Title: Value bet the river? Post by: TightEnd on March 26, 2007, 12:17:09 PM I wasn't happy with the limp pre-flop or the flat call on the flop really, but thats the way it went.
On the river, are you value betting? Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: kinboshi on March 26, 2007, 12:28:41 PM What sort of marginal hands has he been playing?
When he overplayed the hands earlier, was he check-calling or leading out with the betting? From what you've said, I reckon you're ahead - and you want to be value betting. Of course, he could have QQ or JJ (and his post-flop play would match these hands), but he could have a wide range of hands really (AQ, busted flush draw, QJ) - most of which you beat. That's just my thoughts, and with the way my cash play has been going - I'm probably well off the mark. Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: TightEnd on March 26, 2007, 12:42:21 PM calling people down with middle pair etc, usually leading out then check calling
Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: kinboshi on March 26, 2007, 12:44:04 PM calling people down with middle pair etc, usually leading out then check calling Same as this hand then really? I'd make a decent-size value bet, feel pretty confident about it, right up to the moment he re-raises all-in and turns over QQ... Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: boldie on March 26, 2007, 03:55:15 PM Absolutely. I would stick in 60'ish...he's bound to call that from your description

Post by: byronkincaid on March 26, 2007, 04:22:42 PM I wasn't happy with the limp pre-flop or the flat call on the flop really Why? seems ok to me I would value bet here, you can easily be called by worse hands. I'm guessing you're gonna say he check raised the river. I would prob call a small C/R and then swear loudly when he turns over 67. Depends how much of a donk you think he is I suppose. Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: doubleup on March 26, 2007, 04:27:52 PM The problem with this kind of player is that I would have to call him if raised on the river - so I bet slightly more than half his remaining stack i.e. 60 - hopefully he calls this with mediocre hands at least as often as he has me beat and raises.
Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: TightEnd on March 26, 2007, 04:30:51 PM Just got to go out, which means I don't have the time to write the authoritative prose so beloved of Byron and my fellow crap players!
I bet $44, he check raised me all in for another $70 or so so Byron got that right I feared QQ but was committed to it given a potential $400 pot and called...he flipped J6 off for the house. Ugh! donk is right, but he got me this time Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: The Baron on March 26, 2007, 04:38:17 PM I'm value betting Vs this type of player here all day.
Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: Smart Money on March 26, 2007, 09:23:57 PM There is no way you can put someone limping UTG+1 on J6 here. Likewise, you can rule out any other hand that you are behind to (QQ, JJ) because these would (should) have been raised with from his position especially after UTG limps.
Many very poor players love to slow-play as soon as they hit a big hand. He got lucky that you hit trips but his turn check is terrible- with 7 people seeing a flop, it is quite likely that someone is drawing to a flush here, and your call behind him should tell him that. Therefore he should be betting out on the turn an amount that a flush drawer is happy to call. His poor play makes it hard for you to know what he's holding. However, the one factor that would determine whether I value bet here is the stack sizes. If both players were deep (100BB+) then I'd just check behind because if he check/raises you with a deep stack you have an unwelcome decision to make. As he's short stacked (<50BB) then I would value bet here and call any all-in of course. Sometimes you have to take one for the table and pass your money to the table idiot. (Very good question by the way.) Title: Re: Value bet the river? Post by: AlexMartin on March 28, 2007, 06:49:14 AM Nothing wrong with your line here, i value bet your hand too. AQ and AA/KK pay you off more times than J6 gets lucky.
