My first course would be in 1969, I would be an eleven year old boy who had just spent two hours in the swimming baths. What an appetite that gave me. I would have a bag of Walkers crisps, a Mars, and a cup of hot chocolate from the snack bar. Did anything ever taste so good? My next course would be in 1975, I would be seventeen. Mrs Red and I would be sitting in a Wimpy in Newark. She would have a toasted teacake and a knicker-bocker glory, I would have chips, fried egg, mushrooms, bacon, and those special sausages that only Wimpy did, cut so that they formed a circle on your plate. The world was a bright and shiny place. We were young, we were invincible, we were immortal and madly in love. Well the Wimpy has gone, along with the circular sausages. We are no longer young, immortal or invincible, but we are still in love. I'll settle for that. My third course would be in 1989, I would be thirty one. It would be a Sunday and Mrs Red would have cooked a roast with all the trimmings. All the Kids would be there, my eldest would be about twelve. We would all be sitting side by side, (as you do in caravans) plates on our laps. We would be waving the cutlery around, talking, arguing and laughing with our mouths full. I hope I realised at the time how happy I was. Now that I think about it there are several more courses I want to have again. Please Sir, may I have some more? Title: Re: your favourite 3 course meal Post by: tikay on April 09, 2007, 10:53:41 AM A lovely, but quite poignant Post byTom, particularly the 1989 meal, which has deeper meaning than many would realise.
But after swimming in 1969 - surely not Walkers Crisps, was it not Smiths Crisps in those days, with the blue salt bag? Title: Re: your favourite 3 course meal Post by: Dewi_cool on April 09, 2007, 10:57:00 AM and 3d back on your bottle of corona
Title: Re: your favourite 3 course meal Post by: tikay on April 09, 2007, 11:01:05 AM and 3d back on your bottle of corona Ahh yes, bottles of corona, a shilling, with threepence back on the lovely, dimply, glass bottle. And Jubbly's! Title: Re: your favourite 3 course meal Post by: RED-DOG on April 09, 2007, 11:01:37 AM But after swimming in 1969 - surely not Walkers Crisps, was it not Smiths Crisps in those days, with the blue salt bag? http://www.btinternet.com/~g_coventry/chopperation_go/redhbr.htm Title: Re: your favourite 3 course meal Post by: Colchester Kev on April 09, 2007, 11:22:06 AM Wow a bike named after Chopper Flush :D :D :D
Title: Re: your favourite 3 course meal Post by: barhell on April 09, 2007, 08:38:06 PM RED if you can find a wimpy they still do the round sausages, in fact i think they may be left over stock from the early 80's.

Calamari en salsa Location Tapas bar jsut off Las Ramblas in barcelona on a warm, balmy day. Crispy battered squid with a spicy tomato sauce, in a relaxed beautiful environ. Fantastic. Main Course Duck a l'orange with all the trimmings (honey roast parsnips, duck fat-roasted roasted potatoes, boiled, buttered carrots, mashed swede, roasted sweet potato, boiled green beans and orange sauce/gravy) Location At home with family and friends on a cold night in a warm house. Duck's the nuts and although i love all roasts, the crispy skin and amazing taste of duck gives it the edge. Dessert I'm not a big sweet fan but Pavlova/ Proiteroles/ Eve's pudding are all great. For nostalgia though I'll prob go for an indulgent knickerbockerglory at one of the ice cream shops on a steamy day in blackpool. Marvellous!
