Title: O/T - Help me with Firefox, its driving me insane
Post by: Sheriff Fatman on May 19, 2007, 12:08:16 PM
Since switching to Firefox ages ago I've been a big fan.  However, it has a bug in it that is driving me up the wall and is stopping me using it when I want to (I'm having to type this on IE as a result).

There was a thread a while back where I asked about a fix to the problem that stops me typing the ' character (a search field pops up when I do).  Someone posted a link, I followed the steps in it and it didn't work.

Now, I've discovered that the same thing happens when I type "/".  Even worse, the copy and paste functions don't work periodically.

It may be coincidence but these problems always seem to appear when I'm browsing the blonde forum.  Given that 90% of my browsing is done here this might not be an issue.  However, I'm getting seriously hacked off at having to switch, mid-post, to IE because I can't type what I wanted.

Help please from the nerds computer whizzes.

Type about:config in the address bar

In the text box enter typeahead

You're looking for accessibility.typeaheadfind.autostart

If it's set to true, change it to false.

That should do it...but it might not solve your problem, it could be something else causing it.

That might be the solution that you were given before - if it was - there might be another way to sort it.  Do you have the greasemonkey addon installed?

Thanks guys, just tried the fix that kinboshi linked to and will see how it goes (the bug is sporadic so the fact that its working ok now isn't conclusive, just a good sign).

Started searching for a link to the bug yesterday via Google and got nothing helpful, so you did better than me in finding those links.
