Morning all,

Well I lasted nine hours at Baden before walking the plank in 53rd place. But the way I went out was interesting, to say the least. I was low stacked (about 4,200) and had to double up sharpish with the blinds at 600/1,200 and 100 ante. With A 10 in my hand I went for it. Paul Testud of France raised ahead of me, I pushed all in, everyone else folds and Paul calls. He turns over his cards, I go to turn over mine - and they've gone! Yes, the dealer had mucked them!
Chaos follows as I protest to the dealer, as do the rest of the table, led by Roland Dewolfe - even Paul Testud, to his credit, wanted to split the pot there  and then (And he had A K). But the dealer insisted I should have protected my cards with a chip - that was difficult since I had pushed them all in!
The tournament director is called, everyone else comes to have a look at the ensuing kerfuffle. Result? I lose the all my chips, the tournie director insisting it was my fault for properly protecting my cards.
Inexplicably, though, I was given 700 chips back. No one knows why, and  I trebled up next hand, then went out two later.
Interesting day! Anyone know why I got those 700-odd chips back? ???

Was so miffed I did not stop to ask his name - and yes, the cards were behind the line. I was in seat nine, right next to the dealer where these mistakes often seem to happen. :(

I know, I know - just that I was not taking much notice of who the group of suits were around me. Couldn't see through the red mist! Card protector on order......

Did you have 700 more chips than M.Testud possibly ?

Roland dewolfe has just explained all to me - the 700 back was the extra I put in on my all-in to Tustad's raise.

Am afraid I have now seen this at least 3-4 times this year.  When sitting in the seats next to the dealer, it really is your responsibility to protect your cards, whether it be by a chip, a lucky charm or just your hands.

Tough beat but they are the rules and the TD acted in the right way.  Your hand is mucked and you lose your bet.

The only consolation is that your A10 was a big dog to your opponents AK and you would have needed an outdraw...i have seen opponents do this when they had AA!! Now that is tough!!

Suffolk, this is unlucky but also correct. You really should hold put something like a chip on your cards, if you dotn have any chips, or a card protector then i would suggest using ur hands when you are all in!
