Western Club shows strength in depth.

We took 14 runners who qualified from The Western club. One of them cashed in before the event started and 8 made it through the first day. We now have the chip leader Danny Dborin and two other in the last 41 - David Barker on 135000 chips and Jon Wong who finished 4th last year on 80000 chips.

Just goes to show the quality of players at The Western I suppose!

I play against Dborin regularly at Luton....quite simply amazed to see him up there, updating my notes! .(clue: he does not show Western club's strength in depth!!)

Still, good luck to him and to DTD's Paul Zimbler too

Apparantly, the grinder of the week award must go to Norways BA Kildalen who informs us that he had average chips on the first hand, but hasn't once stepped over that average stack figure. But, after I advised him to listen to Mickey Wernick on his shoulder and think "What would the worm do?", he has pulled himself into the money and now finds himself on Day 3 with over a 100k.

If you look closely at the picture below, you should be able to spot Mickey on his shoulder.

Do you think mini-mickey's should be allowed in poker?

Discuss.

Morning! Is Devilfish still in?

He's still seated... in front of the piano over at the lobby bar.

Impressive performance and endless laughs with Snoop & Jen yesterday night (back to back impersonations of Let It Be and Hey Jude were top notch, even Mike Sexton was witnessed nodding with approbation)

About 15 mins until play starts. No seat draws yet. We reckon De Wolfe is the biggest name left so he'll probably be at the TV table.

By the way, the camaraman from Challenge TV is disappointed that his photo with the Mayo Mob isn't on view!!!

Er..this is our Achilles heel - Danny is sat with his back to the spectator area and the only way to get his chip count will be to turn invisible and sneak in front of the ring of cameras.  Or ask him in the break.  Don't worry, I've never seen a back look so relaxed...

The majority of the remaining players are Irish, but us Brits still have a few hopes, one of which is Carlo Citrone who sure looks menacing in this photo. Forget the bulldog and wasp analogy, this pic could wake a small child out of a coma.

Danny McHugh busts Christian Lohmann straight away:

Short stacked Lohmann (55k) got it all in very favourably, actually, with Ac Qs against McHugh's Kh Qh...
Flop:  4c Js Qd
Turn: 3c
River:  Kd

So 41st place goes to the Danish youngster (much wringing of hands on the river from Hostrup, but a big cheer from the Danny Fan Club...)

Danny McHugh busts Christian Lohmann straight away:

Short stacked Lohmann (55k) got it all in very favourably, actually, with Ac Qs against McHugh's Kh Qh...
Flop:  4c Js Qd
Turn: 3c
River:  Kd

So 41st place goes to the Danish youngster (much wringing of hands on the river from Hostrup, but a big cheer from the Danny Fan Club...)

how many left cutie.whats the average stack??

Terry McDaid has taken 100k off Mizzi's stack. The youngster mucked on the River, but we do know that Terry had 6-8 on a J-9-9-6-8 board.

With the blinds now at 5,000 and 10,000, Dan Smith has started bumping and grinding, moving all-in pre-flop for around 100k and taking the blinds uncontested.

The Big Blind showed Q-3 and said, "You could be moving with Q-2" to which Dan replied with, "That would be a sick call."

Eddie Gorman is the first to go after the table break break...

Having bluffed off a few to Tim Flanders (who called a 30kish bet on the river 9-8-2-4-4 with A-8 and saw Gorman muck), he got it all in with 3c 3h, called by superstack Danny D'Borin's 8h 8s...
The board came Qs 5c Qc 6s Tc and the man known by MC as "The PaddyPower Qualifier" headed for the rail (€10k richer).

Nicolai Kostakis survives an all-in, moving 40 or so k in (probably blind) with 8-3, only to find that he had Terry McDaid and his 7-3 somehow dominated.

8-T-K-6-A board sealed the deal.

Oh you overhear some things in the pressroom - the Antesup team are shaking their heads in sheer stupefaction after hearing about Nicky Power's move a minute ago...

He was on the big blind.  It folded to the small blind, Roland, who raised.  Nicky announces, "All in."  The dealer mucks his hand.  No one notices; Nicky cups his hands in front of him.  The small blind mucks instantly and the pot is awarded to him, in the odd situation where neither player had any cards, and he'd made the last action.

Tom Murphy:  "What a headcase."

Jules 'Hartwith' Adamson doubles up to around 210k:

All-in pre (it's pretty much the order of the day - we're not seeing hugely complex streets play) with Ahrt Jh against John Quinn's 4c 4s.
Flop:  2s Tc 3c  "No change," helps the announcer, as Jules is off his chair
Turn:  5h  Supporters materialise for the ex-blond as he looks on with the tension you might expect
River:  Jd  Cheer from the crowd (that sinking feeling for Quinn) as Jules starts circling his chair like dogs do before they go to sleep on something

Roland (pictured here with a third of the chips he now has) is now comfortably topping 650k.  I sense yet another final table coming on...

The reason you can't really see his arm in this photo is that he's in the process of raising, something he was doing pretty much non-stop on his first table today, and presumably fairly regularly on his second.

The Paddy Power qualifiers are all playing for a last longer WSOP package, and it looks like there are 4 left:

Paul Dooley -- 415k
Thomas Finneran -- 290k
Joe Rafferty -- 85k
Jeremy O'Leary -- feature table

Eamon informs me that over a quick chat and a cream egg Roland De Wolfe has become the first honourary member of the Mayo Mob!!

Thats setting the standard. Hes cashed almost 2 mill in tourneys over the last 2 years. At that rate he could be an official member in.......4 years maybe.

He has however agreed that as Danny has been on the tour for so long he will be allowed to deal.

Roland takes a chunk off behatted David Barker - a flop with an Ace, two diamonds, kept them in all the way, until a small diamond completed the flush potential on the river and Roland had his 50k(?) bet called.  Speculation on the rail, drab but likely, "He had an Ace."

A 20 minute break is scheduled for about two minutes from now - 450 players, meanwhile, have thronged the lobby in preparation for the €1k side event.  35 minute clock, has to be over in two days, what the hell!  They're here and they're up for it...

Whether that's a coffee break or a dinner break, I'm unsure, but what I do know is that they are swapping the feature table which means the current TV table will be thrown back with us commoners.

Just left the TV table where he's been since 4pm... nearing half a mil, so in the Second Tier chipwise (Roland does, in fact, have a Million now, he wasn't just saying that because it sounded good).  If you get the right channel, you can watch all his hands after their superfast editing, as it's shown later tonight.

Unbelievably, I just spotted recent eliminatee Tim Flanders in the €1k.  Along with pretty much everyone else who didn't hop on the first flight home after Day One.  Paul Zimbler was looking for Dave Colclough in the break, but there's a sea of tables once more and I wished him luck in spotting him during the 10 mins left...

Meanwhile Jules Adamson has only 130k or so, and is planning on re-raising Roland.  A tricky proposition when he admitted Roland tended to have the goods.
"So you're saying de Wolfe is a luckbox?"  I pressed.
"Yes.  Yes he is."  replied Hartwith, whose flight home leaves in five minutes.

Mick McCloskey rides the Aces rollercoaster News Now:

Tom Finneran raised preflop and got a call from Mick in the big blind.  I figure this from the size of the pot when it all got in on the Ts 6d 6c flop.  Tom had the Ac As while Mick's Tc 9c looked to be in a bit of trouble.  It stayed that way; Tom doubled up leaving McCloskey with under 50k and a pretty instant push in.

This time he had the Ahrt Ac and big blind autocaller Carlsson had Tc 7s.  The board quickly double paired (Jacks and Deuces) and without the house split Mick is still in, hanging by thread...

Incredibly, play has slowed down a tad, but it'll only last a couple of minute, so don't go anywhere just yet...

I did see more from online sensation Sorel Mizzi, re-raising Peter Eastgate from the small blind (21k to 65k) to take the pot.

Seems like he utilizing his big stack to full effect - would be great to see Mizzi and Roland go at it.

Jules Adamson Double Doubles:

Down to his last meagre 60k, he doubles up in successive hands to over 250k - no idea what the first one was but the second saw his Ac 9c all in against McCabe's Ad 8c.  He couldn't have been in much better shape, and with a 9ds 3d 4s flop (running Queens filling the rest of the board) he was grinning as he found himself back in the game.

It might not show from this picture and the dejected posture of Thomas Finneron, but the Paddy Power qualifier has just doubled up off Peter Maughan who is retelling his tale of woe to Mike 'Lucky Blind' Lacey on the rail.

It was an unavoidable car crash I guess, with Peter finding Queens and raising it up pre-flop, before calling the all-in of Thomas, as pretty much every player on the planet would do at this stage

The board came a Queenless Th 4h 5h 2h Ts, and although Peter made a flush with the Qh, Thomas outdid him by one with the Kh.

As a result of this clash, Peter is now down to a meek 40k.

Last Longerest Dusk Till Dawner Paul Zimbler says he's like totally psyched (I paraphrase).  Chipped up (over 600k) and not too worried, as it turns out, at being sat right next to monster chip leader Roland.  He was comfortable on the TV table, playing a few hands which might get on TV - he says he pushed off five limpers with 9-9 from the big blind once, plus got the Aces, but re-raised too much preflop - he says he was hoping the overbet would tempt in a small pair...

Of his J-Q preflop call of a short stack's raise and subsequent push on the flop he is unrepentant - even though he was called by A-K and won by spiking a Jack, he reckons that pushing on a raggy flop was a good chance for him to win it...

As for his opponents, he rates young Canadian Sorel Mizzi highly, but is looking to get "me and Roland heads up."  Pictured, the Marbella Kid talking to Sorel (white hoody) and relaxing in the previous break.

First hand back and we've lost one in Peter Peter Maughan.

All-in with Ahrt 8s, Peter runs into the Kh Ks of Julian Adamson, which holds up on a 5c Ts 9d Js Td board, although that Turn must have relaxed the ol' anus muscles somewhat.

Title: Re: Paddy Power Irish Open: Day 3 - Interactive

Jules Adamson loses one - to the highly popular fox O'Keefe:

Raising to 40k, O'Keefe called and they saw a 7-8-4 flop.  O'Keefe immediately moved in, forcing a pass (and show of 3d 3c) from Jules.
_________________________________

Roland's armour somewhat cracked:  He gets Glen McCabe all in (around 300k, which he called reasonably fast) with Qd Qc...Glen had Aspades Jh.
Flop:  Ac 8c 9s
Turn:  4s
River:  Ahrt

So the first big-pot outdraw of the chip leader - followed quite abruptly by his call of all-in Darrin Melwani, whose Ad Jd stayed in front of Roland's Ahrt 3h.  That was a smaller pot - I heard the announcer announce the figure 177k - but I wonder if the halt of his smooth rise to domination is tilting him ever so slightly...

Plus, I will feel bad if he destroys 1.5 mil in chips because I picked him and last time I did that, he said, "You bokked me in Dortmund."

Only two Paddy Power qualifiers remaining, one of which is Paul Dooley who has just moved all-in for 451k on a 9h 4d 3h 3c board.

Paul Zimbler with the decision, eventually folding, which led to a (relieved?) clap from Dooley.

On a total sideline, I got to see the contents of Eamonn's camera earlier.  One of the pictures was of a weird ultracloseup of Willie Tann's head.  I wondered, briefly, what had possessed him to take this shot.  THEN I saw another photo, taken from behind Willie's back, which showed a group of people posing in front of Mr. Tann while he held a camera to snap them - the wrong way round.  It all fell into place...

In 27th place, winning €14,000 finishes BA Kildalen...

He pushed in at the first open opportunity (he had about 130k)  with what he said, when called, was Aces but was in fact Aspades 4d.  He got looked up by Ac Qs...

Board:  2s 7d Qd Ahrt Td.

Benjo says, "Like Jack Bauer would say, 'DAMMIT!'"

Just got back from watching Sunshine (Awesome film), well played to BA.  ;applause;

Bruce Yamron is eliminated by Sorel Mizzi:

Missed the preflop action (they're on the TV table), but the heads up flop came Aspades Jc 7h.  Bruce Yamron moved in, call from Sorel, who held Ad 8d, now comfortably ahead of Yamron's Qd Qc...  The turn brought a Ts which prompted a rustle of "King..." from his supporters, but the rivered 9c knocked Bruce out and we are down to 15.

I join the action with the flop reading Ts 2d 2c, Marty Smthy having checked and with Jerker Eriksson betting 100k.

Marty Smyth dwells it up, counts out his chips and makes the call.

Turn = 9c

Marty checks, Jerker moves all-in and Marty calls instantly for his remaining 167k.

Jerker mucks before seeing the academic River.

"Great play," praises O'Keefe as Marty reveals Pocket Tens for the full house.

Jerker is furious with himself and his newly depleted 110k stack, but forces himself to tap the table nonetheless.

Great play? Well, he got all his chips, but I thought it was pretty obvious he had a big hand. Can't see why he'd call 100k on the Flop and leave himself 167k back if he didn't, especially when it's accompanied by an Oscar winning performance.

Possibly suffering the tilt effects, but not in a position to do much else, Jerker Eriksson moved in with 4s 4d and got a caller in Nicky Power with his Ac Kh.
The Kc 9h Qh 9c Ks board was pretty emphatic, so a disappointed Jerker Eriksson is suddenly on the rail, finishing 15th, winning €19,000...

The action's still thick and fast and it shouldn't take too long, but not unless they stop chopping pots up, the latest being an all-in clash between Danny McHugh and Paul Dooley, Aspades Ks vs. Ad Qd ending up in a split pot on a 4d 5s 8c 8d 5h board.

Looks like Peter Eastgate has rattled Brian O'Keefe's cage, forcing him to fold his initial 45k raise with an all-in from the big blind. O'Keefe showed Sevens and was desperate to know if he was ahead, saying "Did you have a pair?", "Do you ever speak", but Eastgate was relentless in his silence.

The very next hand, O'Keefe adopted a different approach, simply moving all-in pre-flop for 300-350k and winning the blinds uncontested.

Nooooooooooooooooooo! Say it ain't so. Nicotine Patches are NOT the way to give up smoking, trust me!

Read Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" - it really works, & is stress free & pain free. If I can do it, (60 a day for life to zero overnight) I'm damn sure you can!

Good Luck, see you at the WSOP......;)

Julian Adamson is the first post-dinner exit and, as Neil 'I shot JR' Kelly comments, "It's a sick game, it's a sick game."

Peter Eastgate raises it up pre-flop, Julian Adamson pushed all-in and Peter made the obligatory call.

Peter = Ad 2d

Julian = Ahrt Jc

Flop = Kc 4h 3c

"Stick a 9 of clubs down, dealer," begs Julian.

Turn = 5s

River = 7s

"For fuck's sake," rages a clearly frustrated and distraught Julian Adamson.

Preflop battle between Tom Finneran, who started it by raising to 60k (blinds 10/20k), and Peter Eastgate, who re-raised out of the small blind, to 210k.  Back to Qualifier Tom, who announced "all-in" - it looks like he probably covered Eastgate, who went into the tank.  Eventually he passed, and got shown Ac 3c.  A bit of adrenaline fuelled chat from Tom, including "something-something-f***ing-something" which got an immediate warning from the TD.

A vastly supported Brian O'Keefe has doubled up, cracking Aces in the process. I couldn't get near the table to get the details as the audience had crashed the barrior and were swarming the table. I did hear the announcer say that Brian has Turned a flush draw and then Rivered the Flush, so it sounded like a painful one.

Word is out that we're talking about a 700k pot though, so a huge one for O'Keefe which he didn't hesitate to celebrate to the fullest.

Glen McGabe is OUT.

All-in on the feature table with A-9, Glen found himself in big doggy doo against Sorel Mizzi, the North American holding a seemingly formidable A-T on an A-T-3 Flop.

3 Turn and 8 River were no help and we lost our 10th man in Glen McGabe, who exited like a gentleman, shaking hands with all remaining players on that table.

Sorel Mizzi takes two standard pre-flop raises from Roland de Wolfe - once re-raising from the big blind (Roland sb) and once from the small blind (Roland button).  He passes smiling, however, and this is unlikely to tilt the seasoned de Wolfe - but Sorel looks to me like one of the stronger players in the field and I wouldn't be surprised to see him taking on the chipleaders with no fear on the final.

9 players left and they're down to one table. Its on an outer table as the TV table only has room for 8 players.

De Wolfe is takin a fair auld bashing-I'd say his stack has dropped from 1.4million to about 700k. Danny might even be ahead of him!!!

Mighty craic up here but Danny is keepin real cool. He is a "rock" as he told Jesse May earlier!!

12k/24k ante 2k.  I really underestimated how long today would be - after five levels of steady knockouts finally it's reached that chip-consolidated, slow-moving bit - plus the TV bubble is at 6 not 8.

Sorel Mizzi is known online as Imperium or zangbezan. He is the #2 player ranked online in the world at pocketfives.com . In the last two months he's had two seperate $40k scores and a $90k score.

He's good :p

I know you're eagerly anticipating the latest news, but there really hasn't been too much to report since they broke down to one table. Everyone's having a go at taking the blinds, the tighter players less so than people like Mizzi and Roland, but we've had a couple of uncontested all-ins, firstly Roland pushing over the top of Marty Smith and then Peter Eastgate with a direct all-in.

And literally 30 seconds after I relieve Snoopy of his tedious "And then X nicked the blinds" watching - This Happened:

Short stacked Peter Eastgate (he's Danish, I believe) moved in, and found a re-raiser in Tom Finneran...a bit of a ruling about what constituted a raise for Roland (it's double the bet, not the raise here) later and they were on their backs:
Peter:  Ac 7d
Tom:  Ad Ks
Board came:  2c 5c 6c 6h Ts

SO Peter Eastgate finishes 9th, winning €35,000

And after a 10 minute break to move the final nine to the off-camera table, there's another one to move them back on the TV table.  Beautiful logistical control.

As far as I'm aware, we're playing down to 6, so two more exits and it's fork time.

Paul Dooley raises it up (didn't catch the amount, but 75k seems to be the standard at this table), Mizzi makes it 220k, Dooley folds.

No one seems to have seen this guy lose a pot in the last few hours!

Raise by Mizzi to 180k pre... It's his.
Paul Dooley makes it 90k pre... It's his.
Roland makes up the small blind, bb Dooley checks.  Flop:  Jc Aspades Th ch-ch  Turn: Tc ch-ch River:  7h  ch-ch  Roland shows Q-7.  "That's Sevens and Tens with an Ace," helpfully adds the commentator.

That's the sum total of all action which has occurred on the final thus far.  Hmm, taking a while, this.

Roland moves in preflop - everyone perks up - the other players fold - everyone calms down.  We've taken the unprecedented step of moving our mobile office (laptop, that is) on to one of the empty tables behind the TV set and just listening to the commentary.  It's a bit like reporting off a live recording of a radio show.

Oh, a re-raise from Paul Dooley: 210k over the top of Martyn Smyth... call, for what must be a good half his stack...we're wondering what's going on with that...
Flop:  6d Aspades 3d  Martyn announces all-in for 320k (ah, now I see) - and Paul takes a good few minutes before letting his hand go.

Jen's taking control of the foldathon, but from where I'm standing, it's very much nicky nicky the blinds and every so often someone moves over the top all-in only for the initial raiser to fold. Seems to be that quite a few of these guys are trying to hold out for the final table tomorrow and hoping that the aggressive players like Roland De Wolfe get all antsy in their pantsy.

ps. Does anyone remember Trumpton Town? Didn't it go Hugh Pugh Danny McHugh Cuthbert Dibble & Grub... or am I imagining things?

All in bet from Brian O'Keefe (big blind) over the top of Roland's min-raise preflop...nothing happened after that, but the crowd went nuts, "COME ON THE FOX!!"  I think they're Brian fans.  Going to try to get some pictures, now, for variety.

And as if inspired by the magic of Mr. Hammer - Nicky Power moves in for 342,000 over the top of Martyn Smyth's 80k preflop raise...

A long fold and Smyth showed 2s 2c.  Power reciprocated: 3d 3c...  took the pot and got some unidentifiable noises of support from the crowd.

Here you go.  The red section represents Sorel Mizzi's chips, the green section the proportion of hands which take less than 5 minutes, the blue section the proportion of the audience who shout really loudly when the Fox is in a hand, and the yellow bit represents the energy of us.

Paul Dooley is OUT and becomes the 8th place finisher winning €50,000

A huge 1.3 million pot involving Dooley and Canadian whiz kid Sorel Mizzi, with all the chips flying in on a 9d 4h 2h Flop.

Dooley = 8h 7h

Mizzi = Ac 9s

"Deuce!" demands a member of the audience.

Turn = dangerous 8s

"Deuce!" he shouts again.

River = Ks

"Ship it!" he shouts.

Mizzi high fives his fellow North Americans as Dooley leaves to a huge roar of appreciation from the onlooking crowd.

Just 7 of the remaining 708 players left.

The blinds are 15,000 and 30,000 with a running ante of 3,000.

The average stack has now surpassed the 1 mil mark at 1,011,400.

Brian folds and shows an Ace. So does Danny.

We have a double up for Nicky Power to the delight of his fans who are whooping and hollering like crazymen.

Sorel Mizzi makes a standard raise of around 100k, Nicky Power (possibly a little fed up) pushes all-in for 447k and Sorel makes the call.

Sorel = Ad 7c

Nicky = Kh Qd

Board = 4h 5s 6c 3c Qc

Celebrations commenced on the Turn. I can only imagine the stunned silence if a 7 had hit the River.

Yes, yes, that's the right way round.  Snoopy is becoming dazed and disoriented - this is his 5th straight update.  I've had a quick word to that effect to the TD, and on my recommendation for Snoopy's mental health they've suspended play until tomorrow...

After Benjo got up the nerve to openly take photos of him, Snoopy pressed the wrong button on his camera and deleted them.  I'm sure he's doing it again, though, as we wrap up in here (Devilfish singing, not Snoopy deleting his own Gossip Column material)...
