Title: Manchester GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance
Post by: NoflopsHomer on April 20, 2007, 01:33:46 PM
:hello: and welcome back for the second Day 1 at the very stylish G Casino in Manchester. Once again play will begin at 4pm, people playing today include Thewy, Dewi and (fingers crossed) someone called Louie too.

This is the bare bones updating thread, to ask for players' chip counts and questions, please go to the interactive thread.

It's a random draw but todays field looks stronger since it includes:

Thewy
The Camel
'Six Levels' Rumit. (No longer 1-hand)
Thewy
Praz Bansi
Karl Marenholz
Iwan Jones
Dpommo
Dubai
Stuart Rutter
Vicky Coren
El Blondie
Chilli
Micky Wernick

The seats have been drawn and we are about to start.

155 players playing today, and they've just begun.

Camel and Karl Marenholz sitting next to each other, as are Dpommo and Vicky Coren. Dana is off getting pictures which you can only see on the interactive thread if you're a member.

Two out already.

CK Le bet 700 on a Q-T-6 board and was called, he bet again on the Jack turn and then 2.5k on the blank river, at which point his opponent, Andy Bradshaw moved all-in and Le called quickly with A-K. Bradshaw mucked but Micky Wernick said he saw a Six so I'm guessing he had trip sixes.

Also out is the fabulously named Mark Yaffe. He was holding A-A on a T-7-7 flop, must've been re-raised because there were two opponents holding K-K and T-T. The kings managed to escape but Mark's Aces couldn't get away.

Tales of Dubai Section:

First he loses a whole chunk after there's a limper on the button, Dave makes it 275 from the small blind with A-A, the limper makes it 1,275 with about 6k behind, Dave calls. J-9-7 flop and Dave runs into a set of Sevens. Shortly after, against the same guy i think, he doubles back up with a set against 2nd pair and a gutshot. Then I saw him pushing again on an 8c 5s 5c board against the same player's 2k bet, getting him to fold.

I just saw Marty Wilson pass pocket queens to a big bet on the random river of a random board, and get quite upset when the bettor showed his un-hitting pocket sevens.

An all-in on Table Colclough - Player 1505 holding AK and Player 1502 (seating plan arriving within 10 minutes says our friend Mr Raab) on an A - Q - A - Q - 8 board, for a slightly disappointing split. Only ran over there because there was lots of oooh-ing and rising from seats.

Dewi Pint Watch:

"Five."

Chilli, "Up to 14k, down to 12k."

El Blondie -- 9,975 "I'm slowly being blinded away." (Did just take down a pot betting 500 on a 2h 4s 3d board though).

Paul Rigg just won a chunk-o-rific pot. He bet 1500 on a Ahrt 5d 4s board, 3500 on the Ks turn and 4500 on the 4h river getting called on every street, his opponent mucked when Paul showed 5h 4c.

Rumit checks a flop of  7h 4d Ts. Eddie Lundon bets 300, Hoss Parhizkar calls and Rumit folds.

Turn -  Kc - Eddie bets 700 and Hoss (oh how I love that name) calls.

River -  8d and Eddie bets 1200. After some dwelling, Hoss raises to 3000 (ride 'em, cowboy!). Eddie calls, and his  Tc 8s is good against Hoss'  Jc 7c. Hoss starts to giggle like he's just got off a rollercoaster, the big loopy kind that leaves you kind of punch-drunk afterwards.

Nicky Romanello is OUT, he was short with about 2.5k and lost to Vicky Coren's nut-flush.

Jon Farrer and Rumit in the blinds both check a  Ks Kd Kh flop, and then the  7c turn. River comes  Qd and Jon Farrer bets 250. Rumit folds. It's all very good-natured, there's lots of pleasant laughing camaraderie here.

Rudders -- 13k
Iwan Jones -- 10k hit a set of 4's against K-T and then had K-9 on a K-K-6 board when Q-J decided to push

Vincent Birt is comfortably above 20k, he just bet 1.7k on the river of an Ahrt Kc 6c 5s 8d board, getting his opponent to fold.

Seems a bit less good-natured on Table Karl/Camel. On a  6d 3d Qs 5h Jc board, Alex Mah bets 2000. Karoly Kiss (oh yes...) says "you missed, huh?" and calls. He then mucks to Mah's  9h 9d. He is definitely not in a good mood. In fact, the very next hand he raises to 400 utg, only for John Conroy to reraise to 1200 and Ba Aghatabay to call. Kiss (ho ho ho), finding himself horribly horribly short, has no choice but to call all-in. The  Ac 2h Jh Td 9s board is checked down.  Ba shows pocket queens, John Conroy shows pocket tens for the set and Kiss mucks and is OUT. There, there. Maybe one of the soon-to-arrive massage girls will Kiss it better.

Maria - 12.8k
Julian - 8.4k (he ran into a set in the 2nd hand)
Bo Le - 11.7k

El Blondie bets 600 on a  7d 8d 3s flop and finds a call in James Reid.

Turn -  Ad - Dave checks, James checks.

River -  Aspades - Dave bets 1300 and James calls.

Dave shows his Ahrt 8h full house and James shows his  9d Td not-a-straight-flush. El Blondie's on about 14.5k now.

Julian just lost a chunk holding Qd Jd on a Kh 3s Qs 5c Qh board, his opponents' Kc Ks scooping.

Reyaz Mulla and EPT Grand Finalist Steve Jelinek are both OUT.

Oh, so very unfortunate. The board is  3c Jc 5d Js and Mateyboy goes all-in for not very much; Maria calls instantly. Mateyboy turns over  Jh Tc; Maria turns over her superior  Jd Qc. But oh dreadful!  Td on the river and Matey doubles up. Sick. Sick, sick sick. Matey has since self-destructed and disappeared...

It's all gone Wong for Ryan Fronda.

Fronda:

Ad Ac

Richard Wong:

Kc Ks

Kh on the river leaving Fronda with about 3k left.

Sam Wan has 13k.

Iwan Jones is OUT, runner-runner flushed by Alan Davies.

Dewi's short now, on about 4k with the blinds now 100/200. "Um, I lost a few. At least tikay was wrong about me, he said I'd only last an hour and I lasted 2."

Three-way all in on Table Chili!

On a  Td 2c 2d flop, Mateyboy already all in, David Pomray (is that dpommo? It is, isn't it?) goes all in for 11k, and Paul Rigg calls.

Mateyboy -  4d 4h

Probably Pommo -  3d Jd

Paul Rigg -  2s 4s

No diamonds or any other improvement for anyone and Mateyboy and Pomray are OUT.

On an  Ahrt Qc Aspades flop, David Copus bets 700. Mark Robinson, who I thought was a character in Neighbours but never was, raises another 2000. David Copus reraises another 8k or so, and Robinson fairly swiftly folds. He's now pretty short on around 4k. Joey Lovelady (my favourite name so far today) says to Copus, "You didn't have an ace, did you?" Copus - "Er, no."

Found Chili smoking a cigarette. She's doing fine on 14k, but keeps having those upsetting moments when you fold your rubbish before the flop, only to see that you would have hit spectacularly. One particularly sad hand, she called a raise with 6 - 8; Vicky Coren re-raised and she folded. The flop came 6 - 8 - 10, and the turn another 6. The chips flew in, Vicky holding pocket queens and someone else holding another overpair. Maria would have take them both out, which would have made her happy, but she didn't and she's not. "You can't call a re-re-raise [I guess there was more raising than Vicky's preflop] with 6 - 8. Oh well, back to work..."

Praz was circumspect about his exit, "Didn't hit anything really today, played my last hand pretty badly." He's now contemplating an express trip to Vegas to play the WPT  main event.

Pedro Ramos is OUT and a bit grumpy. Neil Channing folded on the river to Kayfhen Muthy's bet on a board of 4d 8d Ahrt 3d 5s. Ramos wasn't happy to see his 8c 8s outdrawn by the 7d 5d of Muthy.

Ian Nelson has doubled up with A-9 against A-J.

Dewi is OUT. With ACES. And courtesy of crosscourt. Dewi raised with his aces, crosscourt called. Flop 9 - J - K, and Dewi moved in; crosscourt called with AQ and hit his ten on the river. "I knew I was gonna lose," said Dewi. "But I'm not botherrrrrrred." He has a brand new pint of Guinness, and is looking pretty pleased with himself.

Rudders pushes Jac Arama off Kings news now.

Having limped called a raise with T-8, Rudders check-raised Jac Arama's 1k bet to 3k before pushing on the turn of a T-9-7 board getting his opponent to fold. "I thought he had an overpair, but I knew he was good enough to lay it down."

Paul Rigg raises to 800 and Vicky Coren calls from the button.

Flop -  7c Aspades 4c Vicky bets 1000, Paul calls.

Turn -  Qd and they both check.

River -  8h Paul checks and Vicky very briefly thinks about betting before announcing, "Nah, you've got a pair of kings." Paul duly turns over his KK and she shows her 55.

Mark Jones raises to 900; Tien Van Le and Vincent Birt call. Ryan Fronda re-raises all in for not very many chips. Mark re-re-raises all in. Tien folds pretty quickly; Vincent Birt spends some time dwelling over the  Tc Ts I accidentally may have seen over his shoulder before folding.

Ryan Fronda -  8d 8h

Mark Jones -  Jd Jc

Board -  Qc 5s Ks 8s Kc

Ryan Fronda is a very fortunate young man, and is now slightly less short than he was before.

Vincent Birt please?

Just taken a hit, he bet 2k on a 4c Tc 5s Kh board only to find Mark Jones check/raise all-in for 9.5k more, he seemed to dwell for a while, unnecessarily so when I saw he was holding Td Ts but soon called, Jones showed Kc Jc.

River:

2c.

Incidentally, "One Hand Rumit" is now on the way to becoming "Level Six Rumit" which makes him sound like a D&D character.

Will he gather enough experience to level up?

Nick Slade lost a 20k pot to El Blondie with Queens, he said he was convinced Dave had Aces or Kings. He did just scoop a pot with A-9 on an A-9-A-3-T board though.

Jim Reid has doubled through with 6-6 against Jac Arama's A-8 on a 2-3-4-5-K board.

On a board of  Qd 5d 6s 6h, Richard Mackay and Tariq Arees both check.

River -  Kd

Richard checks, and Tariq bets 2200.

Richard ponders for a moment before muttering "This is RIDICULOUS" to no-one in particular, folding, and wandering off. Tariq shows his pocket eights, and announces to the table, "I tell you, he had jacks!"

With the flop  Th 8h Qc, Richard Wong bets 725, and Steve Bovis calls.

Turn -  Aspades and they both check

River -  Qd and Wong (I like that name and I don't know why) bets 1025 (he likes those funny-sized bets does he). Bovis calls.

Bovis -  Ad Jh

Wong -  Qh Kh

Bovis was Wong to call that last bet...  ;hide;

Jim Reid and Dave Penley are both OUT.

Balvinder Nijjar has doubled up against Sam Wan with Th 9d against 5c 5h.

Board:

Qd 4h Qd Ac Tc

El Blondie has just busted out Leo McCarthy with Aces against Queens, Sunny Chattha, sitting in between managed to get away from his Ace King in this hand. DC now has about 29k which is about twice the average.

He doubled up with errm... J-7 against A-Q, first card was a Queen, second was a Jack, but the turn and river were both Sevens.

Chilli has 10k and is "waiting for a spot."

Stuart Nash is OUT, A-4 against A-J.

"6 levels Rumit" has 45k now, he's really changed gears. Probably because Snoopy isn't around to bokk him... ::)

Soxy has also doubled through against Hoss Parhizkar with 2s 2c against Td Ts on a 9c 2h 6h 5d 8h board, all the money going in on the flop.

Nik has about 6.5k, but he also has quite a large stack of £25 cash chips on the table, presumably for threatening effect.

Turn -  Kd - Dave bets 3k, Brockett calls.

River -  Qs - Dave cautiously checks, and the folds to Brockett's 3k bet. Says Brockett - "I have a straight. And a flush," and turns over  Aspades Jc.

Tien - Ac Qs

Turn -  Js

Vicky Coren is kind of short and thus open to bullying. She raised to 3.5k preflop, only for Karl Mahrenholz on her right to reraise another 10k or so, covering her. After a minute or two of impressive nervous chiprobatics, she folded. She's now down to less than 6k.

Willie Tann is motoring on, he has around 46k now. He bet about 4.5k on the river of a 8s Ad Qs Qd 3s board getting Anthony Nicholls to call who mucked once they saw Willie's Ts 7s.

Channing has taken a very massive hit. Ian Herbert raises pre-flop to 3.5k; Channing reraises him all in - about 18k.

Channing -  Aspades Kc

Herbert -  Kh Ks

Board -  Jd 4c Js 5s 6d

Channing is very angry and wanders off. He's down to about 15k.

Big Trevor Reardon has doubled with Kh Ks against Jon Farrer's Qd Qc. The board coming an unthreatening 5h 3d 2h Ts 3s.

Elsewhere, slight histrionics after Neil Channing made a small raise from the cut-off, Anthony Nicholls re-raised from the small blind. Ian Woodley in the big blind, turned to the dealer and said, "One time, one time!" He then looked at his cards and gestured, "the farm." Neil passed, and after a bit of dwelling in front of a growing crowd Nicholls passed Ahrt Jh, Woodley showed Ac Qh. After all that, I was left with a sense of disappointment that with such a crowd, bigger hands weren't shown. I haven't been this underwhelmed since I saw Clerks 2.

DC update please

Dave just limped utg, a tad suspicious with the blinds and antes as they are, a couple more limpers, and the blinds made up.

Flop:

Kc 6c 5c

All check, I'm now thinking Dave has Ac Kx or Ac Ax.

Turn:

Tc

Everyone checks again to Warren Woolridge who makes a stealy-esque 4k bet. Only Dave calls.

River:

7c

Now Dave bets 5k and Warren eventually mucks, Dave flashes what looked like Ad Ac to me. I think he's on between 35k and 40k now.

Channing raises to 2225; Anthony Nichols and Ian Herbert call.

Flop -  5s Js 9h

Nichols bets 6k, and Herbert moves in for about 30k. They both fold. As Ian Herbert's raking in his mountain of chips, Nichols says, "He had jacks. I folded a set of nines." Ian Woodley shouts in my general direction, "he passed a set of nines! Make sure you get thaat! He passed a set of nines." Ian Herbert is nodding most earnestly. PASSED SET OF NINES, I dutifully write down. "Not really," says Ian HERBERT. PASSED SET OF NINES Laughter all round. Hilarious.

To clarify, Ian Herbert did NOT pass a set of nines.

CK Le is OUT  he had Qd Qh against Craig Owen's Jh Jc but the Jd turned up on the flop and Le disappeared into the night littering the casino with a torrent of expletives.

The Camel is OUT, he's at the bar with Flushy. Tough break. (I mean being out, not being stuck at the bar with Flushy...Oh hang on...;))

David Clark has doubled through with Kh Qh against Ian Herbert's 8c 8s, hitting a King on the flop.

Jon Farrer has knocked out Stephen Pritchard with Ace King against Sixes. King on the flop.

chipcounts please

Chips are flying thick and fast now and there's only 15 minutes to go. So there isn't much point until we get the final official count. I can tell you that Rumit, Karl Mahrenholz and Mick McCloskey are the biggest stacks remaining.

Stuart Rutter has trebled up to 24k with Aces, and in the running for climber of the day, but he faces stiff competition from Ryan Fronda who had just 1,400 earlier but now sits with about 25k.

Steve Bovis just doubled up with Ac Qd against Tien Van le's Kd Kc on a 7c Ad 2c Jh 9c board. Van le exited shortly afterwards.

Vicky Coren has also just doubled up against Warren Woolridge. She pushed with Ahrt 8h and he called with 8c 8s.

Flop:

Th Jh Qc (Gazillions of outs)

Turn:

Ks (That's all she needed)

River:

4d

Finally, Rudders has doubled up back to back with Ace King twice in a row, first beating Martyn Cavanagh's 9-5 and then knocking out a short stack's 6-6. He also, whilst short, still had time to pass pocket tens in the big blind.

Best get here on time, I suspect there maybe carnage in the first two levels involving many of the shorter and medium stacks...
