Here are some random hands...

On Table Flushy, there's some preflop raising. With 475 already in the pot, the flop comes  4h 7c 2d. John McNair bets 600 (which I accidentally read as GOD on my notes, but was actually 600); Daniel Smith folds.

On table Mike Lacey (Table Eight), with a bunch of chips in the pot and the board  9h Jh 3h Kc 4d, Matey 8-2 bets 1600. Paul Gourlay calls pretty quickly but mucks when Ouday Hikary shows his  Ahrt 6h. Gourlay looks very sad, and does that thing where he wistfully cradles his remaining chips in one hand and counts them over and over, a bit like staring into the bottom of one's drink...

Meanwhile on Table 7, the board reads  Kh 8s Ac Ahrt. Ish Patel bets 600, John Keown calls. River comes  Kc, and Ish again bets 600 and Mr Seat 9 calls - he shows  Kd Qd but he was behind all the way against Keown's  Ad 7s.

We've had a table break already today, not because of exits, but because there were 134 entries but only 130 players sat down.

And a hand I saw while I was trying to take an un-blurry picture of Simon Zach:

On a flop of  6s Td 9s, George Macdonald bet 400; Ken Clark calls.

Turn -  Ahrt

Check, check.

River -  Qc

At which Ken Clark bets 500 and Macdonald calls, but mucks when Ken shows his  Kd Qd.

Ahrt 3c Qc board

A shaven headed Roberto Romanello bets 600 into a 500 pot, (5-way 3 limpers and the blinds making up). One limper passes, the cut-off (Satnam Sandhu) raises to 1200, the sb Terry Nelson check-raises to 3000, the big blind and Romanello passes.

Sandhu moves all-in quickly and Nelson calls just as quick.

Sandhu:

3s 3d

Nelson:

Qd 3h

Turn:

Qh

A collective oooooooh from the table.

River:

9s

Barry Carter tells me Terry said, "I knew you had a set but I tried to get your off it anyway."  :dontask:

Sandhu is down to about 3k or so.

Jeff Rogers is OUT, his pocket Aces were no match for 4-5.

Jeff Rogers is OUT, his pocket Aces were no match for 4-5.

The full scoop now from our ace reporter in the field, Jeff Kimber. "Jeff [Rogers] made it 150 to play from UTG and got 5 callers. Flop came A-2-T and he bet 150 and again got 5 callers including Mad Turk, the turn was a 3 and he bet again and Mad Turk called. The river was a blank and he bet 1500, Mad Turk made it 3000, Jeff made it 4500 and Mad Turk moved in and Jeff called."

Mad Turk added, "He swore at me a little..."

Simon Zach is down to about 4200 somehow, and wandered off to tell someone about it on his mobile just after I took the picture.

Actually he seems incredibly popular today, he can barely sit down before someone else calls him and he's off again. I caught him between phone calls though - he said the hand that took half his stack off him he was holding  6s 7s, and called a preflop raise of 675, as did Mateyboy. The flop came 9 - 5 - 3, two hearts, giving him a double belly buster draw. Simon checked, Mateyboy bet 500, and both Simon and the original raiser called. Turn came  2h, check round. The river came another 2, and Simon bet 2100; Mateyboy folded but Original Raiser called with his pocket kings. Simon says he was pretty sure Mr Raiser had an overpair but thought he could push him off. "I thought he was gonna pass, the twat," is how he put it.

Also saw Barry Neville - at first I thought he was playing tomorrow and had just come down for the electric atmosphere and free soft drinks, but it turns out he is in fact playing today, and is doing rather well on 18k. He says his table is full of good fish, one of whom called his flopped straight all the way down and another of whom similarly paid off his king high flush. He is in a particularly good mood because he got in for $10. The lurking around the rail was part of his strategy for the tournament, which he intends to play in the manner of a marathon rather than the sprint which he said he played in Cardiff.

Mick McCool grabbed my attention and then my pad and proceeded to write the following down the following which recounts the demise (from the tournament) of Lawrence Gosney.

"Lawrence raises to 300 from 2nd position with 6c 9c, Paul Wilson calls with 5-5 and Mick Fletcher calls with 6-8.

Flop: 6-6-5

Lawrence bets 200, Paul Wilson calls 200, Mick raises to 600, Lawrence re-raises to 3700, Paul Wilson moves in for 11,000. Mick mucks after much muttering, Lawrence calls for remaining 2300.

Turn 8.

Mick muttered some more after that.

River J."

And here's a picture of Mick's incredibly tidy writing.  ;hattip;

Flushy, "I laid down a overpair to the board, I'm as shocked as anyone."

He raised Q-Q, bet 1200 into a 1600 pot against two players on a J-9-6 board, checked the 3 turn against 1 caller and passed on the T river to his opponent who bet 2500.

He also said that the welshman to his left, who we think is Jack Owen, is hitting everything. Indeed, just as I spoke to Flushy the former bet 2k on a 8-Q-7-K-7 board with Q-Q and was paid off by K-T of another player.

Players are currently on a break. Barry Carter joined me in my pizza nook - he's been so demoralised by the first couple of levels that he left his table for a cigarette before the break actually started. Apparently a combination of failure to hit any flops, a bunch of people on his table calling with silly J-8 / T-7 kinds of hands, and by his own admission not playing terribly well means his stack has taken a bit of a knock. 6000 chips is certainly not irrecoverable-from though, and he is currently regrouping on a sofa in the bar.

An exit!

Andrew Harrison raises preflop to 400 and finds callers in Kerry Taylor, Paul Gourlay and Martin Turner.

Flop -  5d Qs 6s, and Turner bets 700; Taylor and Harrison fold but Paul Gourlay calls.

Turn -  7d, and Gourlay goes all in for 2050. Martin Turner dwells for ages, and Paul Gourlay stands up like he's ready to leave. Eventually he calls and turns over  Qd 9d, which is no match for Paul's  6d 6h. But disaster!

River - the dreaded  8c for the straight, and Paul Gourlay is OUT

On a board of  Qc 6d Qd 3s, Jeff Kimber bets 500 and is called by the very entertaining Yucel Eminoglu. They both check the  Kc river and Eminoglu shows his 4 - 6, and Jeff mucks. "I KNEW! I KNEW!" shouts Eminoglu, waving his arms about. Then he turns to me scribbling down the hand, sits back in his chair and says, "Am I good or what?" Ummm...

Mateyboy lays down Kings now. (we assume)

Limp utg for 150, UTG+1 raised to 750. Mid-position makes it 2k, UTG folds, UTG+1 re-raises to 7000 total with about 8k back, MP moves all-in, UTG+1 dwells and folds. Both gave hints that they held KK and AA.

Flushy update - he was previously on about 4.5k maybe 10 minutes ago - he said he was bored and hadn't yet played a hand well. Actually he said that the whole tournament felt like a bit of a non-event, lacking the atmosphere of other GUKPT events. I think he just said that because he was losing though. And just as I was heading back up to the press room, I saw him go all in for 1600 on a  6s 8s 2s flop with some obvious preflop action. He found a caller in Jack Owen. "Am I ahead?" says Flushy, turning over Aspades Ks. Miles ahead of Owen's  Ahrt Kd.

Double-up for DTD player Richard Ashby, courtesy of one Mr Oliver Stone. Didn't see the whole Hand, but Ashby was holding  Aspades 2c against Stone's  5h 5s, and I think there was a full house involved for Ashby, who now has a veritable Platoon of chips and must feel like he was Born On The Fourth Of July. He's a Natural Born Killer all right.  ;hide;

Flushy, he informed us during the break, is up to 18k after making I think 4 moves with a 100% success rate. He says his earlier short-stackeditude and rockiness is now paying off, enabling him to do silly things like scare off 3 limpers with a raise of 2000 from the small blind holding T- 3 off. Clever him.  ;topofclass;

Excellent thieving action from Mick Fletcher. On an  Ad 2c 2h 6h board, he bets out and is called by Steve Fox on the button. The river comes  9c and Fletcher bets 4000. Roberto Romanello is OUT, no details, but he was pretty short post dinner.

Mike Lacey, much to Flushy's chagrin, is up to 24k. He had A-Q against K-Q and 9-8 on a J-T-2-K-x board and then had Tens against Q-J, his opponent rivered a flush as Mike rivered the full house.

Chris Bruce has just won a couple of big pots.

First he had Ah 2h, bet 1k on a Jh Qd 4h board, and got two callers including Roberto Romanello, he checked the Th turn, Romanello pushed for 4k, the other player smooth-called and so did he. On a blank river, he then got the other player to pay him off another 4k.

A couple of hands later he called a small raise to 750, as did the button and a previous limper. Everyone checked to him on the 6c Js 8c board and he bet 1k, and was called by all other 3 players. They all checked the Ahrt turn, before the original raiser bet 1500 on the Qs river. Chris made it 3.5k, the other players folded and the initial raiser called and Chris showed Td 9d for the rivered straight. The other player, showed 6h 6d, really should've bet the flop and certainly the turn.

On a  Tc 9h 5s 4s board, Andrew Harrison goes all in. After a great deal of probably unnecessary huffing and puffing, Nick Hicks calls. Andrew turns over kings, Nick has aces. River  9s, and Andrew now has only about 3k.

More Chris Bruce action, this time the losing kind - the guy in the red hoodie on Floppy's post a few back, the one who looks a bit like Bluto from Popeye (I think he may be Paul Barnes, but I shall continue to call him Bluto just in case), just moved all in preflop with  Ad 5d, and got himself called by Chris' AQo.  5s on the flop and Bluto doubles up, but he's still short with about 6k.

George Macdonald raises to 900 preflop and is called by Gary Chatterton, a Blackpool gent in a terrifying Hawaiian shirt. I know global warming is really kicking in now, but surely the weather in Blackpool can't yet justify that...

Anyway, they see a flop of  Jh 4s 9c, which must be pretty sunny as far as Gary is concerned as he bets 2000. Macdonald calls.

Turn -  7s. Gary bets 4000, Macdonald calls.

River -  3d. They both check, and Gary mucks when Macdonald shows  Kd Jc. Too hot for him...

Early chip leader Jack Owen is OUT he had 7s 6s on a J-7-8-2-T board but his opponent was holding K-J.

Jules Harwith has doubled up to 28k

He check/raised all-in on the turn of a 8c 7c 5h 8h board against Tuan Le with Ks 8s and found himself up against 9d 8d. The river was a blank 3d and Jules allowed himself a little fist/pump slam on the table.

Saw some great testosterone being thrown around on Table 10 by Hamid Togyhan. On a flop of  9s 9h Qh, Hamid bets minimum and Charlie Denton raises to 1800; Hamid calls. Turn -  5c - Hamid bets and Charlie calls. The turn comes  Js and Hamid bets again; Charlie instacalls and Hamid instamuck/folds without waiting to see Charlie's AJ.

Then on a  7d Kh Qs flop, there is a massive raising war between Hamid and George Macdonald, culminating in Hamid going all in and George eventually folding.

Shortish, Jeff, check/raised all-in with Ac Jc, after Matt had checked and Matey bet on a Js 8s 3h board but found Matey sitting with Qd Qc and didn't improve.

Mel Judah doubled up, super short, pushed with 8s 6s, the guy next to him called with Qs Qd. Mel stands up.

I have just now witnessed the demise of Marrco Jenkins, by way of a triple-up for Ken Clark.

Ken Clark went all in a bit short and was called by both Marrco and Victor Kaye.

Checked-down board  4d 9d 4s Ad Qs

Ken Clark -  Ahrt Kd

Marrco Jenkins -  Ac Jc

Victor Kaye -  Qd Ks

...And AK wins it, and Marrco is left with only 300 chips - 250 after the ante. All in under the gun next hand, he has 3 callers, who check it down.

George Macdonald -  4h Th

Victor Kaye -  5h 8d

Charlie Denton -  3h 4c

Marrco Jenkins -  Qh 3s

3-4 takes it, and Jenkins is OUT.

Nick Hicks just lost a chunk.

He raised to 1100 (200/400/50) from UTG and was called in two places.

Flop:

Jd Qc 3s

Nick bets 1600, one player calls, the other folds.

Turn:

Jh

Both check.

River:

Kc

Now Nick bets 4500, at which point I'm sure Nick has a big hand and the other player dwells for a bit before eventually calling with Ks Ts - which is good. Intrigued as to what Nick had there...

Kyriacos Dionysiou (Greek! Also Jack!) raises to 2400 preflop, and Steve Fox immediately re-raises all in for another 3600. After some considerable consideration of his cards, Kyriacos passes his AJ. Steve claims he had AA, and "he should be calling me with that. Mind you, if he calls he'll probably hit, that's my luck..." PMA, Steve...

Cuong Trinh has doubled up, moving in with K-J on a J-9-5 board against pocket Sevens. He's on about 16k now.

Ash Hussain is OUT A-8 against pocket Fives. Board: K-Q-8-5-A

Paul Parker just knocked out the player to his left holding Ad Qs against Td 9c.

Flop:

Qd 7s 4s

Flushy, "Jack or Eight, make it interesting!!"

Turn:

3s

River:

5s

On a flop of  4s 3c 9c, Mazhar Nawab bets 2575, and Gary Chatterton goes all in for about 15k. There is much dwelling from Nawab. "You want to go all in? You sure?" he says. Gary, who is sitting back in his chair with his shades on, nods. "If I pass will you show?" "No," says Gary. He passes anyway - JJ. "Good pass," says Gary, and true to his word does not show his cards.

George 'WellChief' MacDonald is up to 67k. In a hand he described as 'a gift', another player check-raised all-in on a K-7-5 board (re-raised preflop), it was about 18k to call with 39k already in the pot. George made the call and found himself up against....8-9. No gutshot 6 and he's now most likely chip leader.

Now, where are those supportive Scots?

Mick Fletcher is on 22k, lost half his stack with Kings against Fives and with Nines against Kings. Expect to him to all the chips or none of them by the end of play.

Chris Bruce is going well, he's up to 47k.

Meanwhile Terry Nelson and Steve Higton get all-in preflop

All in preflop:

Terry: Ad Ahrt

Steve: Kh Ks

Terry slammed his cards down triumphantly, shouting "Come on!" which made me think he was tempting fate a little...

Board:

Jc 2d Kc 4s 4d

And having hit a two-outer in the first level, Nelson now goes out to a two-outer himself.

Here are some more borderline non-hands -

Board  8h 3d Ac Qh Qd - R Lee moves in; Mazhar Nawab folds. Boring.

Greg Amoils raises from the button; B Dong (who admittedly has a very fine name) moves in; Amoils folds and Dong (ahh ha ha ha) shows his AJ. Boring.

Greek Jack raises from the cutoff to 2600. B Dong (Ahhhhhhh ha ha haha!) reraises to 6600; Greek Jack folds. Boring.

Oh wait! An all-in with a caller! Steve Fox moves in preflop with  8c 9c and Son Hoang calls with  Aspades Kh. Board comes  Ts 5h 2h 7h and

wait for it...

8d! Thus doubling him up to maybe 12.5k.

AK v 99, 9 on the board and no kings or aces at all.

Nick Hicks has half-way between doubled and trebled up. Half-Quintupled?

One player limped. Kerry Taylor pushed for about 6k. Chris Bruce called. Nick Hicks pushed behind for another 6k and Chris called that too after the limper evitably got out of the way.

Kerry:

9s 9h

Chris:

Js Jh

Nick:

Qc Qh

Board:

Kc 4s 2d 6s 2h.

Nick has about 30k now.

Flushy is on 20,150.

They're on a break now; one level left to be played tonight.

Barry Update -

Barry Carter is on 2600. Barry Neville meanwhile said that he had slipped down to 2600 at one point after losing with AK four times in a row, but is back up to 52k now after finding KK.

John McNair -- 86.5k

Flushy has knocked out Paul Parker with K-Q against J-T but just had his 4.5k bet on a Ac Qh Js board check/raised to 20k by Richard Ashby and, though clearly frustrated, folded.

Ian Roberts calls the BB utg, only for Greg Hunt to move in for for 16050 more. Roberts eventually calls...

Greg Hunt -  Ad 8s

Ian Roberts -  Tc Th

Board -  3s 7d 4c 2d 6s

And Greg Hunt is OUT.

Om Aggarwal (now there's a great name) raises to 2100 - Gavin Priestley in the BB and Neil Downing both call.

Flop -  5c 8c Js - check round.

Turn -  Qd. Gavin checks and Neil bets 1000. Om raises to 4k - Gavin folds and Neil reluctantly calls.

River -  4c and Neil checks - Om goes to bet and Neil immediately folds. A disappointed Om shows his pocket jacks.

Thomas Dunwoodie raises preflop only for Wayne Blodwell (I heard someone say he was a donkey during one of the breaks, but that is only hearsay and we shall thus ignore it entirely) to move in. Dunwoodie dwells for what seems like absolutely forever, Blodwell staring down at the felt in a resolutely blank manner. I mean, he dwells FOREVER. And EVER.

No, not forever - eventually he folds his  Qc Qs face up. Which is very exciting. "I don't want to call for a 50/50," he says. Blodwell does not show AK, or any other hand for that matter.

Oooh, there is some ANIMOSITY brewing. The flop says  2c 2d Aspades, and Thomas Dunwoodie bets 4k. Wayne Blodwell calls.

Turn -  7c and Dunwoodie bets another 4k. Blodwell is now cowed though - he folds, and Dunwoodie throws down his  Ahrt Qh with genuine hatred in his eyes. Blodwell doesn't seem to care.

Matt Tyler -- 33k "There's so much limping and then calling of big raises, it's like a £50 rebuy..."

I think there's roughly 47 players remaining, including Flushy, Matt Tyler, WellChief, Greek Jack, Mick McCool, Mick Fletcher. We got kicked out as they began the laborious process of bagging up. Chip counts will appear later tonight or early tomorrow morning and we'll be back again for 4pm for the start of Day 1B.
