Title: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Blackbeard on October 07, 2005, 09:58:38 AM Hi all.
Watched Tong G on Tv last night, playing in Paris in the Ept. Was not too sure what to make of it except that I found him the most annoying, irritating and severely lacking class and decorum at the table. But saying that I thought he played ever hand to the max, yes the all in J4 or something aginst the jj had me rolling up. Saying that he made for good entertainment and was better than watching the many dullards that grace the poker tables on our tV sets. Views?? Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Blackbeard on October 07, 2005, 10:00:06 AM Sorry, I watched it on 121 challlenge even though all you guys have probably seen it and discussed it before.

heck of a good programme though, and some player Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Blackbeard on October 07, 2005, 10:03:55 AM heck of a good programme though, and some player
Yep dont disagree witht that ! But, first time I have seen that kind of behaviour on poker tv, as I said made for great viewing! Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: ACE2M on October 07, 2005, 10:37:23 AM I watched it sometimes laughing and sometimes cringing. I sat there thinking i would just ignore him and pay no attention if it was me, but being honest i would want to chin him so bad i think his tactics would work and he would get me to make a few mistakes. Very intimidating. Don't agree with the all in everyhand tactic, reminded me of HU in $5 mtt's a couple of years ago.
Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: DTD-Nick.W on October 07, 2005, 10:42:22 AM Agree Ace
After watching him over the last few months he seems to have callmed down a little only a little though. I think Chinnin him would have been an option if i was Surrinder or the guy that went out 3rd. But hey good TV Poker. Marcel wasnt to impressed i see. Thought Surrinder was magnificent in the way he handled it. I'd have been tempted to kiss him - Glasgow Style ;D Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: I KNOW IT on October 07, 2005, 11:50:00 AM I thought he was hillarious to watch but he would have been a pain to play against. He was obviously p****d
and reminded me of friday nights at Walsall J10. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: MonkeyDonkey on October 07, 2005, 12:15:47 PM Funniest/hardest thing to watch is after when he's obviously given someone a hard time then inflicted a bad beat on them (and started roaring) is how he then goes to stand up and shake their hand and looks slightly hurt when they don't want to!
The 'I'm going to wait down the nearest dark alleyway' look of his opponents kinda says it all, but yeah, great to watch in a cringeworthy 'The Office' kind of way.... Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: ifm on October 07, 2005, 01:57:51 PM if i recall correctly Tony G appologised profusely and vowed to temper his on table "act" following an avalanche of criticism from every angle after this program first aired, i remember reading his appologies on his blog at the time.
I mean it was bad, even Howard Lederer looked like he was gonna smack him after his exit (he refused to shake hands with Tony). Entertainment value 10/10 cringe value 20/10!! I missed first 15mins but not sure if he was.I mean it was bad, even Howard Lederer looked like he was gonna smack him after his exit (he refused to shake hands with Tony). Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Acidmouse on October 07, 2005, 04:48:43 PM I blame Tony G for being bloody tired teaching today! I started watching it and coudlnt stop till the end.
It was entertaining to say the least. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: TonyG on October 07, 2005, 07:52:56 PM The first time I watched that show myself I was a little nervous on how it would come out, after viewing the show I was not impressed with my behavior at certain times. There is no defence for my performance in certain situations although I think that now I am friends with all 5 finalists, that is not the way I am in real life.
I know everybody thinks that Howard is a real nice guy but think about this, perhaps in real poker things are different, I don't take things from the poker table any further its just a game and I play to win. The time he did not shake my hand was in season one WPT Paris, I love to abuse this guy on the poker table. I would say he is the most overrated poker player in the world. I made the final once before in Paris and was real worked up this time I was also feeling a bit nervous so I had a few drinks and that effect of alcohol did not come out great, since that show I do not drink while playing poker. I do not regret what happened and the way I played, its now part of poker history and I hope that everyone can watch that show and think this is unique and great entertainment in 25 years from now. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: ifm on October 07, 2005, 07:55:11 PM there was a lot of talk at the time about a deal being done, some of the calls at the end do look odd.
care to enlighten us? Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Royal Flush on October 07, 2005, 07:57:53 PM Tony i have to say, when i watched the first ACF final, i thoguth WHAT A TWAT! (being honest, lol) and then i heard about this 1 and it confirmed it for me.
however, since you have joined blonde my opinion has changed completly! I think you are a class bloke, i think it was about 4 weeks ago you joined in the railbirding of a blondite, for someone with such a high profile to join us 'rank and file' players i thoguht was a very good thing to do. I look foward to meeting you at some point. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: TonyG on October 07, 2005, 08:02:29 PM Ok no deal was ever done although there was talk about a deal.
That is the way I played and after watching the tape I do not regret it, I guess no body will come for poker advice to me. I am one fo those players that does not talk about bad beats or previuos hands and why I played them like that ;D. Once it got heads up I had a certain strategy set in my mind and I went for it. It did not work out, it is a littel missleading though since only about 10% of the heads up hands were showed. We started at 500k for me vs 1.5 mill and without a flop we were level. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: tikay on October 07, 2005, 08:37:12 PM I said in another thread earlier today, you MUST try & watch NEXT WEEK's edition of Ppoker 425, starting next Wednesday.
It's no sychophantic smoke up the arse jobbie, I promise. My first question was (something along the lines of)... "you were totally obnoxious in the Paris WPT, da de da de da". Wait & see how he handled that bouncer, then judge for yourselves. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: I KNOW IT on October 07, 2005, 08:44:41 PM Yes, I think they do cut a lot of the coverage for UK tv. When I spoke to P Maxfield about his programme which was aired last week, I said I thought R Hollink 's play with Q 10 was odd, but he said T Lee had raised Robs big blind about 7 times in a row. That was never shown and can give false impressions of peoples play.
Obviously they cant show every hand, but I was suprised that they didnt show the infamous passing of KJ suited by Hassan Habib for a very small reraise by Tuan Lee. That hand was shown on US tv . Paul said his dvd copy is 3 hrs long, where as the uk programme is only 1hr 45 mins long. Ithought you were great entertainment Tony, and remind me to buy you a drink when I see you. ;D Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Blackbeard on October 07, 2005, 09:44:45 PM thanks for the honest reply.
See i myself am a big player, £2.25 mult player on crypto(have to learn somewhere)etc etc LOL!! Still you sound like a decent/ freindly guy, and wish you all the luck in future BIG mtts! Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: bobby1 on October 07, 2005, 11:13:12 PM I have to say I thought this show was one of the best poker shows I have ever seen....maybe for all the wrong reasons but great entertainment.
Tony, could I ask, what did Surindar have to say at the end, it looked very amicable. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: TonyG on October 08, 2005, 06:24:17 AM I am very cool with Surinder. After the game he was ok no hard feelings he is a real pro and desrved to win. On the day he played much better then me.
Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: Banksie on October 09, 2005, 12:10:01 AM I'm not sure wether to post about this (cause I’m a newbee) but I’m not entirely sure about Tony’s conduct… I USED to play rugby and I know this might not be the same, but, on the pitch what some people said to each other was terrible (me being the recipient on more than a few occasions!) and it fuelled an ‘on pitch’ rivalry that got everyone going. I know poker isn’t a team sport but when bad words were exchanged between sides it just makes you want to get ‘that bloke’ even more. I think Tony’s play was neither good nor bad, but, what I do know was that after every match we all sat at the bar and bought each other a beer… even the bloke who made my mate’s face look a right mess! The point being… we’re all ADULTS playing an ADULTS game… I have NO EXPERIENCE PLAYING LIVE (yes I am a virgin!) but I must admit that if I’d experienced Tony’s behaviour at the table I’ve been a little pissed and it would’ve put me off my game, but, at the end of the day he has made ME play BADLY because of his actions and that’s the thing that would have wound me up the most! As I said I’m a LIVE VIRGIN and have absolulty no experience in this type of matter, I very much doubt that I would have shown as much restraint as Surrindar but at the end of the day, what goes on at the table should stay at the table… if a bloke can wind you up then good luck to him! As I have said I have no experience at this type of thing it’s just my opinion... and I'm ad drunk as a skunk as well hurrrraaa! ;D Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: The Baron on October 09, 2005, 02:23:14 AM Yes, I think they do cut a lot of the coverage for UK tv. Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: I KNOW IT on October 09, 2005, 09:22:04 AM Cant remember Baron srry, but Paul asked what Ithought about his bluff on a missed flush draw? said they never showed it.
Cannot believe they didnt show the KJ incident though. It proves even top quality shows like WPT are missing out on some great plays. Who actually does the editing for these people???? Just watched that prog. (WPT final). It was very disappointing. It portrayed Paul M as a suckout artist and only showed big hands where it was allin and he needed to hit. No showing of how he built his chips up etc. Plus no comment on the "over friendly" plays between Habib and Lee As for Paris....just goes to show poker and vodka are not a good mix :D Title: Re: Tong G on Telly last night ..EPT Post by: The Baron on October 09, 2005, 02:19:03 PM Cant remember Baron srry, but Paul asked what Ithought about his bluff on a missed flush draw? said they never showed it. I was with Paul in Vegas straight after he saw the WPT show over there and he said they've mde him look like an amatuer. Similarly friends over here who don't play poker but love watching it have decided to comment on the edited show that Paul is quite a lucky amatuer! Shocking. >:( |
