Title: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ksollis on October 08, 2005, 08:20:57 AM expecting near the 100 runner mark in walsall on wednesday 12th and near the same on thursday.sure to be close to 200 runners on the finals day.
what do you think about every one getting min 100pound back on the day for those who don.t get lucky .some think it they should make a bigger prize with the 20.000thousand they are paying out. i thinks its an ok idea. i know 2 people who played who would not normally play in these bigger comps on the basis that they might get a draw what do you think. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: RED-DOG on October 08, 2005, 09:11:09 AM Not quite sure what you mean, sorry, can you run that by me again slowly?
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ksollis on October 08, 2005, 09:15:15 AM red dog every finalist on 15th will recieve min 100pound i was wondering if people thought it was a goog idea or not.
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: RED-DOG on October 08, 2005, 09:36:03 AM I think you might have quite a few returning for the second day
How many do you think there will be, what clock are we on, and how many starting chips? What is the prize structure at the moment, how many does it pay? I think its a good idea in principle to give all those returning for day two something, but it can cause a lot of short stacks to try to hang on and run the clock down, you have to be careful what you promise Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ksollis on October 08, 2005, 09:42:32 AM red dog all qualifiers will recieve min 100 pound who make it to saturday.if theres 200 runners thats what i am saying 20.000payout before the finals.
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 08, 2005, 10:45:00 AM From what I can gather from the website, it appears that the prize pool is a guaranteed £250,000 minimum, with !st prize £100,000. Personally I don't see anything wrong with paying everyone £100, after all some are coming from as far away as Scotland £20,000 is not a big chunk of the prize pool. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ifm on October 08, 2005, 11:37:46 AM how many qualifiers are left?
i know walsall on weds..........any more? Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: tikay on October 08, 2005, 11:46:05 AM There are TEN Qualifiers left, as of today (Saturday).
Sunday - Salford, & The Vic Monday - Luton & Blackpool Tuesday - Liverpool & Southampton Wednesday - Walsall Thursday - Walsall, The Vic, & Cardiff. Fields this week are likely to be massive, based on previous year's patterns, so PLENTY of seats on offer. Lots of blondeites have qualified already - we need MORE. If ifm, or someone local to Walsall, knows somewhere where the blondeites can all hook up for some pre-comp dinner on Saturday, I'm up for it, & it's on me, outa my Gutshot winnings. But you need to let me know who's up for it, so we have an idea of numbers, if any...... Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ifm on October 08, 2005, 11:58:41 AM i am 90% to try wednesday, my first attempt......most likely only attempt cuz of work commitments. i had to leave it to this late stage unfortunately for reasons out of my control.
What is it like in the late qualifiers? i assume a lot of pro's will be travelling for these, would thursday be better as there is 3 on this day? Dreading sitting down with folks carrying 4 or 5 rebuys, just not worth it as it's a percentage of entrants rather than prize pool. As for a meal beforehand, i don't know walsall at all (M6 route only) but there is a little estate thingy over the road with an italian i think?? Also i'm not sure if Ash's restaurant is still open, i know it was close to grosvenor. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 08, 2005, 12:03:12 PM Tikay, everyone has to be there for the draw just before 3pm Saturday. Even if there are 200+ runners and it goes to two "flights". This is due apparantly to Gaming Board regulation #3 which states that all participants must be present at the start. But if we are drawn in flight #2 which will run from 9pm until 3am, dinner sounds fine. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: tikay on October 08, 2005, 12:05:25 PM Correct Karabiner - hence my suggestion we could hook up locally at maybe 1pm for a bit of nosh. I don't think Ash's place is still open.
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 08, 2005, 12:07:49 PM Okay Tikay, I'm with you now. Sounds good. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Colchester Kev on October 08, 2005, 12:09:40 PM we could hook up locally at maybe 1pm for a bit of nosh. Resist Kev ... RESIST !!!! Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ksollis on October 08, 2005, 01:54:20 PM lads you can get a meal in the village hotel on the doorstep 2 for 7pound at present and and its nice.
don.t forget the free buffet that will laid on for you later though which is quite enjoyable. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: TightEnd on October 08, 2005, 02:55:53 PM I've booked into the Village hotel..that seems a decent enough place for a pre comp meal at 1pm. After that becomes difficult because some of us will be playing at 3pm, some at 9pm
If tikay's offering nosh on him, unsurprisingly, I'll be there. Having not eaten the day before! Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 09, 2005, 01:55:04 PM I think you might have quite a few returning for the second day How many do you think there will be, what clock are we on, and how many starting chips? What is the prize structure at the moment, how many does it pay? I think its a good idea in principle to give all those returning for day two something, but it can cause a lot of short stacks to try to hang on and run the clock down, you have to be careful what you promise As they are not yet sure whether they will have to run the tourney as one "flight" or two. Does this mean that the allotted time for play will in fact be halved if there are over 200 runners ? Does this therefore suggest a far faster clock and structure than had been planned ? What sort of clock/structure should a major tournament with a minimum £250.000 prize fund have ? I would have thought a 45 minute clock would be the minimum for this event, but how can they do that ? Lots of question, but I hope it's not going to be a "crapshoot" Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: RED-DOG on October 09, 2005, 02:07:50 PM I think you might have quite a few returning for the second day How many do you think there will be, what clock are we on, and how many starting chips? how do you know about flight 1, 2 etc? - all i have had through the post is my invite and confirmation of entry. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 09, 2005, 02:51:06 PM Junior, I qualified live at Walsall on Wednesday and was chatting with Danny V and one of the "suits" just before I left. They were saying that they could fit in extra tables on the gaming floor if they roped them off. But if there were more than 200(I think that was the figure) then there would be two sittings. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Junior Senior on October 09, 2005, 02:59:03 PM not sure i like the idea of two sittings unless i knew in advance when my sitting was. I really dont want to be hanging around waiting to play.
p.s. 1pm for dinner sounds good to me! Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ksollis on October 09, 2005, 03:05:05 PM its allmost a cert there will be 2 sitting . going into today there were 155 seats with 10 chances left. including walsalls wed and thurs which will definately get min 25 seats if not more.that leaves 8 venues left just to get 20seats. so it does look a formallity that there are two seating.
i do know that it is 10.000 starting chips . i am going this evening so i will let you know tomorrow if there is anymore info, good luck.. :)up Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: RED-DOG on October 09, 2005, 03:10:48 PM PLEEEEEEEEESE!!!
No short clock or missed levels, this is not the EPT you know ::) Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Junior Senior on October 09, 2005, 03:24:17 PM any clock shortening should be done in levels 1-4 and not late on!!!!!!
its not good for the game and the players will form a deep resentment for the organisers! - maybe thats going a bit far but i wont like it Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 09, 2005, 03:31:14 PM Since everyone has to turn up before 3pm on Saturday for the draw. When we will find out if we are first or second sitting, why not make the second sitting Sunday ? Play down to one table each day, then play the last two tables to a conclusion on Monday ? Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ksollis on October 09, 2005, 03:37:14 PM lads how can they tell you about the draw when the runners has not be finalised.i think its a formality over 200 runners but if not everyone looks like playing at 3pm.
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: ifm on October 09, 2005, 04:05:33 PM some people will have work monday

We both know that dinner is the evening meal ;) Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Yogi-Bear on October 09, 2005, 11:10:44 PM Wish I could be down there for the Event. Will be the first one I've missed but unfortunately with a Mumps epidemic at work someone has to stay behind and look after the ship.
Yogi Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: hotdog on October 10, 2005, 04:55:11 PM it is a 1 hour clock 10k startin chips.there willl be no levels missed or shortining of the clock.afternoon an night sittings is correct if there is ofa 200 players.if my maths r correct groves will have 2 add some cash prob bout 15k.ne way i am 21 on sat so hope ime included in ur offer tikay.lol cu all there sat.p.s ashes restraunt is closed.nice food aswell :-[
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: winkie on October 10, 2005, 05:16:43 PM If there's separate afternoon and evening sessions, how will this work...?
Split into 100(ish) per sitting and play down to a specified number in each session. Then come back on Sunday (all in the money) and play out the remainder...? Sorry, but this will be my biggest tourney to date, so I'm not sure how it all works... Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Karabiner on October 10, 2005, 05:44:09 PM If what hotdog says is correct, and I have no reason to doubt him. I would guess that each sitting will play their first six x 1 hour levels, and whoever is still left in will return for day two. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Dani Versace on October 10, 2005, 06:22:32 PM The original sturture for the GP was an hour clock, the stucture will be closely looked at due to the amount of players, Richard, zak and myself along with other supervisors will have a meeting to outline the structure and other key points to how the tourniment is run. as soon as this i hav a definate answer ill let you guys know as soon as possible, the levels will NOT be shorter than 45 mins.
as its going it very much looks like it will be over 2 sittings, (sorry guys but guildline 3 stat u all hav to be there when the competition commences) a pain i know. the pit will be open and there will be cash games avalible from 3 o'clock aswell the starting chips are going to be 10000 Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Junior Senior on October 10, 2005, 07:09:57 PM grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
danni, please take heed of what a few blondeites have said already - any clock shortening, please dont take the decision lightly and please, if you are to shorten the clock do it early on (e.g. 30 minute levels for the first 3-4 levels then back to an hour thereafter). - it would be appreciated, thanks Greg Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Dani Versace on October 10, 2005, 07:26:59 PM junior, im not in favour of shortening clocks and take all comments from blondites seriously good or bad, and ill gladly put your point across during the meeting,
the monthly £300 freezeout. regarded as structally one of the best tourniments around by many, giving you plenty of time to play, so following on from that i dont see the Grand Prix being any differant. Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Junior Senior on October 10, 2005, 07:40:04 PM thanks for listening dani, its appreciated. We're a tetchy lot you know if we dont get our own way. ;D
Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: RED-DOG on October 10, 2005, 07:42:18 PM The original sturture for the GP was a 1 hour clock, So what's changed?
You expected to get this many qualifiers, if not more, so the circumstances were forseeable Bring the players in early, start them at midday, same with the second day This is a flagship tournament for Grosvenor, it's a lot of money, give us a proper shot at it Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: Junior Senior on October 10, 2005, 07:52:28 PM The original sturture for the GP was a 1 hour clock, So what's changed? Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: TightEnd on October 10, 2005, 07:59:26 PM Mr Versace, your comments are appreciated
As the others say, surely it can be no surprise that 200+ runners will qualify and yet the blurb on the blue sq site says that day 1 will be in two flights if necessary (fine) and the final nine will return for a final table on Sunday. How on earth was this ever going to be feasible with 10k chips and a 1 hour clock? Please if necessary start the thing earlier or at an absolute last resort cut the time of the first few levels, but don't muck around wqith it beyond that If 50 come back for day 2 so be it. Finally, and a cheap point, whilst it is to be welcomed that cash games will be available for those who turn up for 3pm on saturday and get told they are in the second flight (9pm? 10pm?) it is not that attractive to be told the pit will be open!!! I for one would disappear back to the hotel for rest and relaxation Title: Re: grosvenor grand prix walsall Post by: BigArmo on October 10, 2005, 10:30:31 PM Why are you thinking of POKER on the 15th its the Rugby League Grand Final u all mad >:?.

Trouble is brewing and after seeing the screaming and shouting about paying everyone £100 at the first Grand Prix, I'll miss the shenanigans this time around. Hope everything sorts itself out ok. Good Luck to all you Blondites/ Blondeites who have qualified. Make it a Final 9 of us.
