Title: Grand National
Post by: redimp on April 05, 2007, 12:41:28 AM
We love this race at our house

Pete - Knows more about racing than most
Shelly - Picks horses by the rider
Jayde - always picks the favorite
Jazz - A pretty girly name or if the jokey is wearing a nice colour (usually pink lol)

And yes jazz is miles in front of all of us!!

So what you all backing this year

Joes edge for me.If he can run up to his cheltenham form must have a great chance. He ran well last year for a long way,and he had'nt been in any kind of form.Ferdy murphy's stable is in great form so its joes edge for me.

haven't picked one yet...if Laddies do the same as last year (Irish 123@25-1 )I'll probably go with that..though last year clan royal did me on the line for that...blah

I see Joes edge has had alot of money on it!

Longshanks is trained by kim bailey who was Mr Frisks trainer maybe worth a bet.

Tempted by L'Ami and because I've backed it twice and it should have won the first time, Clan Royal.

May have another one too, undecided as yet.

have to back joes edge, sons called joe.i think he hes got a massive chance anyway.this is a wide open national and with the ground being so fast i cant see many lasting the distance.i was at aintree yesterday and it was really hot,its forcast the same today and tommorow so i cant see the watering making a huge difference.
i had a fancey for mckelvey but i think its a non runner.ill be back at aintree tommorow so hopefully i will have made my mind up by then.
if anyone is going to be on the embankment i am working with east midlands racing, come and say hi.

OK..just had a look through the form and all that and billyvoddan is the one for me. Never been in better form and if he ever wins it this will be his time.20-1 is a fair price me thinks. though he might drift a bit on the day as everyone finally make a desicion and the housewives pick their winner.

I was thinking about Billyvoddan too, bound to be a winner :D

ive drawn up a shortlist from reading through the racing part of the paper , i only bet big on horses once a year so ...

in order ( favourite first )

 Billyvoddan - great stamina

Numbersixvalverde - done it last year , no reason why he cant do it again this year ?

Point Barrow - won the Irish National , what better reason do you need ? see valverde for proof of Irish winners

Simon - only if going is good to soft - which is unlikely i think

Dun Doire - in with a good shout

Longshanks - fresh and on form

Silver Birch - again if going is soft cant be ruled out

Joes Edge - well backed and has a chance

Le Duc - good on fences and and decent form lately

any ''experts'' opinions on these choices and the going ( good , soft , firm )

also , best odds / bookies to place these bets would be a help

 cheers , BT

The going is likely to be good, they have been watering every day to ensure this.

Title: Re: Grand National
Post by: BigTomatoes on April 13, 2007, 08:37:26 PM
ive decided to go for Point Barrow as my out and out winner , Billyvoddan as my flutter , and Le Duc as my outsider.

might stick a couple of quid on the others as well , do these picks look good to anyone else or am i missing something ?

also , are the odds likely to change for better or worse closer to the race tomorrow ?

lol are you going to narrow it down Tomatoes :D

i know , i originally fancied 9 , even if i had a tricast , 3 seperate each ways and an out an out winner id struggle to get my stake back.

ill wait and see how i feel tomorrow , maybe i wont go daft.

Just a couple of dabbles for me:

Royal Auclair, an old favourite of mine @ 42, and Kandjar D'allier, because Choc is bang in form @ 180.

just watched th preview program on bbc there and all the big papers are going for point barrow.

so, if you want on, get on early, cos it is likely to go off at a much shorter price after everyone reads claude duval over their corn flakes tomorrow.

i think it will win.

jack high e/w

Pete - Mckelvey
Jayde- LAmi
Jazz - Idle talk
Shelly-Dun Doire

We think Hedgehunter may run a good race and get placed he's a class horse despite being top weight.

my girlfriend wants to bet jack high , cos our wee boy is called jack , i told her she would be better keeping her money or trying to persuade her to stick it on another horse with a chance , Billyvoddan or something ,

  '' i dont care , i like the one called jack ''

  :dontask:

Not really one for us form studiers. More of a lucky pin jobby.

40 runners, carnage at every race. Lil bit of a lottery.

But, great fun anway and my 3 against the field are:

Longshanks @ 28-1
Dun Doire @ 22-1
Kelami @ 48-1

just one for the imagination if u fancy a flutter numbersixval will still be there or there abouts loves the gallop and aslong as it hits the run in on its feet its wont be far away im on Billyvoddan at 20's and NumberSixVal at 14's massive price lump on!!!

lol...I completely disagree that the national is a pinprick job. You have to go with a horse that can avoid any trouble (so must be up with the pace) and is a sound jumper and stayer. Hedgehunter looks more tempting to me by the minute and looks a certainty to place (first 5...FOR GOD SAKE..place bets with bookies that do first 5 EW..bet365 and bluesquare to name 2..don't go to laddies they do poor odds (26 point difference on some horses..26 points!!!! and only 4 places)

BTW my EW bet with stanjames was on eurotrek aswell as my Mrs wanted an EW bet on him

I shared my 5er free on stan james between my two girls so they have a whole £1.25 e/w on simon and silver birch gives em something to cheer on during the race.

Stan James free £5 after race £51.56, one of my girls seems to have inherited her mums ability to randomly pick a horse my wife picked slim pickings for an e/w bet aswell, all my bets null and void lol

My selections werent great. Well done to Steelio tho.

My sister who never bets on racing text my Dad just before the race asking for a fiver on Silver Birch. So he did it on his little betfair machine and it was 65-1 on the win market, so he put some on himself, and he won £2400 and she got £320. lol.

My Dad had Silver Birch, my wife picked it but didn't put money on it and ironically, I should have had  a punt as it's a name of a local boozer here.

Well played my Dad though, couple of quid e/w and he's picked up about £140!
