Title: Re: Happy St George's Day... Post by: lazaroonie on April 23, 2007, 11:41:40 AM Just got back from Barcelona, where the Patron Saint of Catalonia is St George (Jordi).
They are really gearing up for a big celebration. Title: Re: Happy St George's Day... Post by: AndrewT on April 23, 2007, 12:08:12 PM Don't know why we celebrate St George anyway - a foreigner who never set foot in this country who was championed after the Norman conquest to eradicate the celebration of St Edmund, the previous (and some would say true) patron saint of England, who was actually King of East Anglia. Also, he was actually German, which is a tradition which continues with our royal family to this day.
