising the River.

But, although virtually down to the felt, Dave didn't concede and has doubled through twice, one of which was a 7-7 vs. A-J encounter, 7 on the Flop a very welcome sight indeed.

Now with his shades down, the usually smiley Dave is looking very serious indeed, and he has every right to as he's managed to build his 5k up to a very playable 21,250, not that far away from average.

Was just on my way to undertake the second batch of chipcounts and photos when I was forced into an about turn on the staircase by the passing of two familiar figures. One of them was Thomas Grundy (sry), and the second was Roy Brindley, who confirmed the earlier murmur of his exit by saying, "I knocked myself out, moved in with Ace high but ran into a set, so slightly behind."

Just to explain a few of those big dips in chips...

Firstly, and probably most painfully, Ireland's Simon Kelly lost a 50k pot with Aces against Queens - two Queens hitting the Flop from what I heard.

Secondly, Ross Boatman, in his own words, said, "my bluff got called by Queen high". From what I understand, Ross had an open ended straight draw.

Just 5 minutes left, folk.

The press have been pushed out to the rail for these very latter stages, so it's been very difficult for us to see the hands, especially with the big crowds watching the Lodden cash game.

Hmmm, no internet make Homer mad grrrrr. We've also been denied acess beyond the rail so we couldn't watch anything either. Not a great outcome.

I did spot Thomas Grundy go out with A-Q against K-T, Queen on the flop, King on the river. Ouch.

Anyway sorry for complete lack of stuff going on in the last hour, we've been truly hamstrung I'm afraid...

Hi Dana - I am only still in the bar because I can't get an internet connection in my room.  Plus I can verify that the wireless is dead currently, so I'm on my card too.  Much worse for the updaters, though - commiserations...and congratulations again on an update I am now rocketing through.

I had bourbon for breakfast, odd pizza for lunch (won by playing rock paper scissors) and wholesome fruit and chocolate for dinner (won by playing Chinese poker).  A fully balanced diet, and pleasingly cheap.

Unless anything disasterous happened at the death, he should still be in, but I'll have to wait for the official end of day chip counts to confirm (they barred us from ringside right near the end - it got very bust down there). As soon as I recieve them, I'll put them up, but there's no guarantee when that's going to be I'm afraid.

Therefore, it stick a fork in me time for tonight. We'll see you tomorrow at 2pm (1pm your time!) for Day 2.

Snoops Jen floppy - if you get a chance go to the old market square in Warsaw. There is one which has about 6 restuarants scattered around it. The older parts of Warsaw are much nicer than the concrete sprawl of Warsaw. I normally stay at the Marriott which is one of the highest buildings in Warsaw and you literally can see for 30-50km. There is a casino inside the Marriott too but last time I went it only had 3 card poker.

Will check out who is still left in now ... look forward to the updates later along with the NZ England clash in the cricket.
