Title: Has anyone been to Tallin, Estonia lately ?
Post by: Karabiner on April 20, 2007, 11:21:31 AM
They have a small festival  stating on May 1st, and I'd love to get some feedback about previous events there

Do they get many runners ? How is the hotel ? Are there decent cash-games ?

How is the food ? Is the norkage up to scratch ? Etc.......

Thanks in advance.

I played in their festival in Nov last year and was going to this May event but can't due to various business commitments. The venue is quite small but well run. The main event had 80ish runners and the side events 110 plus. The main event had lot's of play, deepstacked (10,000 starting chips) and had a reasonably slow clock. Loads of scandies with many of them online qualifies via Nordic poker. As for Brits there was only myself and Dan Samson there but I understand Poker Heaven are planning to send over a dozen or so players.

Re: the hotel attracted to the casino, the Park Reveal, I didn't stay their but I was told it was not particularly nice. I stayed at the Olumpia Reveal hotel which was about a 5 to 10 walk or £3 to £4 taxi ride. The guys staying at the Park said they wished they had stayed at the Olumpia, much better facilities, restaurant/s were far nicer and I stayed on the 19th floor which had the most amazing view of the whole city and harbour.

Norkage was good but not as good as in Riga. However compared to Romford it's amazing.  ;kev;. Go clubbing and I'm sure you find plenty to keep you entertained.

Re: cash games it wasn't the greatest as it was normally full of scandie mates having a "I got bigger balls than you" comp against friends with some of the most ridiculous play that can only be matched by the play in my local dodgy snooker clubs. Moves like the £100 pre flop raise into a £2 pot and also the standard look at my great bluff play with 23os.

I would recommend it and I plan to go to the next one in Aug.

There's a Scottish raiding party heading over for the May festival including myself and ScotlandStu.  hmmm we are staying at the reval park - the revals in riga and vilnius were ok, so I thought this one would be as well....

Looks like there will be a fair turnout for the main event with 110 already registered.

The reval Park is nothing like as good as the reval in Latvia. The reveal Olumpia however is.

I did like the top floor bar in the reval in Latvia. The Olumpia has a swimming pool and saunas on it's top floor. For about 30euros you can get a private sauna that has an amazing view of the city.

NB: you don't need to show any idea for the smaller comps but you do if your playing the main event. They have some rule about ID only required for comp over £600ish pounds but any smaller comps you don't even need to join the casino.

Thanks for all the inside information The Diceman, very helpful indeed.

Just one more question, where is the nearest airport and who does the best flights ?

EasyJet. The airport is just outside outskirts of Tallinn and think cost about £7. Flights are something like £35 to £45 per flight.

Just got back from Tallin 30 mins ago (was there on a mate's stag party). Absolutely loved the place. Too tired to write much more now, so will answer some of the questions above later/tomorrow.... One great thing we did manage to do, was break the bank in one of the 47 casinos there lol :D
