Title: opinions please
Post by: Newmanseye on May 08, 2007, 01:35:36 PM
This hand happened at a home game last week and i would like opinions.

Game is a £20 with one rebuy for 4000 in chips,

We are on the 2nd level with about 5000 in chips and still on our initial buyin as is everyone at the table, so all teh stacks are fairly similar no great difference.  Blinds are 50 - 100

there are 2 tables 6 handed and our table is fairly tight, we have been generating mopst of the action on table 1.

So we are in the cut off and we have  Qh 9c  and its folded to us, we put in a small raise of 2.5x  the big blind.

Only the Big blind calls, flop comes  Qs 9h 3c, Bb checks, We bet 500 to keep the pressure up as i have been betting everything anyway, regardless of hitting or not, so a check would be a mistake here IMHO.

Now our opponent is a tighty tricky player, has a tight reputation but has been caught with garbage before.

the Big blind Flat calls, Turn card is  3h

Big blind checks again, we bet 1100, our opponent dwells for a few seconds and moves all in.

Can we get away from this hand,  or SHOULD we get away from this hand?

I call, It's only 2k more and you are ahead of AQ.

Great reply Tankie, and yes the call is the a good play but that was not the question,  Can i get away from my hand  and should i get away from it?

Yes (if you are the type of person who plays poker in order to make monster laydowns) and no (coz I think the correct play is a call.)

Being live though, if you have a good read that cancels everything out. If you know somehow that he has an overpair or a 3 then of course you can fold.

I would call.

He probs has A 3 and is a huge donk tho. Maybe a case for folding in the WSOP main event or summat. But not when youve committed so many chips and its a £20 rebuy. Theres a reasonable chance youre ahead.

Also, you still have outs.

even I call

as you, my opponent knows I (you) could be playing garbage and can be a lot weaker than flopped top two pair. I increease his range accordhingly

Yeh I know its a standard call against most people, and TBH my only concern was the 3 and i really didnt think this player would have played any sort or 3 from the bigblind facing a raise.

However i got a different opinion fro a friend yesterday and I was laughing at him for saying fold so i wanted to reassure myself...lol

BTW i was miles ahead of QJ which was what he had.

Only if you have a read on someone.  If you 'know' they have AA, KK or 99, or somehow you know they have a 3.  Otherwise, in it goes.

Like Tighty, I'm a rock and I beat him in the pot.

If you've been betting every flop you see, the tight player probably thinks he's stitched you up with AQ or even KQ. He may well be on a 3 outer so unless you're up against flushy, instacall

(I'm not bitter and neither is my wife)
