Some of you may have played him, he plays on tribeca as 'Panther2003' and 'JungleCat03'

Oh yeah.  Bad players are always worth abusing.  I hate it when 'fish' give away money.

I don't give players a hard time at the table on the whole. Now and again i find this difficult, hey we wouldn't be human if we didn't!
My blog lets me vent stuff i would otherwise like to say to poor players. However the reason I usually don't go overboard with abuse at players in 5$ MTTsis not because i see this as training up weak players.

Weak players are weak players for a reason. There is a proliferation of poker information and strategy advice available, either for free from the web or from books from the library or bookshops. If players are too lazy to learn a few basic strategy tips from the plethora of information available, then a few marginally insulting comments will not change their strategy, certainly not to an extent where it will have a noticable impact on your earning potential in their games.

No, the reason i generally don't insult players is that on the whole i am a polite guy. If you don't beleive that then **.

My original response was in relation to the contention that this was the 'funniest blog entry ever', which it isn't.  Thematically I disagree with everything you say and I don't think you write paricularly well.  That is neither here nor there, just an opinion.

You don't see that you are abusing bad players?   Well both blog entries are entirely about that, and you are putting that out in the public domain, your friends are advertising it on forums.  The fact that you are not typing this in the chat box is irrelevant really, though you do seem to let some comments slip throught the net; "i go on to point out that in 5$ comps people will play AT like its the f***ing nuts".   

As for not being polite, well they do say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. 

Its important to note that I'm not just worried about you scaring away the fish, though why anyone doesn't want to play against people who you are better than is beyond me.  Its not just a question of behaviour at live tables that dictates what kind of person you are, your attitude and beliefs are fundamental to this.  Respect and tolerance are important in all walks of life, poker included.

You are entitled to your opinion of course, and people are entitled to find you funny and clever.  I'm also entitled to think you are not.

Sorry James, but I don't see your point.  Would you care to elaborate?  Am I to assume you don't find this blog amusing as your original post states "This is a friend of mine's blog, and i am dying with laughter reading it!".

Danmonkey, I guess what we find so funny, and you wiould be forgiven for not understanding as you do not know Rod, he is the nicest guy you could ever meet! He doesn't have a go, is always polite and allows people their views. His blog is totally out of character which is why it is so funny! As i said, you would not know this.

Rod is in fact a VERY good writer, and gets paid to do so. when he gets a book published, and I am in no doubt that he will one day, I will be first in line for a copy!

You are of course allowed your views, and we ours. Please remember it was not Rod that linked his blog, or asked for approval. He stated in the entry that it is his way of venting, and as such he can do as he pleases.

I think its hilarious, but i guess you need to know 'the cat' too find it as funny as we do.

I very much doubt that we will see the cat diaries online again Trace (or for the foreseeable future). I asked Rod a while back if he would write some for MMM but, as he is sorting a deal on these (or was at the time) he can't publish them elsewhere for now  :( It's a shame, as they used to get me crying with laughter!

Am I alone in finding the twist this thread has taken absolutely bizzare? Having read the piece(s) in question, I was howling, much to the bemusement of those sitting around me in the office. IMO, it is quite clear from the tone and style of the writing that there is no real malice behind any of the comments, I thought it was excellently written and if there is any more of this stuff out there, point me in it's direction please!!

Danmonkey, thank you for your opinion. You are of course entitled to it. All i would say is that I write my blog primarily for myself. If anyone derives any enjoyment from it, then this is great.

As for insulting bad players, if you read the articles you will see i make a comment in which i broadly agree that it is a bad idea to do this. Which is why i write the vast bulk of my comments away from the table, in an article with a more humourous spin.

There is a difference between adopting this approach and pouring scorn on players at the tables, in the same way that whispering "I love smoked salmon on toast" in the car on the way to a fishing expedition is different to arriving, setting up your rod in the tranquil waters of your destination, then hurling a load of rocks at the lake and singing "Hooks in you", (an old iron maiden classic) at the top of your voice in a high pitched falsetto.

Anyway good luck, peace and respect. If I am ever across the felt from you in a live game, i will buy you a drink and we'll have a chat and you'll see I'm not the bile-spitting cat-demon sometimes projected by my blog (unless some1 has just cashed in for 5$ in my Om/8 pl game)
