------------- Bizarrely, and this is truly odd, Wasim Shaid (sp?) has become the first exit of the day, losing with a set of Eights to a set of Kings. The board reading K-7-8-7-5. Lynne Beaumont (Ace King) checked, Michael McCool (Queens) checked, Neil Channing (Tens) checked, Ian Nelson (??) checked, Bambos (??) checked and Womble (Jacks) bet 1,250. Lynne was the only caller and both players checked the 4c Turn. River = 9c Lynne checked, Womble bet 2,500 and Lynne called to take down a nice pot. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 06:10:39 PM Terry Grimley just won a nice pot off Tariq Arees, the latter re-raising the Irishman's 2k Turn bet on a 5h Ahrt 3s 7d board.
Terry called instantly for all his chips and proudly revealed his 2h 4h for flopped straight and a small flush draw to boot. But although he was ahead, the flush draw was useless as Arees held the Kh Jh for the bigger flush draw. However, none of his outs arrived and Terry was left to take the pot, albeit with a clap of the hands and a slight "Yes" exclaim. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 06:18:25 PM The chap who ran trip eights into the trip kings of Sid Harris earlier on was in fact Frank Romanello, and he's just been faced with another potentially taxing decision courtesy of Richard Redmond.
With a Flop of 9h Qd Jd, Romanello bet 1.5k only to be re-raised by Redmond to 3.6k. Two contrasting postures, an uptight Romanello leans forward over the table, desperately tying to work out if he should put his tournament life on the line. Meanwhile, a relaxed laid-back 'I've been here, got the t'shirt' Redmond offers me a rye smile as we wait what seems like a lifetime for a decision. I wonder around the other tables, return, only to see that nothing has changed. Redmond is looking into the distance, nonchalently fiddling with his i-pod headphones, making no attempt whatsoever to set a poker face. Meanwhile, Romanello is still deep in thought, but that thought finally translates into a good call, although many were surprised it wasn't made quicker, with Ad Qd. Romanello showed Ac Qc, and with a Tc Turn, it was chop chop. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 06:35:23 PM Paul King is OUT.
"I raised it up pre-flop with Tens and hit top set, but it was an all spade board. I bet because I didn't want a flush to hit and Alan Rutter flat called. Turn came a rag, and I doubled my bet to 2,400. Alan raised and I shoved it in, but he had flopped the flush with Aspades 9s and I failed to hit. It's hard to get away from flopped top set though, even on all suited board." ------------------------ Meanwhile... Some heavy pre-flop action which led to Michael Greco folding Queens, but Shaf and Craig Owen saw a Flop of 9h 3h 3s. Craig bet 5k, only for Shaf to move all-in, but the eye-opening thing about this hand is that Craig then mucked his cards, leaving just 2k behind. Shaf showed Aces. What Craig Owen had, I have no idea. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 07:14:49 PM We've just finished typing up the full chip counts - they just need to be sent to me from the hub of all press activity which is Jon Raab's laptop... actually I am going to lean over and give you a couple of counts while-u-wait:
Pete Singleton 8,175 Shaf 20,200 Nick Slade 7,875 Michael Greco 14,350 Craig Metcalfe 21,325 Matt Tyler 3,000 Womble 8,875 Neil Channing 13,025 Those were at the break - lots of action has already been mixing it all up. 20k or so is leader status, still, however. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 07:14:56 PM Dusk Till Dawn update:
Just the two of them here today... Dave Colclough -- 13,925 Michael Greco -- 12,025 -------------- Willie Tann is OUT. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 07:44:14 PM R. Abbassi, with whom I was having a breaktime chat, is on just over 2,000 - and that's after having been all-in and survived. He pushed preflop with what turned out to be Ad 8d - I heard Shaf saying, "I'll gamble" so I turned to watch his table. Shaf gambled with 6c 8c, as it turned out, to none of our collective surprise.
Anyway - Flop: 5s 5h 5c Turn: 9d River: 8h And although the dealer was already gently pushing the chips towards Abbassi, Shaf was there to set everything straight... ------------ Moments later... Ramanzanali Abbassi has doubled up. All the chips going in on a Jd 7c 8d Flop, Abassi flopping the nuts with Th 9c and being paid off by Shaf's Ac Aspades. "I was gambling," he says, perhaps defending a pre-flop call. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 07:50:12 PM These were the full counts from the end of the last break - a lot has altered the top spots since then, I will try to add a note if someone's now a chip monster, or out, but thought they might be good to have even if it took a lot of time to get them and write them up (rules are rules; we weren't allowed to help with the count and Jon has been running around like crazy)

9-7-4 flop, Tony bet 1.4k, Nick called. K Turn, Nick bet 1.9k, Tony called. 6 River, Tony bets 2.4k all-in, Nick calls. Nick's J-9 loses to Tony's 7-6. --------------------- Roland De Wolfe has doubled up, betting Aces pre-flop and receiving two callers, before betting 1.5k on the 8h 6h 2c Flop (1 caller) and then 2.5k on the Ks Turn (1 caller again). Td River and Mateyboy sticks in 4k, to which Roland responds by moving all-in for 4,125. So 125 more for the guy to call, and somehow, he manages to pass. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 08:10:53 PM Perhaps a good idea to add some detail as to how the chip lead's swung round on this thread too - Big threeway all in: AA (winner - Brendan Duffy, new Chip Leader) vs. KK (Dubai) vs. QQ (Rumit). Dubai went from Chip leader to below 8k in 30 seconds, Brendan shot upwards.
Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 08:28:46 PM Blackpool regular (I think), Gareth 'The Nugget' Jones, is OUT.
Flop = 8d 4d 6h 9k pot Saeed Saghtchi had his best poker face on following a 6,425 all-in, which must have worked as Gareth offered his hand and said good luck before pushing in his remaining 5 (approx) thousand chips. Saeed showed Queens, to which Gareth replied, "Nice hand", subsequently revealing his troubled Nines. No help and Gareth was out, although he was a gentleman in defeat. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 08:39:50 PM A quick glance at the room and the collection of a few aprrox chip counts informs me that the following players are up there with the chip leaders:
Lalit Khajuria -- 29,5k And Miles -- 28.5k Sid Harris -- 26.5k Craig Metcalfe (I hope) -- 22.5k Brendan Duffy -- 22.5k Roy Brindley -- 21k Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 08:45:36 PM Triple up for Paul M3Boy Garnham... (this isn't as exciting as it sounds as he only started with 1,875) - tip off from James Atkin who shares their table:
Early position limp from D. Sami, later postion Paul moves in, then another slightly less short stack called. Totally committed, when Sami revealed his hand's true strength with the good old limp-re-raise, it was too late for either stack to get away. On their backs: Sami: Ahrt Aspades M3Boy: Ad Kd Other One: Ac 9c Flop: Qd 4d ("Oh no," says Sami) Jd Turn: Jh River: 9h So Paul can breathe again, while the Aces take the side pot. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 08:50:27 PM Table Brindley had a confrontation between Royce Law and Vicky Coren just now - threeway to the flop of 2s 2d Kh. Royce comes out betting for 1,000, and Vicky raises to 3k. Roy the Boy has a little dwell himself before passing and then it's back to the bettor. He thinks for a decent while before moving in, a further 4,425 back to Vicky. She had only 8,500 left at this time, and a call is over half her stack. Eventually she decides to let it go - I wonder, a genuine decision, or hand in the cookie jar moment?
Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 08:53:59 PM A couple more counts:
Michael Greco 15,000 Shaf 4,600 (still totally unrepentant about his TV table verbal onslaught at the last one; caught neighbour Greco wincing) Richard Redmond 13,800 Neil Channing 12,150 Womble 8,350 Mick McCool 20,400 Liam Flood 7,125 Donna Morris 9,100 Roland De Wolfe 22,500 James Atkin 17,800 And now is the time for the buffet, after what Snoopy describes as the "free-for-all" may have subsided. *****************************75 min dinner break***************************** Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 23, 2007, 10:15:39 PM Mark Goodwin is OUT. 4-6 vs. K-Q

He found an early position raiser, and a mid position caller too. The flop was Queen-high but otherwise uneventful, but a 2k bet into the side pot saw the preflop caller move calmly in for 5k more. A long think, then pass. So Dan only had to beat Aspades Ad with his Th Jh. Plus he's lost his mobile phone; just not his day.

Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 10:50:55 PM Oliver Boyce is OUT -
I saw a flop being dealt between him (on the big blind) and Michael Greco (on the button, preflop raiser; in the middle of featured photo). 3s 3d Qc it came. Check, check. Turn: Kd Oliver bet out 1,100, and Michael min-raised him. A pretty quick re-raise to 4k and before you know it he'd called a re-re-raise all in from the DTD player. Michael Greco: 8d 3c Oliver Boyce: Ks Qh - had successfully caught up enough to Greco's flopped trips to put the whole lot in. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 10:56:00 PM Meanwhile Mickey Wernick doubles from a micro to a mini-stack: 2,000 chips currently.
He's doing better than Rick 'The Claimer' Trigg, who just slowplayed Kings and got a certain Dave Colclough interested in his suited connected low club hand (sorry, can't be specific). Two clubs on a flop and DC check-raised Rick all-in - he went for it but his chance to double disappeared with the appearance of a third board club. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 10:59:17 PM Mickey's newly acquired chip has gone - K-T vs. K-K. It looked like he was heading for a double double when the flop came 9-J-Q, but the Kings flushed by the river and the field is consuming itself much more quickly in this level than we expected from the slow start.

I joined the hand on the River with the board reading 2c Qd Jc Kc Jh and 6k in the pot. Irish terror Terry Grimley checked, Welsh wizard Iwan Jones bet 3k and Terry moved in for a massive 25k, although Iwan only had 10k behind. Clearly perplexed by this, the usually stationary Iwan was rather fidgety, and almost pleaded for a clue of somesort, actually saying "speak to me" at one point. Terry, unusually for him, was suspiciously reserved, head bowed down and keeping himself to himself. Meanwhile, Iwan was still dwelling it up, clearly pained by a tricky decision. After a while he called, only for Terry to swiflty announce full house and reveal his Q-J. A rocked Iwan said nice hand, shook his head in temporary shock and started to get his gear together. Later rumours suggest he had the nut flush, although I actually can't see him calling with anything less than a full house. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 23, 2007, 11:36:11 PM Richard Redmond sees a flop from the big blind with Sid Harris and Shaf. It's Ad Td 9c - I think Richard checked, Sid bet and got them both calling. The interesting part was the turn, however, when the 4s seemed to get everyone excited - Richard check-raised Sid's bet on the turn a hefty 8k or so, and while Shaf got out of the way he got a call from Sid (I think it's quite hard to get rid of Mr. Harris). I am sure the 2d river was a big relief to Richard, who bet 10k quickly, with his 7d 4d.
Sid called without a pause for breath with Aspades 9h, but his two pair was good no longer and he's now contributed generously to the BadBeat player's 45k+ stack. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 24, 2007, 12:07:13 AM A quick glance at Table Parker and it becomes clear that we're missing 2 familiar faces in Rumit and Dubai. A quick (is it ever quick?) chat with Paul Parker informs me that Dubai fell to his next door neighbour in what was an intriguing pot. Dubai raised it up pre-flop, only for his opponent to minimum raise by error when he meant to call. The dealer didn't notice and play continued with Dave asking his neighbour if he did indeed mean to raise. The player confessed that he meant to call and Dubai grabbed the attention of the dealer. One other caller was allowed to take his call back, but the initial minimum raise had to stand. When it got back round to Dubai, he moved all-in with A-J, but was still called by Sevens, the chap possibly thinking Dubai was making a move and pouncing on the confession of not intending to re-raise. Anyhow, the sevens stood up and Dubai was left looking for the exit.
Now sitting in his seat is David Pomroy. They're certainly not tag-teaming though, as Jen suggests. Paul Parker, who is becoming extremely useful these days, also informed me of how Rumit departed. "He was a bit unlucky really. Mrs Bambos stuck in 6k pre-flop and Rumit made a good call with A-Q vs. K-Q. Unfortunately, Mrs Bambos made a flush and knocked him out." For anyone who knows Paul, that was the shorter version, and to prove it, an entire hand played out during that description in which Mrs Bambos was actually eliminated herself, running A-T into A-K, Kuljinder Sidhu placing the blow with a 6-J-3-9-5 Board. Just the two started, but they're both still in, Michael Greco doing particulalry well with around the 35-40k mark. Dave Colclough, meanwhile, is a slightlier less formidable presence, but still a potential threat with 15,200. Opposite Dave is a certain EPT London victor in Vicky Coren, who is a similar menace in this event with 27k. She's knocked two shorter stacks out in the last 15 minutes alone, one of them being John 'Rockstar' Conroy. DC says he's been "mesmerised" while Vicky looks like she's enjoying bully status. And enjoying the Paul Parker approach to tournament play, with glass of wine in hand.

Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 24, 2007, 02:43:12 AM Neil Channing is indeed on the rail, after a spectacularly inconsistent tournament performance. Starting off with a slowish build up to 13k, he found a double through around the dinner break involving a button raise with 4-4, housing and collecting enough chips to "play well for the next level before losing the plot" (I paraphrase to make his quote blonde compliant). So, nosebleed over - knocked to 4k, he was forced to play well again until after working it up to 10k he found QQ vs. his AQ in a situation of no-escape, and now there is only the prospect of several rather alcoholic cash games to keep him entertained.
As ever, his eye seems to be half on the cards and half on the tournament management, dealing and general consistency of the tour in general. He has a phenomenal memory for situations and recounted some odd ones where awkward card-flipping accidents were met with a kind of 'let's vote on it' attitude from the dealer, and some really strange behaviour from players. One example (I have the break in which to recount it): A player with J-J raised preflop, got both blinds calling. The flop came 9-9-6, the small blind checked, big blind bet 600, Mr. Jacks called, the s.b. got out of the way and then for some reason the big blind flipped his cards (to show he wasn't 'bluffing' having somehow missed that he'd been called). He held a 9 and play froze. Instead of calling the floor, there was a bit of a tense moment as Mr. Jacks was kind of queried as to what he would mind happening at this point, at which time, if I understood Channing correctly, he just conceded the pot, instead of getting the other guy's ability to bet revoked for the hand and, more importantly, getting the turn card he'd already paid for. This is just plain odd, and there is a convincing argument that although the dealers are improving, and working extremely hard, too, standardisation of rules and instruction to recourse to floor managers could make the world a better place. And Neil Channing indulge in less would-be-constructive moaning. Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: snoopy1239 on March 24, 2007, 03:08:28 AM Just saw a massive pot go Steve Jelinek's way after an inexplicable call from Steve Craig.
Jelinek raised it up from the button to 2,400 with Queens, Craig made it 6,400 from the big blind, Jelinek pushed all-in for an extra 22,500 and Craig called, shockingly turning over Kh Qh (!!) Board = Ac 5d Jd 4s 9c ... and although he was fully expecting a Ten to hit the River, he dodged that potentially gut-wrenching bullet to see all the chips flie his way, but everyone, especially Jelinek and Mackay (pictured in depsair) were flabbergasted by the call. ----------------- Flop = Td Qd 8s Dave Smith bets 4k, Stephen Slavin moves all-in for around 30k and Dave calls for his remaining 15k saying, "I can't pass". Dave = Aspades Jd Stephen = Ac Kd Turn = Ks River = 3d Dave doubles up and Slavin is left with 14k. With only 9k behind, big blind Vicky thinks for a minute and puts him all in - call.

Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 24, 2007, 03:16:07 AM James Atkin has been playing with unexpected steadiness (and is threatening to make Day Two), but just lost a bit, doubling Steve Craig up in the process. He raised in early-mid position and found Steve pushing in on the cutoff for a further 7,400. He eventually made the call, with his rather dodgy-looking Jh 9h, but Steve had 6c 6s so at least he had two overs...
Flop: Qh Qd 4h (Steve, presumably, draws breath and holds it) Turn: 8s River: Ac So down to 23,600 for James, up to 20k for Steve. James counts out the chips with the face-saving, "Why is it always the worst hand you raise with that gets seen?" Title: Re: Cardiff GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on March 24, 2007, 03:36:03 AM In the final two minutes of the day's play, I spot Dave Colclough with all his chips neatly stacked over the line, patiently waiting for Pete Haslam to make a decision. From the positions of the chips, I deduce that Dave raised preflop, Pete made it another 10k to go on the button, and DC moved in for 27,700. The ebbing seconds of Day1B tick away, and Pete passes, meaning that El Blondie will finish the day with a tidy 42,000 chips.
