Title: Bluffing online Post by: CATHER on March 24, 2007, 10:43:21 PM Is it worth bluffing online?
Ive only really just got the hang of bluffing successfully live, and ive tried applying this online only to get people calling when really a fold is the only move they should be making. i make a habit of making sure i play every hand at the same pace etc cutting down my 'online tells'. ive tried betting making it look like i want a call and ive tried betting making it not worth the odds but still i get callers, where am i going wrong? any suggestions? thanks in advance Title: Re: Bluffing online Post by: Eyeofsauron on March 24, 2007, 11:38:13 PM What levels are you playing at? At small stakes, you're going to get called more for several reasons. Firstly, you may be playing inexperienced players who don't fully understand the strength of a particular hand. Also, the amount of money may not be a major concern, so they'll call anyway. If you're mainly a tournament player like myself, you'll probably find that you'll have a better chance of success if your opponent finds that they could be crippled or busted out of the tournament, if there's a chance you're holding a geniune hand. Bluffing in cash games with a limit structure can be very difficult to pull off. To make life even more difficult, your opponent may not even paying attention that you've not played a hand in 30 minutes and decided to make a move. Perhaps they're multi-tabling, surfing the internet or being distracted from outside influences.
Another reason may be that your bluffs have to appear realistic. When bluffing, you're telling a story. You're trying to portray that you are holding a range of hands which fit the board cards. If your actions simply confuse your opponent, rather than convince him or her, they're left with a simple decision, call or fold. Simply by chance they're going to make the right decision and call some of the time. Title: Re: Bluffing online Post by: madasahatstand on March 24, 2007, 11:43:58 PM Is it worth bluffing online?
