Post by: Rod Paradise on October 06, 2005, 04:46:16 PM Lucky bugger - the only one I can get that'll work at my folk's is the Orange one & it's going to cost £150 unless I can bully them into giving me it as an upgrade instead of me upgrading my current phone......
Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on October 06, 2005, 08:53:20 PM I bought a Vodafone one last weekend. Still waiting for my first connection. Just exchanged the "possibly faulty" card tonight!

Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: Bongo on October 06, 2005, 09:19:15 PM While i remember - you need to be sure you're PC has no virus/spyware infections if you use one of these cards; otherwise you may get a huge bill for all the data they use...
Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: RED-DOG on October 06, 2005, 09:23:14 PM I got the Vodafone one
Bongo, as I understand it, you can monitor how much yu are downloading Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on October 06, 2005, 11:42:53 PM Just managed a painfully slow GPRS connection and loaded up 2 web pages out of about 15 I tried (Blonde not being one of them).
I consider this to be progress! Sheriff Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on October 07, 2005, 05:32:53 PM Now fully up and running on both GPRS and 3G. GPRS is similar to dial-up speed. 3G seemed very quick and comparable to Broadband!
It looks like it'll suit my purposes well so I'd recommend it based on my limited use so far! Sheriff Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: Rod Paradise on October 07, 2005, 11:26:59 PM Cheers Sherrif - now to see if I can whinge one out of Orange in exchange for not upgrading my handset.....
Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: doubleup on October 08, 2005, 11:34:06 AM Just got this from Pokerstars when I asked how much data was transferred playing online:
The amount of traffic sent to and from the client depends on many factors, including how busy the site is, and whether you keep the main lobby or tournament lobby open (doing so increases traffic). Once you're in a game with all lobby windows minimized, a game will average about 10 k download per minute, and 5 k upload. This can vary with the speed of the game. Each return visit to the main lobby (and opening the software for the first time) will result in a burst download of about 300 KB, and 25 KB uploaded. I hope this has answered your question completely. Please do not hesitate to let us know any time you need anything. Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? I am not 100% sure but i guess it would have something to do with doubling 2>4>8>16>32>64>128>256>512>1024 Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: tikay on October 08, 2005, 02:49:50 PM Or dodgy maths. (Doubling......"128 - 356 - 512".....). What DO they teach in schools these days? Not like that in my day. Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one? Post by: ifm on October 08, 2005, 02:53:19 PM it's cuz of the binary conversion, 'puters use a binary code system:-
The nearest binary number to 1,000 is 2^10 or 1,024; thus 1,024 bytes was named a Kilobyte. So, although a metric "kilo" equals 1,000 (e.g. one kilogram = 1,000 grams), a binary "Kilo" equals 1,024 (e.g. one Kilobyte = 1,024 bytes) Hope this clears it up lol Title: Re: 3g wireless PC Connection - did anyone get one?
