Title: Poker 425 - RIP. And Welcome to Poker Week!
Post by: tikay on April 19, 2007, 10:33:27 PM
As you know, Poker 425 ended last October, when Channel 425 ceased to be.

I had 18 very happy months with 425, & we went just about everywhere, & interviewed everyone, from regular guys in local venues, to World Champions in Vegas. (I recall interviewing Doyle Brunson, Chris Moneymaker & Greg Raymer - all in one day!). But we had the most fun - by far - on the Domestic Circuit, where the 425 Team graduallly became quite well-known & respected. (Yours truly apart....).

I am delighted to say that the old Poker 425 Team are back together again. Rhow, Gouldy, Compo, myself, a bunch of interesting "new" faces, and Steve "wormster" as Producer, Billy as Lead Cameraman, all headed up by Clive Lawrence. My role will be as before, until & unless I get rumbled, and I have committed contractually to them for 2 days a week for the rest of 2007.

The show will be called "Poker Week". It will be recorded once a week, & air first on Thursday nights on Sky Sports, & repeated 3 times on Fridays on Sky Sports. It will then show for 5 straight nights on Sky Poker, at around 8pm I believe.

The new sponsors are.....Sky Poker. There will be a Poker Week website attached to the Sky Sports Website, & I have already penned a piece for them which will appear next week.

The show format will be a little different, & much better, we hope. We will go to Venues every week, record what we think you'll find interesting - characters, faces, regular guys - all in a light-hearted & upbeat vein. The "Anchorman-Pundit" sequences will all be shot on location, not in the studio.

The rest of the show will be given over to poker tuition, strategy, that sort of thing, for which some interesting folks have already filmed footage, including Kara Scott, Casper Berry & Mark Prince Charles Banin, plus some interesting guests.

As to the Venue side of things, the Edinburgh APAT was our first Venue (together with some Monte Carlo footage with Rhow), & our next venue will be Luton, where a certain bB4 is taking place, attended by, amongst others, several Sky Poker Suits....

All of May's Venues are already secured, we are working on June already, & we have a good variety of Tourneys lined up.

The first show airs on Thursday of next week.

More details as to channels & times to follow.

I think there is a market for a Poker Magazine Show, & we hope that Poker Week will fill the bill nicely.

Happy days!

sounds exciting. I always liked the old 425 stuff, some of the presenters gave it real professionalism. I maybe right in thinking that with sky behind it, the production standards can really only go up, which is good news for the viewers.

Tikay on mainstream telly, whatever next. Ainsley Harriott better watch out.

Excellent news :)  I was thinking the other day about Poker 425 and how I was quite missing it.   It's about time we had a decent poker program that keeps us up to date with goings on on again.

All the best with it guys and I look forward to being interviewed for winning bB4 :D

I used to really like poker 425, even though I am a really bad poker player with a tiny er...... bankroll, I still somehow felt connected to the mainstream of poker in the country through watching it.  Great news that a new proggy with a similar content is on the way!

We have asked for permission to cover it, but that's all I can say right now. "We hope so" is the answer, I guess. The other May Venues are all signed up.

its same price as normall sky and for £10 extra you can get sky in another room too on the same subscription (we were paying 2 subs in house for about £100) now we have 2 sky and 1 sky+ box for about £70 i might get rid of movies though they have cheated me out of about 30 movies a day since the switch over to the new organsied channels

Always worth contacting them and seeing what deal you can get.

A month ago a friend contacted Sky to try and get re-connected after a year...... he couldn't afford it and stop paying owing them £80 odd . They offered to cancel what was owed if he "signed up" again, which he did.

Doubt if that was a Sky offer more like a dodgy sales person if you ask me... :dontask:

Why?

The marginal cost of providing the service to one more person who already owns the kit with a viewing card is close enough to zero for it to actually be zero as far as Sky are concerned (they probably just to have tick a box or two on a screen). The ongoing marginal cost of providing the service is similarly zero, making it hardly worth the cost involved in trying to recover a month or two's unpaid charges.

If they can get you re-subscribed and get three month's subscription out of you then they're in a revenue positive situation. It's a no-brainer for them.

maybe a wild stab in the dark but i do work for them and we have over the past year tried to move away from offering all sorts in order to inflate the subscriber numbers. The marginal cost is minimal but when you consider the additional costs of a customer who will likely be in the bad debt cycle (calls into call centre to get viewing switched back on, letters informing of debt) then it doesn't look as worthwhile plus the loyal customers get narked as they become aware of people trying to play the system..

you will also be getting a phone call shortly advising you of a one off special offer only for you of 3 less channels for an additional £20 a month, sounds fair to me really........ ;D

nosey-p  Tip for getting Sky plus for nowt.

Phone them up and tell them you are going to reduce your packages.  get rid of sports or movies.

Mention you might cancel altogether

They will start trying to persuade you to stay.  Eventually a supervisor will offer you sky plus installation for free

Worked for me and at least 2 others in my local!!!
