Title: The Coral-Gutshot Main Event, Day One
Post by: tikay on April 09, 2005, 03:52:05 PM
blonde will be doing Live Updates of this tournament, providing the technology holds up.

The comp is scheduled to start at 8.00pm, though it's gonna be well busy, so maybe it will be a few minutes late starting.

Rhow is here, & I will be playing the comp, Dave too, but once I exit, I will assist Rhow or take over, as I know Rhow has a busy schedule of interviews to do for Poker 425.

We will be doing a feature on Gutshot on our News Page, but for those who don't know The Gutshot Club, it is going to be quite hard work updating during the early stages of the comp, so bear with us. The cardrooms are on 2 floors, downstairs is the no-smoking area, upstairs is smoker's paradise.

They break tables from downstairs first, so the action will eventually be on one floor, making our job a bit easier.

But The Gutshot is not large by the standards of what we are used to, so it's gonna be a bit cramped initially, until the field thins out.

If you have a player you want to follow, let us know, & we will keep an eye on him/her for you.

Who's playing? We will give you the names of those we recognize later. But I do know that William Hill have Julian Thew here, & Dave Colclough is on duty.

Walsall Main Event third Stuart Fox will be here, & The Vic Main Event 4th, Nik Whiten, too.

Joe Grech is playing, and I heard from Mark Patrick, Eurobet's Poker Manager, that Mike Magee will be here too. Mike has been unwell lately, so it will be good to welcome the popular Mike back.

OK, more runners & riders later, also the structure etc.

Join us later & follow the action.

Just a reminder, that the start is scheduled for 8pm - see you then!

Title: Re: Soft Play
Post by: Irishdenis on April 09, 2005, 05:26:30 PM
Just to confirm I witnessed the terrible soft play between Julian and Tikay last night. After a pre flop raise from our hero "Tikay" with 10 2 he was called by Julian. The flop comes something like J 8 2. Our hero is then faced with a bet from Julian which he calls. The turn gives no help but he bets large and is called by Tikay with his monster pair. The river comes another two. Julian bets out large again and our hero being the gent we all know him to be just calls with what must be the nuts. Julian then gives his "I'm sorry" face to Tikay and shows the 2. Tikay says nothing until he then sees the kicker. At this stage he shows his cards and proceeds to question the pre flop call from Julian. He then questions the direction the sun sets in and if Santa really exists before finally smoking himself silly. It has to be said that he takes his beats with good grace. This turnaround in fortunes happened in the space of 20 minutes. Julian went from a small stack to verrrrrrry large while Tikay returned to his normal position. Sorry

Irish Denis & S Woods.

The matter has been passed to my solicitor, who majors in libel, & you will be hearing from him in due course.

I may, if time permits, give the true facts a little later this evening, but I am too busy to be bothered with cretins right now.

But i would remind you that suggesting I would R in early position with 10-2 off is severely damaging to my reputation as a rock.

And anyway, how could the boy Thewy call my pre-flop R, he only had Q-2? How COULD he?

I guess you can't bluff an idiot.

And another thing.

Supposing word of this affair reaches the ears of the Blackpool Boys? I was intended to be Nott's Secret Weapon. Now the cat's out of the bag that I'm as loose as a goose.

I am very cross about all this.

How COULD he call my R with that bag of spanners?

Suited? Nope. I would have slow played it if it was. Obviously.

More to the point, Thewy's hand was NOT suited. The man's a maniac.

7-2 I could understand, that hand has magical powers (cracked A-A with it earlier today). But Q-2? Garbage  :D

El Blondie made an early exit, again. Becoming a bit of a habit this..
Opponent with pocket J's he raised 500 pre-flop and Blondie with pocket Kingss re-raised 1500.
Flop comes 952 and Blondie bets 2500. His op with J's calls.
Turn comes a Jack!
But Blondie went all in for his last 5000, obviously his op' couldn't get his chips in fast enough and won the pot.

Goodluck tikay and yoyo. just checking in before an early night and am surprised to see that you have changed your pic to one of mcgiver blondie. ;D 2k for tikay looks like another long fight followed by a bubble then. As for the 10 2 play earlier it has gone down in my book and you had better not try that slow playing monster hands in blackpool I tell you, we will be waiting for you.

Title: Re: The Coral-Gutshot Main Event, Day One
Post by: elblondie on April 10, 2005, 01:13:11 AM

This is still tikay masquerading as a proper poker player.

"Is Jac Arama behaving?", was Colchester Kev's question....

Imagine ths one tonight. Jac limps with a raggy A, & BB takes the flop. An A falls, BB is middle-pinning, so bets 500, Jac calls. Turn blank, BB bets another 500, Jac calls. River is an A, BB  has missed but bluffs 1,000, Jac calls. "On their backs" says the dealer.

BB immediately turns over his heap of rubbish, J-3 or whatever, he has nothing. Jac, cards still in hand, but still not turned over, says "what's he got?". "Turn your hand over Jac" says the dealer. Jac repeats "what has he got?". He has J-3 Jac, now will you PLEASE turn your hand over Jac". He triumnphantly slow rolls his trip Aces.

I say to him after, "whats that all about Jac, you are OBLIGED to show your hand, why the slow roll. He says "I cold not se what he had".

Err, what exactly has that got to do with it Jac?..........

Like I said last week, a lovely guy off the table, a seriously inventive poker player. But oh, his table behaviour.......

Title: Re: The Coral-Gutshot Main Event, Day One

That's a bit strong Kashman, but strangely, when he and I discussed his antics tonight, it WAS all "I" & "me", he does not seem to be able to recognise that here are two parties in these matters.....

And I guess that's the root of his problem......

My impression of Gutshot?

I like the place. Lovely atmo. Nice peeps. They need to be careful they are not victim's of their own success.

The Gutshot Club is quite small, & the demand is huge, so eventually, they will need bigger premises, or more premises.

Derek & Barry are like Mother Hens, running round fussing over everyone & everything, though you do NOT wanna cross these guys, they bite!

If I lived local, I would be in Gutshot every night.

I played cash here last night - real good craic, fantastic.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

Koresh is OUT in a monster pot.

He had 5-5, his opponent had 6-4. A 6 flopped, a Q came on the turn, & Koresh moved in for about 25k. His oppo, holding the 6, called.

And guess who was holding 6-4?

Who plays those sort of hands, eh?

Yes, Ironside, we will be here tomorrow. Sleep well, fella.

Correct Ironside and Kev.

Thewy raised with 6-4 (obviously), Koresh called with 5-5, flop was 7-6-2. A Q turned, Koresh moved in, there was a flush draw & Thewy hoped Koresh was drawing & called.

I will get Thewy's chip count at the break in 2 minutes, but he must have 70 to 80k I guess.

Thewy's play - these are the plays he can make, & very few - certainly not me - can. His whole tourney on the line with 6-4, on a board of 7-6-2-Q, his oppo moves in for 25k, & Thewy calls. Amazing play, simply awesome. Way beyond my ability, & I suspect most players. What a player.

Added money Kashman? Maybe, but not that I am aware of - I just don't know is the answer in truth.

Change of plan just been agreed. They have decided to forego the break, & play on until they lose 2 more players, then draw stumps.

We will get the Overnight chip Counts, all being well.

Added money.

I just spoke to Mark Patrick, the Coral Poker Manager.

There is no added money in the conventional sense, but Coral will be awarding $100 or so to all the players who Final.

In case we forget tomorrow, a word of thanks to the Gutshot Management. Both blondepoker & Poker 425 have made a nuisance of themselves, but Derek & Barry have been marvellous, & have been amazingly helpful.

We shall be continuing the Live Updates on Sunday, & Poker 425 will be filming the Final, & you will be able to see edited highlights on next weeks show.

A big up to the Gutshot folks.

Going back to added money, I just heard that Coral also presented the winner of each event this week with an 18 carat gold ring, with a diamond inset.

The game has tighten up incredibly now, & we have not lost a player for best part of 35 minutes.

Ewan Jones is OUT, in a shocker....

He had QJ hearts, the UTG man had moved in with 8-4, a 4 and a Q flopped, but another 4 rivered. Oucharoonee, you have to feel for Ewan.

Yes It is true, when one of the partners of the welshig internet co was with me on tha main table during the final of the main event (500 nlhe).
He was questioned meny times on what had happened to the sponcership money.
he blamed everybody but himself, on its non appearance, said it would be divvied up when the winner was deceided. then claimed he had been let down by his partner.
But as he slithered and smarmed, it became clear that no money would be forthcoming.....

Brighton sponsorship money - wow, that is AMAZING.

But I still can't quite grasp how such a thing could be allowed to happen, unlesss there is more to it than meets the eye.

I mean, if a sponsor promised xk at The Vic & did not come up with the money, he'd not get out the door, he would have his head ripped off. And you are saying guys sat & played with the sponsor chappie & it was all very civilised & "I'll get back to you", "okey dokey" sort of thing?

Perhaps someone from the sponsor's side would like to comment?

Jeez, there are so many stories in poker, I ought to try & start writing about some of 'em for a living......

Yep Tikey, thar's how it happened.
One of the partners of the internet company involved, was transferred to table one about half way through Sat eve.
Unfortunatly there was on the table a young player, on his first live tourny, who had built his stack up to 25k in the first couple of hours.
Then had unloaded them in about 40 mins.
So as you can see, most people on the table were occupied in getting their share.

Ahh, "I want some of them before everyone else gets them". That makes sense. When Koresh arrived at Thewy's table on Saturday night, he had a mountain of chips, but was blowing them off in all directions. So when Thewy made his awesome play against Koresh with 6-4, I said to Thewy "wow, great play fella". He said "not really, I was just getting concerned that Koresh would bluff all his chips away & I would not get my share, so I decided to help myself"......

But getting back to Brighton, & what you describe as the sponsor who "welched" on his obligations.

I simply cant understand why it is that this matter has not cropped up in the various Forums. I mean, we poker players dont need much excuse to moan, but I never heard a squeak about it.
