Title: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Ironside on April 07, 2007, 09:42:17 PM i have never tilted live
amd rarely have online because i play at levels where i can afford to lose but if i wasnt making this post now to keep myself in check i would be right now after i domintaed a 1 table sng i get 3 way with 70% of chips and get cold decked and lose 3 hands in a row to bust out 3rd nothing wrong with that its poker sit down play another start running over table again get a player all in and he only has 2 outs with just one card to come and double him fair enough its poker and i am still chip leader then same player hits his 2nd pair on turn and then same player hits a flush on me each time for a chunk of chips then very next hand i am thinking of calling for a large portion of my stack with T8s to try and get some back off him anyway this is how i am stopping myself from tilting how do you do it Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: AdamM on April 07, 2007, 09:47:37 PM live, I dont tilt. don't know why. my composure is unshakable
Online, I don't stop myself. I'm terrible for tilting after a beat, especially if I'm on more than one table. I tilt on the table I didn't take the hit on. one of the many reasons I'm better live than online Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Ironside on April 07, 2007, 09:50:59 PM grrrrrrrrrrrrrr i just called the guys all in from the sb on my bb as a 65% favourite sure enough he flops top and bottom ah well onwards an upwards
Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: kinboshi on April 07, 2007, 09:52:31 PM I don't tilt after a bad beat (I'll swear a lot though, but I don't let it affect my game). I think I do fairly well in terms of not succumbing to short-term tilt.
BUT, I think there's also the case of longer-term tilt. When variance kicks in and you go on a string of successive losing sessions, tourneys where you don't cash, etc. I find that harder to beat than the one-off bad turn of cards. How do others beat that? I find that I'll change the way I play to take into account the bad run - even though I know I shouldn't. I'm deviating from my A-game, and that's not a good thing (even if my A-game isn't the best to start with). Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Ironside on April 07, 2007, 09:55:04 PM kin i just move back down the levels so it doesn effect my roll too bad
saying that i am just coming off what is proberly over 2 years of running real bad at the end of the period i had lost 3/4 of the bankroll i built and i had basicaly stop playing online Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: KingPoker on April 07, 2007, 09:58:50 PM Iron, just want to ask though after those 2 year bad run do you believe its bad luck or some flaw in your game?
Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Ironside on April 07, 2007, 10:05:57 PM i doubt it was just bad luck but it was the same game i played to build a roll from a freeroll win and the same game i am playing now slowly rebuild the roll

mow these rankings arent complete as they dont count thing like sat seats won ( i won a few for wcoop events and the stars biggie when i played them) and also events like apat where i am in slight profit with 2 2nd spots but the last 120 days its shows a ROI of 178% full tracking it shows it ar -10% so for the last 120 days i am running hot (ok its only over 24 events) and lifetime it says i am a fish (well i am but not quite as bad as the trackers say i am) due to the few event i entered through sats nowadays if i play a sat i use the buy in for t$ much better for the bankroll sharkscope has me as a fish also and down 4.7k the real figure is 1.2k but its improving again since i went back to single tabling turbos rather than 4 tabling i actually like sharkscope because people have started using it and play me as a fish and i think this has helped me on my recent hoot run as i am getting some strange calls Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Tragic on April 08, 2007, 01:22:33 PM It's quite weird I used to have major tilt issues that would cost me money i'd spent the last month or so earning. Now....I just don't....sometimes i'll have a go in the chatbox to make myself feel better if he's done something really stupid, but these people make my life at university alot easier, so God bless em when they get lucky I say :D.
Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: BigTomatoes on April 08, 2007, 03:08:45 PM im sitting here with a broke toe after kicking a radiator coz of a bad beat.
i dont tilt live , i voice my opinions and express my emotions ( pleased , angry etc ) , i have a good nature playing live. playing online i turn into a maniac , must be because im behind a screen , but sometimes it really drives me crazy. ps. the hand in question i had AK suited vs AQ off , all the chips in the pot preflop , 20k pot , woulda made me leader of the pack early on , flop is Q high with the nut flush draw , of course it never hit. and i flipped , but i went on and won the tourney anyway , so i kinda broke my toe for nothing and the $$ made up for the pain at least. Post by: madasahatstand on April 08, 2007, 04:57:52 PM get someone you respect to watch you at your tale and you are highly unlikey to make a mistake. or i am anyway. if i think i can get away with a few bad moves when no-one is looking, i go to town and play rubbish at times because i 'feel' lucky.
Ive worked hard on my discipline over the last 4 months and its reaping rewards. sometimes instead of trying to chase back a win, i simply log off, then no slide til tomorrow. also concentration is the biggest factor. you got things on your mind, forget it. you will play autopilot if you dont concentrate and that usually means breaking your own system. what do i know? all i know is that its working for me :) Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Jon MW on April 08, 2007, 07:45:58 PM I avoid tilt by making the logical, rational decision that it would damage my chances of winning.
Try that - just decide not to go on tilt - hope that helps :) Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: Tragic on April 08, 2007, 08:12:10 PM Agree with Jon, it's all in the logic, why do something that makes you as rubbish as the donk ur playing :).
Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: ACE2M on April 09, 2007, 09:07:15 PM i've only recently got tilt fully under control, by sheer number of times it has happened i now shrug it off.
Strangely i'm now bored of poker more than ever and have barely played for a while, maybe i need tilt back. Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Post by: londonpokergirl on April 09, 2007, 09:12:03 PM Never tilted live poker other than at a home game about 5 years ago when somebody called an all in bet and hit runner runner so I vented a little lots of bar stewards etc but since then I calmly walk away , growl in the toilets and restart afresh again
Also never tilted online either, although 2 mouses have managed to escape the mousemat and hit the wall but hey thats what pcworld is for :) Title: Re: how do you stop yourself tilting? Removing emotion from the game will do that, it makes you much better but you lose the buzz. |
