Hello UK - I am finally set in the luxurious press area of the Casino here in Baden, about to go and see what I've missed this morning.  So, one flight, two trains and a tram later, I've made it (somehow) from Wien to Baden and that's all that matters.

I could start this live update with a moan about delayed flights and delayed trains (the latter responsible for Tikay not being here quite yet) but instead I'll just say that it's about as glamorous as can be over here, and there's decent internet access, which is enough to be getting on with...

Please bear with me as I scout out the players and catch up from ever-helpful Rolf Slotboom, who had me a corner of a table all set and ready this afternoon.  Bless.

Sure, spacefrog - I will find as many as I can.  The actual tournament area is on a different floor to us Press, so there may be intermittent silence as I go and get chip counts etc. at least until the rest of Team Blonde arrive.

How many entrents are there?

No problem... All I know for now is that with the blinds at 150 - 300 (starting stack 10,000 with a very reasonable structure), among the early exits were numbered Isabelle Mercier and Greg Raymer, and the early stack-doublers included Marcel Luske and Roland de Wolfe.  Going to hunt for El Blondie et al now.

Entrants were 175 or thereabouts, Frantic.

When possible djinn could you get a chip count on david barrie ( bazzaboy) if you can find him. thank you

French player news - only found Paul Testud so far, who had 9,400 after the first hour or so.  Other than that Rolf assures me that there's a pretty low French turnout - or they all went out before I got here ;)

Testing out my new camera, I tested on Rolf Slotboom.  Here he is, the standard by which all updaters are measured... He is a bit blurry here but I am just testing to see if I have managed to shrink the file to a size which can be posted.  It takes me a while to work out my new technologies.

There is a notable lack of Dave Colclough here - I will endeavour to track him down and find out what happened.  Likewise Jonas Helness.  The main ballroom-type tournament area has oh-so-quietly filled with cash games, which might be a place to start. 

Since the field has so quickly reduced itself, there's been a slight change of plan.  Instead of playing down to 80 tonight (there are now 83) it will go to level 11 (we're on level eight), which is being estimated at 2am.  So I'll get a chance to redeem myself for the quiet start... Oh and Tony has landed and will be here any minute.  It's all clicking into place..

The blinds are currently at 400 - 800, and to give you some idea of how well your friends are doing, the average chips are 22,500.

Just because I've been wandering round for the last couple of hours without bumping into him doesn't mean El Blondie is out.  In fact, he has 20,000-odd and has been moved to Julian's table.  Picture coming to prove he's really there.

Tight scottish git who only plays  asp  ah

the American:  Noah just took a big hit after a dealer error - the flop was dealt without the big blind being given the option to raise.  Noah was in the small blind (with QQ, as it happens) and had just limped like one other person.  When the cards were being taken back to be reshuffled, big blind man decided to push all-in with King high, and was called by Noah.  They didn't stand up, however and he's dropped below average chips.  Pics coming next round...

Any chance of a nice as-panoramic-as-you-can-make-it pic of the poker area? Having never been to any of these big fancy foreign casinos, I'd like to get an idea of the mise-en-scène of these places as it helps paint a picture for your updates.

But Red, surely he's bypassed the train-tram combination which worked so well for me in favour of the direct cab route?  If it breaks down he can just call another one on his cellphone.  He'll be alright.

Julian raised on the button with  ah jc, the big blind re-raised all-in, Julian had to call and was up against  ad ts!  So Yo-Yo has 36,600 to work with now.

Roland just doubled up too, but he's been fluctuating a bit so there's no telling how many he'll have when I get back up there.

So more action coming, as soon as he's got himself a press pass, and acclimatised to the luxurious surroundings of the Casino.  It really is nice in here.  I'll get some more photos.

Jenn that picture isnt of bazza from scotland- its buzzer from germany lol. Easy mistake to make I suppose and they both play for betfair. Both are also from countries we haven't always got on with as well.

Ah. Any word with b - z - z in it sounds a little like another similar word.  Apologies.  It's a bit dark in here (excuse, excuse).  Well, to make it all better, here's some accurate news:

Ben Grundy - OUT (Having sat on a short stack for ages nicking the blinds (600 - 1,200 with a 100 ante right now) he made another double-up shot move with A10 from the button.  The cutoff raiser had JJ, so that didn't work.

The success story from Ben's table is undoubtedly chip leader Daniel Larsson, who has over 105,000 and has been getting hands and eliminating the little stacks ferociously.

Yes it's all quiet and well-behaved on blonde, similarly in Baden.  There's something about sumptuous surroundings which seem to quieten the players a tad.  Not that their play is that quiet - poor old Sverre Sundbo is now following his compatriots having been knocked out very early.  He built up his chips to 16k within the first two blind levels, only to find his set of Aces cracked by a flush which drew out on him (he passed on the spade-y river).   Then, in his own words, "I worked my way up with intense grace" only to find pocked Jacks and a "crazy psycho" against him on a  2d 3c 4h flop.  Sure enough, they got it all in and Psycho turned over  kd 4s, only to spike the King and send nice Sverre to the rail. 

btw, that was not what I meant there Ironside, and you know it... :-*

Roland de Wolfe has been busy pretty much nonstop.  Most recent Roland news: He bluffed Paul Testud off his pocket  kh ks on the river with  8h 4h which, need I say it, was not ahead.  He's had ups and downs but hasn't gone out yet and looks to be on an 'up.'

Could Roland be on his way to add EPT champ to his CV to join the WPT title? I heard him addressed as champion of the Wycombe Poker Tournament at the poker million party, glad he had a sense of humour

Tikay, fresh from Roland's side, puts him on about 50,000, although he's not 'update friendly' i.e. doesn't stack his chips in nice countable piles.  Likes to spread out a bit.

Also, just saw a short stack double up with  ad qc vs Kjersti Grini's  qh 6s.  The position of the players (Kjersti on cutoff, other guy on button) leads me to wonder whether her 80kish stack might have been the product of getting away with a good bit of uncalled aggression.  One for the ladies.

Robert Cooper went out in a three-way coup taking his AJ against the 10 10 re-raiser and the AK extra caller.  "Fed up of people re-raising preflop" and a run of AQ type non-hitters.  That's just how it goes sometimes...  They really seem to be in 'double up or go out' mode now, with the short stacks taking chances to be able to come back tomorrow with a few  more chips.  49 players left.

you are really doing a great job :-) Can you give an update on some of the danes involved? Saw that daniel Smiths was in one of your earlier ones ...

I think Daniel is out, Powerdane... I don't know if Mr. Grundtvig is Danish, but he's probably second in chips with 120,000.  There are a lot of Swedish, Norwegian and Danish players, or were at the start of the day.  The field has positively imploded...

Roland just lost the vast majority of his chips raising all-in for 70,000 or thereabouts on the cutoff with  ah kd, only to find the button with  asp ac!

The board came  td 4h 2h 6s 7c, taking the aggressive Mr. de Wolfe down to just a couple of thousand...

And I'd just taken this picture of him next to El Blondie when the huge hand mentioned above took place.

Wow - thats great service :-) Grundtvig must be danish! You cannot imagine the boom poker is experiencing in denmark - ist crazy!!! This sunday we had the danish championships an Gus Hansen finished in 4! Quite good considering that everyone else were going after him :-)

Noah Boeken Gets Out Of Jail News now...

Having just received a straight on board which saved his AK from being destroyed by KK, Noah was all-in again (my informants tell me against the same poor guy) with  ac 6s all-in preflop against, yes,  kc kh.

The board came, in order,  js 8h 5s qc.... ad to take him to 50,000.  An already dangerous player looking a little more chipped up. 

Do you think Gus is one of the reasons so many Danes are going poker crazy?  Do you all play like him??

A part of the reason for sure - a tv-station started sending from the wpt 1 season where gus was extremely strong, so that has played a great role! Now we get all of these different show all over tv - its really crazy! I have been living some time in Germany and the poker "wawe" is not nearly as great there!

And no - I dont think we all play like Gus :-)

Do you know the story of Kjersti Grini? She was one of the worlds greatest Handball Players and has been a coach in denmark for a coupple of years!

By diminished, I mean there are 38 players left.

The blinds are currently 800 - 1600 with a 150 ante.  A little dissatisfaction expressed by Henry Nowakowski over how quick it's all gone, but given that this is a Problem Universally Applied to the EPT, this tournament actually has a much better structure than Barcelona, at least...

Yeah I heard that about Kjersti!  Extraordinary... well she certainly is a competitive person, and judging from her performance at the Vic and now out here, she has changed field to another she has natural skill in.

40 minutes left of level 10, at which point I believe the new plan is to stop for the night.  There are going to be about a third of the players they originally intended to end today with when we come back tomorrow morning (yes, morning!)

Was this tournament horribly structured, or did they expect a lot more runners?

Seems unusual to get the estimate so far off.

Overall the tournament was superb. They kept bringing around these tasters of food, slamon, fiillet steak... whatever you wanted really. Plus any free drinks you can imagine.

Compared to the Vic and Barcelona this tournament got a 9/10.... if they could alll get to this standard it would be great.

Structure was good. They even played level 9 twice (for two hours)

The scandies are here in force. At one point with just 5 tables left i was on a table with 7 other scandies...... they are taking over!
