Title: blogging Post by: totalise on March 18, 2007, 09:22:16 PM why do people make new posts on blonde to tell us (and spam us) that their blog is updated rather then just pasting the information onto blonde? Do they make money if they get more hits or something? Some dude started two new topics to tell us about his two days at the EPT, and all he included was a link to his blog. Whats that all about?

Title: Re: blogging Post by: Ironside on March 18, 2007, 09:58:33 PM we dont normally allow links to blogs with affliate links on them
i havent seen the blogg of the person in orginal post but the link would be normally removed if there were banners on it Title: Re: blogging Post by: totalise on March 18, 2007, 10:02:26 PM its not specifically one person, but you do see it a lot, "blog is updated if you are interested" and they put a link to their blog in, rather then just pasting the text into the relevant thread on blonde.

Title: Re: blogging Post by: snoopy1239 on March 18, 2007, 10:48:04 PM There may be an innocent explanation in that they want to increase traffic on their blog so people read future entries. If they are gonna spam this site with their blogs, i want to know why they cant just paste the content on here as well as the link. Its intersting. Some people may have only stumbled across some excellent blogs through their links on blonde. great.. dont make numerous posts about a blog entry or two, and if you are going to spam your links, at least put the content up on the website. dont forget about the blond LOYALTY scheme, PM Colchester Kev or The Baron for details! Title: Re: blogging Post by: tikay on March 19, 2007, 03:26:17 AM The issue of Links to Blogs - non-affiliate type blogs - is fine. But when the link is to a blog with Affiliate Links, it's something that is execising the minds of the Mods almost non-stop. Generally, we don't allow, but it's not that simple an issue to resolve fairly, for all manner of complicated reasons. We are on the case though. Bear with us please. Title: Re: blogging Post by: bobby1 on March 19, 2007, 03:54:11 AM On a kinda same issue I find it funny/attention seeking/a bit I am when I find a link and click onto it to find some well, pretty mundane stuff about how they are going to try to win this/goals/ Im finding this game easy lalala or a hand history that just features a bad beat.
The one thing that does make me laugh is a) The updates are always there when they are having a winning time b) the hand histories/biggest pot I have ever won type thread also appear when its going well but when its going bad it takes 4 weeks to get an update and its the c) Poker is sick, having the worst of runs/feel bad, with no real detail to them. Now I suppose some blogs are self improvement tools aswell as life diaries but I don't think poker blogs are meant to be like that. In essence I think most bloggers use their sites to brag about winning when they win/feel like it. There are some really good blogs out there and they stand head and shoulders above the kinda Billy from Halifax plays 1/2 stuff.(ps if Billy from Halifax is real I apologise) Just my 2p worth Title: Re: blogging Post by: Ironside on March 19, 2007, 03:57:35 AM On a kinda same issue I find it funny/attention seeking/a bit I am when I find a link and click onto it to find some well, pretty mundane stuff about how they are going to try to win this/goals/ Im finding this game easy lalala or a hand history that just features a bad beat. You have people here from all walks of life but with the same common interest, that being poker, i believe that it's good that you have everything from low limit to high stakes players able to interact with each other on ALL subjects, and that it all is done with decency, humour and consideration for the community here. As for people pasting links to blogs and other stuff (that is allowed) i personally dont have a problem with it as its the readers choice as to whether they open the link or not. I for one have been very grateful for some of the links, eg download sites etc, and i have read a few blogs that i probably would never have had they not been posted here, some very good. At the end of the day it's down to choice, people are alowed to post their blog links here so they do, it's up to us whether we read them. I tend to open the original post of all threads, then if it is something that does not interest me i dont return to it, i expect others do the same but i certainly dont have a problem with anybody posting anything so long as its acceptable by the site. Just my thoughts. Title: Re: blogging Post by: RichEO on March 19, 2007, 05:34:45 AM ps. Title: Re: blogging Post by: Indestructable on March 19, 2007, 07:39:14 AM I have no problem with an established Blonde advising of an update to a blog which may be of interest, as opposed to someone just joining Blonde to spam a blog.
Title: Re: blogging Post by: SuffolkPunch on March 19, 2007, 12:09:45 PM Oh dear. I think this was my fault posting from Warsaw. When I did so I did start the post by saying I hope the mods did not mind me linking to the blog. It's the only time I've directly linked my blog - and I only posted it up here because I thought the way the day went made for some interesting poker content that was different from the norm. I guess you could copy and paste on here instead, but with pics embedded in the blog post it would probably not come out properly (I may be wrong there but tech stuff is not my bag)
Apologies to anyone offended! Title: Re: blogging Post by: Eyeofsauron on March 19, 2007, 12:52:07 PM I tend to do stuff the other way around these days. In my last few trip reports, I've posted them on forums such as blonde, usually in several parts, as they are still work in progress. I'm not quite sure how my stories are going to end, which is good fun when writing! After I've finished, I then publish a final draft onto my blog. The main reason I do this, is because I then have a more permanent record and they're easy to find as they're all grouped under one web-site. It's a good thing in a sense, as one forum I used to post my stories on doesn't exist any more, so they would have been lost if I didn't keep them on my blog.
I don't have banners or advertising on my blog either, as it just clutters up the screen, and I'd rather remain uncommercial and independent. My stories are for me. I don't get any income from blogging or writing. They act as a diary of special events I've attended, or thoughts I have about a particular matter. I don't always write about every live game I've attended. For instance, I was going to write about the Wales APAT event, but I had such a great time on the Friday before the main event, I decided to write about that instead. I do provide links to other web-sites, if I feel it's relevant to the story I'm writing, otherwise I don't bother. However, it's always heartwarming to receive posts from people who've enjoyed reading my posts, as I spend a great deal of time writing them out.
