Title: OT: Smarties Question
Post by: Phil on September 30, 2005, 01:25:25 PM
Getting a bit heavy on here, so here's a lighter topic (excuse the chocolate pun)...

Am I the only one that didn't know the orange smarties actually have orange flavoured chocolate in them?

did you know that during the height of their fame in the 1980s the band Duran Duran had it written into their "rider" for gigs/tv appearances etc that there should be in their dressing room bowls of orange smarties only

Other bands asked for drugs, girls,Elton John like requests for certain drinks etc

Duran Duran ask for Orange smarties

One saturday morning as a young lad I was in the audience for BBC1's saturday morning kids show, and thousands of kids had sent in tubes of orange smarties only

It was there that I got my first crush on the TV presenter Sarah greene, a lingering thought of which persists to this day

No, she followed Maggie Philbin

That undoubtedly contributed to teenage angst about Sarah, lovely Sarah , because the thought of anyone being able to sleep with Cheggers certainly put off my puberty by a good two years

1) Orange chocolate is rank.

2) Sarah Greene was a Saturday morning saucepot

3) I'm pretty sure the Duran Duran/Smarties thing is a Chinese whispers-style corruption of the Van Halen story about them inserting a clause in their contract stating that there were to be 'no brown M&Ms backstage'. However, this wasn't a band making ludicrous demands for the sake of it, but a way for them to test if the venue had read the contract properly. If David Lee Roth found brown M&Ms backstage, he would make sure to check important things like electrical and sound aspects, because it meant he couldn't trust the venue guys to have set everything up correctly.

Duran's orange smarties may well have been a band hoax, but hundreds of kids certainly fell for it and sent em in, I was there

1) Orange chocolate is rank. Agreed

2) Sarah Greene was a Saturday morning saucepot - Right - so you're younger than me  :(

I'd not heard that - some good logic in it though.

Title: Re: OT: Smarties Question
Post by: TightEnd on September 30, 2005, 02:14:04 PM
I'm ancient.

someone put a picture up of Sarah c 1985

she first caught my attention as a 17 year old (her not me) in the late 1970s adaptation of "The Secret Garden". for BBC Children's TV. Her success there led her to being spotted by the legendary producer of Blue Peter, Biddy Baxter who promptly inserted her into thew Blue Peter line up in the early 1980s alonside Simon Groom (nerdy guy from Derbyshire with labrador) and Peter Duncan (action man actor, later to be controversial home porn movie star)

Her clean cut girl next door looks gave her many admirers

Sadly soon thereafter she met the DJ Mike Smith, who was then working for capital radio, subsequently the breakfast show On Radio 1, the late late breakfast show with Noel Edmonds etc

Her next move was to Saturday morning superstore with Mike Read. Excellent stuff, except for the presence of Mr Read

As we grew up, she did to and moved on to presenting a variety of adult programes. Adult in the sense of grwon up, not naughty. Unfortunately.

Sadlly she had a bad accident about 15 years ago, breaking both legs. Her by now husband was an experienced motor racing driver. She fully recovered

She can now be seen, in ripe middle age, on things like adverts for Ocean Finance etc

A real trooper

Near misses, Cheryl Baker of Bucks Fizz, until she opened her mouth...Anthea Turner, until she was on screen for more than five minutes

Modern day equivalents...Natasha Kaplinsky, Fearne Cotton, Jayne Middlemis, Tess Daly etc etc

Andi Peters definitely loves batty (and not David Batty) but he likes to pot the brown insted of the pink!

One of the customers where I work (bmx mailorder) is Steve Wilson, who used to present live and kicking. I feel like I should ask him, but I'm not sure it's appropriate to ask a customer that.

This is how you should ask him....

You know that batty boy from da BBC andi something, you know the one who fancied you is he gay what is andi peters favourite colour? brown or pink?

Title: Re: OT: Smarties Question
Post by: AndrewT on September 30, 2005, 03:37:07 PM
Natasha Kaplinsky - No
Fearne Cotton - Till her teeth rattled
Jayne Middlemiss - Ten years ago yes, not now though
Tess Daly - No
AdamM - Not even with Andi Peters'

At the risk of this thread degenerating further, my current saucepot de jour is Charlotte Church.

BTW, asking if Andi Peters is gay is a bit like if someone asked a couple of weeks ago 'do you reckon that Kate Moss is on the sniff?'

Title: Re: OT: Smarties Question
Post by: Phil on September 30, 2005, 03:44:28 PM
I was pretty damn certain Andi Peters was that way inclined, but seeing as two people I work with didn't know I doubted myself.

Charlotte Church is so good in all the right way. Gotta love the posh ones.

...and so bad in all the good ways  ;)

All my posts about poker and yet the first time someone seeks my counsel, it's on a totally different subject! Seeing as you asked, Tightend:

Nell McAndrew - No

Kelly Brook - I refer the honourable gentleman to the reply I gave some moments ago re: Fearne Cotton

Kate Lawler - No

Kate Garraway - Oh, go on then

Now, I wonder if Mses Cotton, Brook, Church etc were presented with the following list:

Tightend

NEWSFLASH: Reuters

The world of Blondepoker was thrown into shock this evening as renowned poster RFC lost his life after being drowned in a flood of oestrogen. Eyewitnesses report that RFC's final comments were innocent remarks regarding an anomalous peaking in posts from female Blondites. However, a torrent of femininity soon overwhelmed the poster and he slipped quietly away.

A forum mourns....   :(

We ladies would need specifically placed cards  lol  and you men, well I'm sure you could use chips to cover your bits!!!!!  lmao

BTW, it was kind of a joke, but if we could come up with a CLEAN theme, then I guess it could be an idea, but surely it's too late for this Xmas/New Year now?

I think Ariston means 'Iechyd Da' - Welsh for 'Good Health' (I think). Twas a track on the fantastic Gorky's Zygotic Mynci's Bywd Time album.
Andrew, I got it now tx, iechyd da is indeed welsh for good health, you a gorky's fan then, havin said that all the good bands these days are form Wales   plug plug..........................

Same as the poker players
