Title: I've got the blues
Post by: RED-DOG on October 06, 2005, 08:41:54 PM
I play poker online for many hours most days, it can be a grind but this forum keeps me sane, its somewhere to go and have a chat with my mates, it informs me and entertains me

Blonde is growing at a phenomenal rate, but that growth comes at a price, no longer are we the close knit little hamlet we once were, we are becoming a city

Cities have many advantages, they have a great diversity of inhabitants with many and varied talents, they can provide access to more facilities and the powers that be have to take more notice when the people of a city unite for a common cause

The downside is, cities need more policing, especially if we want to maintain the same values we enjoyed when we were a sleepy hamlet

We all see tikay as the founder member of  Blondepoker, I know it is a collaboration between him and Dave El Blondie Colclough, but tikay was the public face, the citizens advice, the press agent, the diplomat and the local bobby, but as the forum has grown bigger, superstardom has tapped him on the shoulder and the time he has available has grown shorter, the upshot was, he asked a few of us to become moderators

I am now a moderator; I have some fancy blue stars and a posh title

I am willing to do whatever I can to help out but I have to confess, I don’t like it, this has been the first day on blonde that I haven’t enjoyed

Being a moderator hasn’t improved my IQ, I am no taller, stronger, holier or wiser than I was before, I just feel a greater responsibility to try to do the right thing, although most of the time I know that will be impossible, as don’t know what the right thing is, it’s a case of dammed if you do, and dammed if you don’t

What I’m really trying to say is, when the moderators get it wrong, please try to cut us some slack, if we do the wrong thing, it is for the right reasons

I owe Blonde and it’s members a debt of gratitude, you have been there for me when I needed someone and I wouldn’t upset any one of you for all the blue stars and fancy titles in the world

I've stickied this...power crazy you see!!   ;D

Tom has a fantastic way of saying things which I won't even try to emulate. Except to say I agree with every word

Behind the scenes there is an awful lot of work going on to establish how we are going to work together as a team, what we should and shouldn't do, what we should do in certain situations etc. It's taking over a terrific amount of our time, which is fine, because this place deserves it

Bear with us, there will be growing pains and mistakes. There are many more different voices and different opinions on here than even three months ago. We have all seen how this creates challenges. However rest assured that we all love being here, we all have the best interests of all of you at heart and we'll get there

Cheers

TE

I really can't add anything to that.

The right words at the right time, as per usual.

chin up.

Excellent posts, I fully understand how you feel , however I do not believe this should stop you enjoying your time on the forum, if everyone who posts on here does so with respect to other members there should be no problem, if you as moderators have to intervene it will not be beacuse of your faults but because of others.

I for one offer you my full support   :)up

Well for what its worth I think you (The Blue Stars) should be proud.
I know Mr K will always be seen as the Founder but from what I can see you guys have been chosen because you are the Heartbeat of this place.  You have built it, helped it grow and between you all have helped and advised me and others.  I am sure there will be ups and downs but you are all strong enough and have enough belief in your views and opinions that it will all work out.
Keep the faith, follow your heads and enjoy it - I have the feeling you are about to witness and be a major part of something wonderful.
This is a competitive game and yet you help us, let us know your secrets and give us professional insights that others would charge for.  The Blonde community should be proud for what they have built and I for one feel it is safe in your hands.

amazing how things can change so quickly, sometimes a seemingly insignificant event happens that effects how you look at things from that point on.

Thx for the support chaps.

On a personal note, I live and breathe this game and have done so for the last 3 or 4 years. It is an honour and a privelage to be given the role of moderator and I will do whatever I can to make this site a better place.

As RED said, we are not perfect, but we would do pretty much anything to aid Blonde. We have spent many a joyeous hour on here and owe the place a hell of a lot. Keeping an eye on things and trying to keep the peace is the very least we can offer in return.

Just remember, this site is a gift.  It's free, it's fun, and it's got some cracking members. I don't know many other forums on the Internet that can boast such a terrific community spirit. Everyone give yourself a big firm pat on the back.   :)

Of course, we will hit the odd obstacle, but these are worth overcoming to maintain what we have here. People will always disagree, but as long as we keep our debates flame free, there shouldn't be too many problems.

Happy faces and enjoy.  ;D ;D ;D

the snopster

(I'll sign myself off by my INCORRECT name just this once  ;))

whilst we are on the subject, who is the admin 'Agon' ?? Is this just a backup for tikay or something?

Red when i think of blondepoker, after Tikay comes the likes of you, TE, Kev, Snoop et al.

I feel i have started to carve out my own corner on blonde but you guys deffo are the soul!!

Last couple of days things have gone a bit 'odd' and i have found myself slipping. I have posted a few posts in the last few days that i wouldnt have done a month ago, i think this is down to a changing mode on Blonde. However i vow not to let this affect me again and i will keep my posts in the same vain as the 'legends of blonde'

Ok my turn.

Funny thing I didn't want to post on this thread at first in case it looked like a Mods corner. A couple of time, since those stars appeared, I have thought twice about posting in threads, it is not easy. Not sure I like it yet but will get back in the swing of things. Thanks for the understanding peeps, Blonde is very important to me, it has changed a lot recently and I am just desperate to se it keep it's family astmosphere. I have to say that I have met people here I admire who I would never have met elsewhere. Oh and my poker has improved.  ::)

Hello all :)

I know I am late in posting here, but in my defence, I went to bed at 8pm with a temp of 102, just woke up - and I have to see what is going on on the forum!

I'm just a young whippersnapper on these boards, and don't really think I deserve to be a moderator - but I am, and I am going to do my damndest to do the best job I can.

We are going to feck up from time to time, and I will apologise in advance for that!

But we have the best interests of the place at heart - I promise you that :)

Heid

Keep up the good work everyone, but I agree with M Power. The blue stars should go. U can easily still be moderators with yellow stars like the rest of us.

I may just be a selfish person but if somone is making money from something i am spending my time regulating, developing and policing (aswell as adding some funny as posts ;D) then i would want some sort of renummeration for my efforts.

I've taken a great deal of pleasure from the forum, and the people involved have helped me many times without thought of payment, I don't mind trying to give a little back

It would be a sad world where people only measured the worth of their actions in financial terms

Mr Mouth,

I ain't getting a penny, indeed the thought hadn't even crossed my mind til you mentioned it. Then again, I'm a multi millionaire several times over *, so frankly it would be taking the piss to ask for a stipend

yes of course Blonde has to pay its way, the owners aren't a bottomless pit but I personally don't think the place is overly commercial. Anyway, I'm not privy to the financials

I think tikay is intending to post on the subjects of moderators and Tony G.

I personally don't like the use of the word "puppets" to describe the members as some pawns in a giant money making scheme. Knowing tikay as I do, that really is way off the mark

but of course there are live updates to pay for, server fees, some wages etc.....it could be worse....the decision might have been taken some time ago to charge a subscription (I don't know if it was discussed)...this would have been an alternative business model. You have to chose your poison as an owner I suppose!

* in monopoly money ;)

As far as I am concerned you guys SHOULD have the blue stars and people should be happy about the fantastic choices for the moderator positions.

Not only have these members been here a while but they are flame free, they talk sense and there isn't one of them that hasn't written a thoughtful/insightful/funny as fook post at some point or other.

These people ADD to our forum and if they do stand out a little more with their blue stars then so be it! :)up

Couldn't agree more.  :)up

Itis inevitable that a great little forum with a community feel and a sprinkling of pro's offering free advice will explode in numbers at some point.  When it does it's feel will change and some of it's original members may move away or only visit rarely.  This is the price of evolution and I think the best option is the one taken.  The chosen mod's all have devoted a vast amount of time pre modship (if thats a real word..lol) to make this forum a nice, witty, funny flame free place to visit.  Who better to try to keep it that way?

Their new roles are similar to police.  A lot of people criticise the police but without them we'd probably all have to move away and not come back ever.  We don't want that with blonde now do we?

Best of luck to the mods. :D

Re Finance... I'm involved (in a small way) in a very large football (Celtic) forum & it does cost....

There, to cover the costs, people can purchase 'Super-membership' for £20 a time & are allowed to edit posts, post polls, attach signatures & avatars.... all of which are freely available here. The Super-member concept really annoys some though.

That forum has a few thousand members & has had offers of money for banners/advertising etc, but since we fund it (and a lot of charity fundraising) out of our own pockets we resisted anything that might affect the independance of the forum. But that is for people who support a team.

Blonde is something different - it's an unselfish, helpful forum for a game where being selfish & taking all you can off the other guy is the main aim in the end, this is amazing to me. Since all users will play online at some point anyway, I see nothing wrong with afilliate links & sponsored tourneys - as long as they are explained first, that help fund a valuable resource to us players (small time like me, or the professionals).

There is a chance that their involvement in this site will help Tikay or El Blondie with sponsorship or employment chances in the future.... but I think it's their abilities that will tell more. If having the 'ear' of 1500/2000 whatever Blondeites clinches a deal for either of the  guys, then good - we've helped one of our own, it'd be small recompense for the work they've put in to provide the forum what we've got.

Moderators - thankless task generally (I'm a  moderator on 2 different fora - including a German one  :-\) - but needed, so thanks.

PS Blue's a horrible colour - any chance of making the stars green? Or even better - green shamrocks   ;) ;D

Tikay - Cardroom manager
Moderators- Cardroom Supervisors (keep the blue stars BTW you have earned them
Hero members- The dealers
The rest of us are punters
Some good some bad, the bad ones get barred the rest are treated with respect and are listened to regardless of opinions, doesn't mean anythings gonna change but listened too none the less. Some good points are taken further.

We ALL love poker and thats our common denominator

Similarities between Forum and a Cardroom
(I am proud of my cardroom and Tikay proud of his forum)

Do go, i went Monday for (i think) the 4th time, very very nice.
Actually a very slow structure (don't remember it but i seemed slow......Richard??), i did quite well again though self destructed for no reason at all ???
Strange, i got loads of abuse off my pal/driver on the way home, i realised the next day it was pure fatigue though (note to self.........sleep you moron!)
Anyway £180 for 8th!!! the most elsewhere for 8th is around your buyin back, so a good payout structure.
Excellent dealers/service, i would moan about the price of alcohol but i've had 2 free meals in the resaurant (excellent BTW) this week!!
