Title: Money or Glory?
Post by: taximan007 on April 08, 2007, 09:45:54 PM
You are given the choice:

winning the main event at the world series, but EVERY cent goes to charity, but you get to keep the bracelet. (90% of any spin off money goes to charity also)

Finishing 2nd and KEEPING the money.

What is your decision?

fiishing second and keeping the money.
Its not a movie, its real life and unfortunately i dont have a 7 figure bank balance so ill have to take the money and then maybe give charity 100k...so i feel a bit better. ::)

"So how much money did you in the World Series, Dad?"
"Shut up son, and keep polishing those bracelets!"

Cash please, no publicity, no deals.

i win it but i take 50% 'management' fee's for the chairity of my choice......lol

its difficult. although id love to say id give all the cash to charity, its not what id do. id take the money and give some away :) if however, i was made of money, the bracelet would be more important and the charity could have it all.....

I would take 2nd,  the WSOP would be a nice event to win, but to be honest I would be more than happy just being an unknown cash game player who earned a decent living each year than a superstar.  I need to work on beating the $0.15/0.25 NL games before that will ever happen though  :D

The Bracelet. Money comes and goes and means nothing.

To be honest I would take first and the bracelet as I would make up for the lost money through endorsements, appearance fees, etc

I would want to win, not for the glory, but personal accomplishment.

The money would come in other ways.

i would take the title and the bracelet as money means nothing too me i can live with or without it
winning a ME bracelet puts you into the recoed books forever and you will never be forgotten

Money comes and goes and doesn't mean anything to me......LOL

Cmon, we're talking what, like $7.5m or similar? You'd have to go some for that to come and go....

Unless you're seriously sick, that amount sets you (and your family) up for life

Agreed, id rather be famous for something good for humanity as a whole than being a poker champ and having the next generation of Hellmuth's looking up to me as an idol. Ship the money and second prize, you can do a lot more for charities etc when uv invested wisely and taken over the world with your billions.............................

On a tangent........at the same time id probabaly do something extremely odd to gaurantee some extra cash from interviews, like get naked or swear a lot.

I think the question would be more appropriate if you said that the second place finish was behind closed doors and that no1 knew about it, as coming second on that stage with all the cameras still gets you a lot of glory.

Id take the title and with good PR and management team I could earn the 10 million in endorsements within 12 months  ;)

Easy one for me glory!  :)

Money, how can you turn it down?  With that bankroll, you'd be playing in all the big events and getting a title would happen eventually, if not, the $7.5m would keep me happy enough.

...my original idea, but note the conditions stated that.....

90% of any spin off money goes to charity also

But still, that's a mill for me, & 9 mill for charity!

It would be 2nd and the money everytime, glory is great but im not one for liking being in the limelight. So its not only the fact of money but also it still would allow you to play without a target on your head like moneymaker, raymer and hachem said they have in most tournaments.
And somebody said money comes and goes, money only comes and goes if your a gambler. I dont consider myself one and could think of 20 different ways to secure that money for the future. I might waste a few hundred thou playingin the big game just to say i have done it but that would be it  ;)

glory for me. Id only spunk the 7.5 mill anyway and if I had the main event bracelet I could play poker free for the rest of my life and wouldn't ever have to worry about buyins, meals, accomodation etc. Even giving away 90% of spinoffs you could still live a very comfortable rest of your life.

I would want the money..even if I were to ever be lucky enough to play in the ME let alone win it I wouldn't want any of the fame malarky.

The money for me.  If I'd already won millions, then it would probably be the bracelet.  But I don't have millions, and the bracelet won't pay the mortgage.

What a good question.

Money for sure, just think of all the Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Brut you could buy!

glory. place in the hall of fame remember? and you can make alot of money through reputation on tables by being ME champ. whereas you can't if your ME runner up. because about 1000% less people recognise you!
