Agreed, a sad day. Whilst everyone else chose to be Georgie Best when playing football as a youngster, I always chose to be Alan Ball. Loved the way he played the game, no nonsense and with some skill.

 I remember years ago meeting Alan Ball in a pub in Ireland after a Pro-Am golf tournament.

 he was standing by our table talking to someone and my aunt said to him '' i know who you are! your that famous footballer.''

 and just as his pigeon chest expanded , she said '' your Jimmy Nicholl arent you ! '' he wasnt best pleased but he was good company and in good humour after that initial introduction  rotflmfao

 rest in peace wee fella

Saw him give Gerrard the Player of the Year award last season and he looked very good for 60.

A terrible shock.

Great player, nice guy.

Sad news. Have to be honest in that as a City fan I had mixed views on his time with us, but he genuinely used this story in his after dinner speeches:

"I was walking along a street near Maine Road and I saw an old lady carrying loads of shopping bags and she was struggling a bit. I went up and asked her if she could manage? She replied better than you my love!"
You have to admire someone that can have a joke like this about himself.  ;applause;

Sad loss at only 61.

I'm in a pretty similar area to your good self about this

Who's other set of fans could take one of the better songs of the 90s and insert into it a manager they didnt particularly like!!
Or in fact sing Alan Ball's a football genius when 6-0 down

Classic

He will be sadly missed
