Title: Wait for a better spot or correct play?
Post by: Acidmouse on May 09, 2007, 02:32:02 PM
Ok be gentle I suck at poker.

15 players left in a £10 DC game at Moortown.

Blinds 800/1600 I am on roughly 10k in Chips with average around 25k.

Last two hands my stack has gone from 25k-10k bit unlucky meeting bigger hands and having to lay them down.

I am on Button and it folds around to me  Ahrt Th I push all in for 10k

SB passes BB hums and Argggg's and calls for 10k with  7s 7d more then half his chips.

I was a little miffed he called on a coinflip at best for him, (the person is Brents cash bandit mate:P) Well no help and I left the Tourney.

I am now coming around to thinking I made a bad play and waited for a better spot?

the only bad play you made is pushing. you are telling him "I'm shortstacked and will take any race I can get if you have any pair, or decent ace you're most likely to be good". If you raise to 4500 you still have all your chips commited (as you will clearly call any all-in) and show a bit more strenght.
If you were thinking of limping with the hand or not raising you should quite clearly be shot.
the raise is right..the push from a psychological perspective not so much, in my humble opinion as it tells him his pocketpair is ahead.

I'd have done the same most probably - both with the push and the call.

With Under 7 BB's I feel its an easy push from that position

Cheers, glad I didn't make a muppet move, only real choice was half my chips raise or all in then.

Yes, I think so.  I get what Boldie says about the smaller raise as opposed to the push, but it wouldn't have made any difference here.

Errrm

He has to call 8400 to win 12,400 and he is a coinflip at WORST, not best.

Not true as the all in could have 88 and above.
But I see what you were trying to say James.

With 7 bb you push with most A, and all sorts of hands.  You are there to either get buy some time, go home or get lucky.

easy push

Acid, i think you did the right thing........who was it, Adam? do you mean.......Its even better pushing on his BB, because hed probably have called with any Ace, even King Queen, King Jack etc...

But seeing as he had 77, id have called also. You gotta play to win, and anyone there is easily getting the odds to call with a mid pair.

Easy Push, Easy Call.

Yes it was Adam, he was chatting away with me before very friendly, he does have an ok game for Moortown, was not happy he bust me though, never win those coinflips down there.

both of these are +EV. if the hands were reversed and you had 77 and he had A10 and the hand played the same way i think those plays would be far worse than what happened though.

small raise usually shows more strength than all in to steal as u say your short stacked. but both are reasonable plays, all in and call with mid pair
