Title: GUKPT Qualification Starts Here (I hope)
Post by: jjandellis on March 28, 2007, 11:55:34 PM
I have read the updates on the previous couple of GUKPT events and was interested. I then resolved to try and qualify, but didn't actually get around to it.

Well I read the Cardiff updates and the whole setup/prize structure sounds absolutely fantastic. It think, with airtime, by Season 2 this will really capture the publics imagination. Its probably a very good thing that Beppe has won Cardiff. He's someone that Joe Public can identify with from the telly.

Anyway, I digress. So I felt inspired tonight. I registered on Blue Square and phoned my local casino to make sure I'm down with the live qualification dates.

Entered my first satellite...and had the good fortune to qualify into the Fridays Super Sat.

I must say I have been quite impressed by the game speed and set up on Blue Square. Jeez I'm waxing lyrical now aren't I????

But what did strike me is this: Is it me or is the players standard on Blue Square alot lower than on Pokerstars???? Although I have a few accounts dotted around I have pretty much been playing exclusively on PStars for the last 6 months.

It just seemed alot easier winning that first leg (granted there were only 23 playing for 3 seats). The cash tables seem alot easier too??? Or is this me just having my lucky 'First day on a new site'???? (I seem to remember a few extra profitable days on my first day on new sites..)

Also - Do many people turn up to the live super satellites in the Grosvenors?????

The "Grosvenor Fessie" or "GUKPT" Online Satellites are famously easy, I have no idea why.

I have not played a Grosvenor Fessie for some time, or a GUKPT Live satellite ever, so can't help there.

Get in Son!

I just managed to qualify on the Wed night Satellite. Approx 65 runners only 4 seats - but paid down to 23rd $109 so those not making top 4 got initial buy in back.

Trick is to get to the last table and then play it like a sit and go - helps if you get AA 3 times on the FT.

See you in Manchester

Greg

Hi Flushy - If you multiple qualify do they give you cash or just another seat for a future event?
Also the payout was $2750.00 so i presume they chuck in free hotel or something?? As £1050
is not as much as $2750.00

On behalf of Flushy - he goes all shy sometimes. Like when he's asleep....

Yes, the $2,750 includes "expenses". They pay for your Seat, & the balance of the $2,750 is paid into your Account.

You can win as many of these as you wish, just write a PM to "Jamier-Host" or Jonathan Raab ("Alright Jack") & you can "stack them up", or swap Venues if you ask nicely. I am not aware if there is the facility to cash in the entire $2,750, I've never tried.

There are loads of daily $10 feeders to the rebuy supersats on Wednesdays and Fridays ($109 buyin).

I believe the Sunday supersat is a freezeout with 2 packages guaranteed as opposed to the 4 seats in the rebuys.

I was on your table for almost the entire tourney playing as Nogoodnik, and you finally eliminated me in eighth place with your cunningly played AA. You were a big CL at that point, good luck in Manchester.

Not only do you have to play well you need to hope the servers stay up long enough for the satellite to finish ;)

I remember that hand I think you connected with a J on board for top pair and had an A Kicker. Blimey all these other blondietes with alter egos - i did have a different  name on BSQ but changed it to match my usual moniker. GL hope to see you at Manchester.

I was gonna try and qualify, but the tournie structure is so top heavy and with such a large field I dont think I can justify playing a £1,000 event just yet even if I only qualified for a smaller amount. The field is very strong also - and the running ante's would certainly mean I wasnt playing at 100%!

I'm such a party pooper

I agree that the field is strong but if you qualify for a smaller amount I think you'd be crazy not to play just to get the experience. IMHO the structure is good and allows you to play a lot of poker - you can either pot steal or push in 70/30 situations in the first 3-4 levels and then its down to what hands you get and how you play them. The antes are the same for everyone the critical time is level 7 onwards if you havent creeped up above the average chip stack. Go for it Rich you may surprise yourself.

Are you mad Greg!!

They have to be some of the softest fields i have ever seen. 60 good players and 300 mateyboys.

I was Karabiner on BSq, but when they switched networks would not let me keep the name ???

Flushy - most of the people playing are no mugs. Granted there are 60 strong players but for someone who has never played a £1k buy in comp before then it is likely they would find it tougher than same size field in a Mansion $100 event for example. An EPT or WPT event would be way tougher but it is a tough field relative to what our fellow blondiete poster would be normally used to playing in. ( I presume). In 3 events we have only had 2 or 3 really high profile players make the FT which says something about the strength of the GUKPT field.

Hardly an enormous sample...

Well the 'toughest' buy-in i've ever played was £300 at the rendevous xmas cracker and actually that was fairly soft.. had Richard Gryko get lucky on me with 20 to go :(

How does GUKPT events compare to festivals? I'm considering selling 0.5% shares to my nan's fellow old people's home residents ;)

Bolton was a joke, with the exception of 1 hard table i found myself on it was soft as hell. My first day table would have been weak for a £10 rebuy. Even our table at the start of Day 3 was pretty decent!

Walsall was the same, 2 people knew what they were doing the rest had no clue. Even on day 2 my table was soft (with the exception of a couple of players)

Well the 'toughest' buy-in i've ever played was £300 at the rendevous xmas cracker and actually that was fairly soft.. had Richard Gryko get lucky on me with 20 to go :(

Was i on your table then? I was sat next to Richard towards the end of the day.

The standard in that and a GPT event are fairly similar.
