Title: Photo resize help
Post by: Dingdell on April 03, 2007, 11:30:43 AM
Having rung the un-help line at hp I suddenly realised I had all the resources I needed at my fingertips here at Blonde.  ;tightend;

I have photos i want to add to my new website nd I want to make them smaller - not crop them - but actually make them smaller so they load quicker and are smaller on my web page.

I hope that makes sense. Why is that so hard for the help line to undertsand?

Anyone know how I do that - i am actually tearing my hair out.

Thanks

Tracey x

you need to decrease the dpi

if you have office open the pics in publisher then click on save file as and select the option to use 96 dpi

all photo software should do this

You need some photo editing software where you can save the files as .jpg or .gif and choose the level of optimisation. This makes the file smaller in size and quicker to load, with hardly any degredation.

Photoshop is the best, however the most expensive. Have you got any software of this sort?

If it's just a few photos you need changing, email them to me and let me what sizes you need and i will do it for you.

you could try emailing the picture to yourself.

If you select the picture you want on your computer by clicking on the start key and choosing my pictures (or whereever it is stored on your PC) then highlighting the picture down the left hand side of the screen there should be various options under the headings "Picture Tasks", "File and Folder Tasks" and "Other Places". One of the options under "File and Folder Tasks" is "Email this file".

When you choose this option it will ask you do you want to make the file smaller so that it is easier to send by email so select "make all my pictures smaller" then send the email to yourself.

When you receive the email in your inbox all the pictures should be attached but they will be a lot smaller than they were originally and should be easy to load onto other things.

(This is what i do here in the jungle - chances are there is a better and quicker way but we aint too hot with technology!) :D

The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) is a full featured and free image editor, it will do all you need - should be able to automate it if you have many pics to edit too...
