Title: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 03:32:29 AM Play will restart at 2pm Sunday.
Chip standings for the final 14: John Exley -- 108,100 C Owen -- 142,200 James Dempsey -- 271,900 Mohammed Shafiq -- 275,900 Maz Nawab -- 112,700 A Sapiano -- 488,900 Roberto Romanello -- 143,700 Neil Carr -- 454,800 Steve Jelinek -- 165,000 Raj Modha -- 209,400 Marty Wilson -- 185,700 Dave Smith -- 177,300 Barny Boatman -- 259,200 Terrence Burke -- 69,400 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 02:46:15 PM Shaf raises from the small blind. Raj pushes the big. Shaf mucks quickly.
Next hand, Shaf raises the button, Neil Carr re-raises from the big blind and bets 120k on the 2h Tc 2d board, once again Shaf folds quickly. After that, Raj raises to 45k on the button, Marty Wilson pushes for 128k more. Raj calls with Qd Qs, Marty shows Aspades Jc Board: 5s 3s Js Kh 7d Marty is OUT in 14th winning £2,400 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 02:49:32 PM It's all-intastic here - first 15 minutes and about 6 of them...
John Exley pushes over Albert Sapiano's flat call preflop - he gives him a spin for the full 80k with his 3c 3h. John's 8d 8h were comfortably in front and stayed so - he's up to 160k Big blind Teremce Burke pushes over the top of Flushy's button raise for about 75k total - call with Aspades 6h. He was delighted to see Terrence with 5d 5c, but again, the ahead pair stayed ahead as the board came Kc 3c 4s Jd Kh. Maz Nawab raised preflop with one caller in Albert Sapiano, then pushed on the Kc 7s Jh flop. Albert check-called with his Aspades Tc, but Maz had hit a King and his Ks Qc doubled him up too. _________________________________________ The only one whose all-in went the other way was Shaf - he had it all in with Ad Kd while Dave Smith, who covered him, held JJ. After losing about 100k already today, Shaf was in for around 150-60k, and when the Jd popped out first card it gave Dave a nice near-double-through and a comfortable opponent-drawing-dead river. So Mohammed Shafiq finishes in 13th place, winning £2,400 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 02:54:41 PM We've lost Craig Owen, he got crippled holding A-Q against Roberto Romanello's K-3 before managing to increase his stack from 4k to 26k when his K-Q beat Neil Carr's Kings on a J-4-2-Q-Q board. However, he pushed shortly afterwards with Q-J on Neil Carr's big blind, only Carr had, yep, Kings again. Board came J-T-5-7-2
Craig Owen is OUT in 12th winning £2,400 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 03:09:58 PM Roberto Romanello Justifies the Existence of the ipod:
Raj Modha raises preflop an extra 21k. Big blind Roberto looks at him, looks at his stack, and clearly decides that this pot is not going to Raj without a fight. "I think I've got the best hand," he begins. Then changes it: "I know I've got the best hand." Then: "Just cause I got to like you yesterday, that's why I'm raising you. I don't know whether I want a call or not." Raj ponders silently. Roberto: "If you raise, 99.9% I'll go with you. I'll show, I promise. I've got about 200k." Then: "I've got good chips, you've got good chips. Whoever wins it will probably go all the way." Raj ponders silently. Roberto: "Clock!" Raj passes and Roberto flips Qh 6s. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 03:12:06 PM Steve Jelinek is OUT in 11th place winning £3,000
All went in with Js Jh against Albert Sapiano's Kd Ks Board: 6c 6d 3s 4h Ac Elsewhere, Raj lost a 150k pot to Neil Carr whose 9d 5c matched better to the Tc 9h 7h 4c 5d board than the Laddies Poker Million winner. We are now hand for hand. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 03:12:59 PM Flushy loses a chunk to Steve Jelinek - just caught him betting on a Jh Kc 9c Qc board (36k) when Steve checked to him. Call.
River: 6h Steve checks again and Flushy eventually decides to check behind. Steve shows his Qh 9s and a slightly frustrated-looking James mucks. ___________________________ Jelinek then raises after Barny limps on Flushy's big blind (the two of them looking at each other - "Not even one time?" sighs Flushy)...they both pass eventually and Steve shows Ahrt Aspades. But all that was before the pot which eliminated Jelinek, obviously, I just thought it added colour to the string of eliminations. Hand-for-hand. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 03:32:14 PM Terry Burke is OUT in 10th place winning £4,600
He had Ace Queen, Albert Sapriano had Aces. Board was an unhelpful 9-K-4-K-Q We're on a break now and a redraw for the final table. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 03:32:40 PM Chip counts complete with the redraw for the final table:
Albert Sapiano -- 739k Neil Carr -- 726k James Dempsey -- 227k John Exley -- 150k Barney Boatman -- 138k Dave Smith -- 262k Roberto Romanello -- 323k Raj Modha -- 367k Maz Nawab -- 135k Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:04:42 PM I think....yes....we're off! Blinds are now 6,000/12,000 ante 1,000.
The button is on Albert Sapiano in Seat One.... "I haven't got much of a hand," Roberto says, raising straight away first hand in early position to 36k. Neil Carr calls in the small blind. Flop: 2h 8h 5c Neil bets out 70k after looking like he'd counted to five in his head first, and Roberto, although taking a chunk of blue chips to thread from his stack, doesn't like it and passes with the minimum (for him) of verbal. This includes, "You look terrified," to Neil. "Go all in then," finally responds Neil. "What will you do if I do?" "Call you." That didn't happen, however, this time. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:09:54 PM Barny Boatman raises to 40k preflop. Cutoff Albert Sapiano calls (he does do quite a bit of this, I've noticed over the last two days)...
Flop: 8h 8d Jh Barny, who'd committed about a quarter to a third of his stack pre, bets out 60k. Albert flat calls again. River: 4d Barny, nearly on the felt, surely has to push...and yes, shoves it in - Call! Barny shows: Qs Ks Albert shows: Kh Ac River: 8s And with that strange triple-call, Barny Boatman is eliminated in 9th place, winning £6,100 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:16:26 PM Raj Modha raises to 40k in early position, big blind Dave Smith pushes over the top...
Raj asks for a countdown - total either 119k or 190k, we really can't hear properly. "Why are you pushing all in?" he asks. "I want you to double me up." Well, it's not quite Romanello standard, but they're warming up... We all think Dave Smith has A-K. "I have to pass," says Rajesh, so we'll have to wait six months to find out. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:21:24 PM Albert makes it 45k to go preflop, effortlessly getting Roberto's big blind and showing the Ac Jc. People are going to find it hard to take him on - a huge stack that might just call you no matter what...
_________________________________ John Exley makes it 40k to go preflop, Raj now moves in from the big blind. "Go on then," says John, the whole operation taking less than 30 seconds - on their backs: Raj shows: 5s 5c John shows: Ahrt 9h Flop: 2d 3c 6s Turn: Tc River: 9c Can't see Raj's stack, but it can't be in good shape now... Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 05:25:13 PM Albert makes it 45k, John Exley moves all-in. The pressroom don't think Albert will pass and he doesn't.
John: Jd Jc Albert: Ad Kd Flop: Kc 5d Qs Turn: 3s River: 8h So John Exley is OUT in 8th place winning £9,200 Albert has roughly 1/3 of the chips in play. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 05:35:16 PM Next hand, Flushy and Dave passes, Roberto limps, Raj passes, as does Maz, Alberto calls in the small blind. Neil decides to spoil it by raising to 45k. But both of them call.
Flop: 5c Ad 6h Albert bets 70k, Neil and Roberto both pass. _______________________________________ Maz raises preflop, action over to Neil who passes after a dwell. Flushy passes in the big blind. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 05:38:22 PM Flop between small blind Flushy and big blind Dave.
Flop: 2h Kh Jc Check Check. Turn: Th Flushy bets 12k, Dave calls. River: Kd Flushy bets 21k, and Dave passes. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:42:58 PM Small blind Dave Smith toys with some chips, listening to Flushy who's raised on the button (note, I didn't automatically say 'Button-raised'): "It's been a long tournament...three days, comes down to one decision..."
"You worry about your decision, I'll worry about mine," snaps Dave, slightly, "I'm just deciding whether to raise, or whether to call." "You always have three options - call, raise or fold," helps Flushy. Blinds Dave and Roberto give it up. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 05:48:16 PM Albert raises to 45k and takes the blinds.
_________________________________ Maz gets a walk in the big blind. _________________________________ Maz raises in the small blind, making it 52k. Albert auto-calls. Flop: Tc 2c Kc Maz moves all-in, seems he likes this golf-bag. Albert passes. "That's not like you Albert!" Says Maz. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:55:24 PM Threeway flop - Qh 5h 2c James checks, Dave checks, Albert checks
Turn: Qd James bets 26k, called by Dave and Albert passes this one... River: 2d James bets 45k, instacall from Dave - "Can you beat Seven-high?" asks James, with his 7d 4d Yes - Dave Smith takes it with his 5c 7c. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 05:58:45 PM Albert raises preflop to 45k, Button Flushy pushes his stack over the line....
Call! James shows Ts Th Albert shows Qh Qd Flop: 6d Js Qc Turn: 8h River: Ac So James 'Flushy' Dempsey finishes in 7th place, winning £12,200 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 06:11:44 PM 10 minute break, whilst some computer problems are sorted out.
Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 06:37:36 PM Well, after the shock has subsided and our 'technical difficulties' overcome and we've left Flushy with a Corona in the bar - play continues for the bigger money...
Maz Nawab in the small blind ponders Neil's 45k preflop bet... and eventually calls. Flop: 2s 5h 6d Maz pushes, straight away. Neil dwells for too long to be calling...the clock is called... ...and he passes - the pot goes to Maz. _____________________________ Maz, the next hand, makes it 42k to play preflop, Neil calls, Dave Smith moves in over the top. Double pass and it goes to Dave. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 06:53:45 PM Roberto moves in on the small blind for a total of 134k...big blind Raj can't push him off, he can only call... "If I had more chips I'd gamble...if I pass, you show me an Ace?"
"I'm not going to show you this one..." says Roberto - both of them probably having visions of that prior Q-6. Pass - another for Roberto (showed a Queen), who, however, is still in pretty bad chip shape, comparatively. __________________________________ Now on the button, next hand, Roberto Romanello checks out the blinds' stacks, before raising a little - 28k total. "It's so cheap you can't fold!" Big blind Maz agrees, calling. Flop: 6c 8d Td Maz bets out 50k. Sigh from Roberto - "All in." "I have to call," announces Maz... (all of this in less than half a minute - totally the opposite of the last time-consuming hand) Roberto shows: 6s 8h Maz shows: Js Tc Turn: Ac River: 2d And a brief period of countdown decides that Maz Nawab has in fact just been eliminated in 6th place, for £15,200. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 07:03:44 PM 5 left. 7k/14k/1k
Neil and Dave pass. Raj moves all-in. Albert passes. Raj gains some chips. ________________________________________________________ Albert and Neil see a flop. Flop: 3h 6h 6s Albert bets 30k, Neil passes. ________________________________________________________ 8s 6c Qs flop is seen between Dave Smith and Albert. Dave bets 40k, Albert insta-calls. Turn: 5s Dave checks, Albert checks. River: 9d Dave now bets 40k, Albert calls. Dave shows K-Q which is good. Albert shows 6-4... Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 07:06:29 PM Here were the chip counts as from the GUKPT site - I have no reason to believe these aren't nicely accurate:
Albert Sapiano 1,455,000 Neil Carr 741,000 Dave Smith 349,000 Roberto Romanello 340,000 Rajesh Modha 168,000 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 07:14:16 PM Dave Smith limps preflop, Roberto limps on the button, Raj passes and Albert checks the big blind.
Flop: 4c 2c 4s Albert bets 60k, Dave thinks about it and passes, Roberto passes, saying, "I've got a Four but a bad kicker. You'll see it on TV." ___________________________________ Roberto makes up the small blind and Neil raises to 54k - call from Roberto, and now Albert jumps on the bandwagon. Flop: 3h 3c 9c Albert bets out 80k (he's a fan of the call pre, bet out post flop) but finds Neil Carr raising to 180k. Back to Albert who gives it up...showing 6h 6s. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 07:23:56 PM Raj raises UTG, makes it 56k. Takes the blinds.
____________________________________ Albert limps UTG, Neil passes, Dave calls from the button, Roberto makes up and Raj checks. Flop: Jh 6h Th Roberto checks, Raj checks, Albert bets 110k. "No heart then?" inquires Dave, but eventually passes, as does everyone else. Albert shows Qh 3h. ____________________________________ Passed to Roberto on the button, who passes, he seems to be playing tighter than usual at the moment. Raj pushes from the small blind. Albert passes. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 07:30:27 PM Raj raises to 60k on the button. Albert and Neil pass.
Because of Albert's dominating stack and his constant calling and presence in pots, the other players have really rocked up, slowing the game right down and becoming afraid to make any moves. __________________________________________ Roberto limps, Dave checks the big blind. Flop: 5s 3h Ahrt Check check. Turn: Ad Check check. River: 3c Check from Dave, Roberto dwells, and then bets 35k. Dave instantly calls, Roberto shows A-8, Dave shows 8-5, and the chips go to the Welshman. We're now on a 1 hour dinner break. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 08:37:16 PM Ok, we're about to restart now.
Blinds 8k/16k/2k Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 08:53:15 PM Neil and Dave see a flop:
Ad 7h Qh Both check. Boring. Ahrt. The excitement of this card is crushed by checkage. 2d Neil checks, Dave bets the minimum and takes the pot down. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 09:00:20 PM Albert calls, Dave calls, Roberto checks his bb.
Flop: 4s 8s 7c chch Albert bets 60k (if it gets to him on the flop and no-one's bet, he does seem to take that initiative a very high percentage of the time) and he wins it there. ____________________________ Roberto pushes in on the small blind when it folds round to him - big blind Raj gives it up. ____________________________ And Roberto all in next hand too - this time on the button, getting the next set of blinds as well. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 09:08:17 PM Incidentally, this is Neil Carr's first ever live tournament. His brother bought him in as a birthday present. (That's a hint to my brother please. ;)) I had a feeling he might not have played live too much, or just have an idiosyncratic approach to chip stacking (see photo). Plus he made that timewasting blind post involving 6 stacks of Ten 100 chips when the big blind was 6k, instead of two quick chips, thereby raising dealer blood pressure, something people tend to learn not to do live pretty fast. What a great present, though, it's keeping on giving. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 09:09:10 PM Dave and Albert are in a pot.
Board: 6h Kh Qd 8s 6s Albert bets 120k on the river, Dave calls with K-J and wins after Albert is forced to show A-J. __________________________________________ Dave limps, Albert raises on the button to 60k, Neil is dwelling in the small blind, but passes, as does Dave. __________________________________________ Albert limped (as per), Dave makes up and Roberto checks. I'd give you a flop but it doesn't matter since the blinds check, Albert fires and they both pass, so it become inconsequential. __________________________________________ Allbert limps once more, (He's apparently still down for the year, even if he wins). He sees a 2c Jh Kd flop with Dave, Roberto and Raj. Bets again and they all pass. Sigh. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 09:12:20 PM Raj on the button moves in over the top of Neil Carr's preflop raise... a countdown later and Neil faces 169k more...Call.
Neil shows: 9h 9d Raj shows: Ahrt Qh Flop: Ad 5s Ks Turn: 6h River: Jd Double up and polite round of applause for short stack Raj. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 09:20:44 PM Flop:
Qc 4d 6c Albert (who else?) bets 50k, Neil (who does a lot of hand over mouth thinking) makes it 150k. Albert calls. (The two most repeated words on the update) Turn: Tc Albert checks. Neil moves in for 431k. Albert CALLS! Neil: Kh Td Albert: Ac Ks River: 3h Someone finally takes a stand against Albert's constant betting and Albert still manages to call with no hand on the flop. Perhaps this tournament is about to swing another way... Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 09:30:49 PM Albert, with dented stack for the first time in a long while, makes it 80k preflop - pass round. Tilt appears to be moving anticlockwise...
________________________________ Heads up - 9d Td Qh Dave checks, Roberto checks. Turn: Qh Dave checks, Roberto minbets and takes that one. ________________________________ Aspades 2d 5s flop, Raj checks it and so do Albert and Neil, they see the Kc turn, check-check-check River: Ks check to Neil who gives it a go for 40k - Albert calls. Neil has the Kd Qs - muck from his caller and some more chips for the birthday boy. These are the edited highlights - play has slowed somewhat at this point. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 20, 2007, 09:37:44 PM Dave raises to 60k, Roberto and Raj pass. Will Albert call? Of course he does. Neil passes.
Flop: Kd 7c 7h Albert and Dave both check. Turn: 6s Check again. I'm not impressed. River: Tc Now Albert just decides to muck rather than just check. Pot shipped over to the Hat-wearing man. ______________________________________ Passed to Neil in the small blind, who calls and Dave checks. Flop: Jh 7h Jd Neil bets 20k and Dave insta-folds. 1) Small blind Neil takes the big blind by raising to 50k. 2) Roberto pushes in preflop over Albert's preflop raise to 50k...presumably Roberto is expecting a call is more likely than not. Flop: Qh 5d 2d Neil bets 60k (he's upping his aggression a notch), Dave calls. Turn: 3h Seems like a brick. Neil's looking unsure as to whether to fire the second barrel, in fact he dwells too long and checks. Dave checks. River: Jh Dave and Neil both check and Dave's Five with a King kicker takes the pot. A second barrel on the flop would've done it perhaps? __________________________________ Neil raises to 80k, Raj dwells, he seems to spend a least a minute on every hand, but this time he says, "All-in." Neil calls as Dave gets out of the way. Raj: Ks Th Neil: Aspades Jd Board: Qh 7c 5h 4s Ahrt And just like that, Raj Modha is OUT in 3rd place winning £33,600 Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 11:25:12 PM Break, in which if a deal isn't being done I'll eat Dave's hat....

Dave calls on the button, Neil instaraises to 90k, call just as fast. Flop: Kd 8c Ts Neil slows down, now, taking his time to bet 80k, called by Dave. Turn: 4c Neil bets a pondered 160k, called by Dave. River: 6c Neil bets more quickly now - 400k, placed with a thump over the line (in what looked like a 4x string bet but must have been announced out of our earshot)... Dave passes on the river as swiftly as he'd called all the way there. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on May 20, 2007, 11:46:01 PM Dave raises on the button to 110k (it's been effective a couple of times preflop now), and this time Neil re-raises preflop, with a call.

Flop: 6c Qs 5c. Flop: 3h 6d 4h Dave checks, Neil bets 120k, Dave calls. Turn: 4c Dave checks, Neil checks River: 9d Dave checks, Neil checks and his Ace-high beats Dave's King-high. ____________________________ With the momentum of that, Dave...calls on the big blind; check. Flop: 4c 9h 3c check-check Turn: 5h Neil bets 40k, called instantly River: Aspades Neil bets out a stack of red chips equalling 140k, Dave instantly announces all-in, Neil looks heavenwards, scratches his ear, shakes his head and furrows his brow over the course of about 5 minutes, before passing. **apparently** he showed the mucked 5-2. (!!!!). Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 21, 2007, 12:06:21 AM They see another flop:
Kh 8d 9c Dave bets 30k, Neil makes it 80k, Dave calls. 2c Dave checks, Neil bets 100k. Dave calls. Td Dave checks, Neil goes back to chewing. He's picking up some chips and bets 200k, which is enough to push Dave off his (likely) Nine or weak King. Neil is back up to 1,206,000, Dave still has 1,861,000. 3:2 lead for the Hat man. Title: Re: Brighton GUKPT: Final Day - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on May 21, 2007, 12:14:15 AM Neil raises to 70k, Dave re-raises to 270k. Neil passes.
