Title: Any baseball fans on Post by: happybhoy on April 18, 2007, 10:14:23 PM Apparently the first rule of baseball isn't you don't talk about baseball but that the pitcher may not bring his pitching hand to his mouth unless it's cold or he is not standing on the mound. Does anyone know why? My first thought was to prevent foulling the ball but I can't see why it would be okay to do off the mound.
Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: Acidmouse on April 18, 2007, 11:56:50 PM so he doesn't lube it?
Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: matt674 on April 19, 2007, 02:24:35 PM That used to be the old rule - but its been expanded now so that it makes it clearer, whilst that is still a penalty they have brought lots of rules in now to try and stop pitchers applying substances to the ball or defacing it to aid with the pitching.
As its not like cricket where only 1 ball is used its hard in baseball to keep track of who is doing what to a ball as lots end up being kept by the crowd etc etc - therefore if they dont put their hands to their mouth the umpire can see that they are not applying saliva or any other foreign substance they happen to be chewing on. olden days, pitcher licks hand whilst chomping on chewing tobacco, makes ball wet - throws unbelievable curve ball, catcher catches ball and wipes clean - no-ones any the wiser....... Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: matt674 on April 19, 2007, 03:04:52 PM Did Mark Buehrle whilst playing for the White Sox not get into trouble a few years back for inferring that a few of the Cubs pitchers were cheating? (most assumed at the time he was talking about Greg Maddux). By licking their fingers whilst chewing on illegal substances and appearing to then wipe their fingers on their uniform but actually wiping a different finger then applying the illegal substance to the ball?

Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: matt674 on April 21, 2007, 12:20:45 PM Had it when it was NASN for £7 a month - refused to pay £15 a month when satanta sports took it over. Until they change it where i can just get the NASN channel i wont buy the package. There isnt enough variety for me to warrant paying that much. Yes when the playoffs are on for the hockey maybe but during the regular season there just isnt enough choice of games.
With mlb.tv i get the choice of watching whatever game i like - and if its boring i switch to another. And when i say £10 a month, thats the most expensive package. If you get the standard yearly 400k streaming its £45 a year for every mlb game during 2007. If you visit nhl.com's video section you can get the highlights of every game for free, ok so its not the same as watching the games live but more often than not i dont stay up til 2am to watch the games live anyway just the highlights on the following day. dont know why everyone is getting all hyper about it - if Alexander Enmanuel Rodriguez stays fit he'll beat the record within the next 5-7 years Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: scottm on August 07, 2007, 01:02:48 AM Please just get 756 so we can finally get rid and start the rebuilding process ;pokergods; dont know why everyone is getting all hyper about it - if Alexander Enmanuel Rodriguez stays fit he'll beat the record within the next 5-7 years Got to agree with you there sir :)up Although Bonds has equalled the record, the "suspicion of drug use" cloud hanging over him, i think, detracts from his feat. Anyway are the Giants still hanging about at the bottom of their division ? Not in with a chance of the wildcard/division title ?? Didn't think so ;nana; ;nanana; ;hide; Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: matt674 on August 07, 2007, 12:29:24 PM Please just get 756 so we can finally get rid and start the rebuilding process ;pokergods; Got to agree with you there sir :)updont know why everyone is getting all hyper about it - if Alexander Enmanuel Rodriguez stays fit he'll beat the record within the next 5-7 years Although Bonds has equalled the record, the "suspicion of drug use" cloud hanging over him, i think, detracts from his feat. Roll on next season (and the next 3 rebuilding seasons post bonds!!) Title: Re: Any baseball fans on Post by: Acidmouse on August 08, 2007, 08:44:16 AM His stats aint that bad, but I bet his wages are huge. Let him retire end of the season and get 3-4 decent players in.
Glad he did it at home ground :) |
