Title: My Mansion experience Post by: suzanne on May 21, 2007, 12:53:28 AM Monday evening I log onto Blonde to have my daily fix of the forum. I click on the Mansion thread and OMG my name has been picked in the weekly draw WOOOHOOO.
Now to be honest I have been getting very disillusioned with poker especially since tribeca has gone. My bankroll has been dwindling away slow but sure and I had come to the conclusion that I wasn’t good enough to be a profitable player but that’s okay, not everyone is going to hack it and im cool just ticking along and playing for fun. SO …here is my chance to play with the big boys and for FREE. Time to get those Dave Colclough CDs out that I had been meaning to listen to. Armed with a few tips I am sat in front of my PC on Tuesday night for the first game. My stomach is in knots and I’m giving myself the “you can do it, you can win this” pep talk. My game plan is to sit tight, play premium hands, target a couple of fish, no heroics, just plain ABC poker and where could I go wrong. All is going to plan when the inevitable double or bust hand comes along. I am UTG with QQ and raise 4xBB preflop and find 4 callers, too many for my liking. Flop comes down 676 which is not bad. I put a sizable raise in hoping to take down the pot, matey 1 folds as does matey 2 but matey 3 goes allin…OOPS. I have got to be behind but ive got him covered so “lets see what you have”…..wait for it …did he have AA no, did he have KK no….he had 67 O/S FFS. Luckily a Q on the turn sent him packing but calling a raise with 67os what is THAT about!!! Didn’t make the money that night but I played reasonably well and was quite happy with the way I played. Thursday night second attempt was a complete nightmare. Half the field was disconnected several times for the first 3 levels, half my chips were lost on the blinds and raising a pot then being kicked off the table mid hand BOOO. No monsters when I finally get back on and its an early night for me. Saturday night I was more relaxed and was doing great until I went completely card dead, a couple of steals went wrong and im left with an average stack with only 100ish runners left, payout is 63. My cards didn’t improve so I kinda folded my way into the money. Tonight was my final attempt to win some big bucks but unfortunately my AK suited was no match against the mighty 77 and it was a very early exit. Results are Tuesday 208/630 Thursday 257/581 Saturday 57/547 $200 Sunday 493/727 What have I learnt? Well I know now that if I had a bigger bankroll I would feel quite comfortable playing this game on a regular basis. My results weren’t great but I didn’t feel out of my depth which I expected to TBH. There are just as many fish in a $100 as a $10 surprisingly. I like the software on Mansion, its simple and straightforward though I did find the “dong” sound rather annoying. I have learnt to play a bit more aggressively thanks to DC cds and also to a very kind blonde who watched my entire first game without my knowledge and then gave me a few tips on where I could improve. One piece of advise is the best I have ever had and helped me a lot. THANK YOU XX Most important my love for the game has been revived, I feel I have improved my game this week and I haven’t felt that for a long time, who knows with the $200 I won giving me 2 more entries I might hit the jackpot yet. Thanks Blonde and Mansion ;applause; ;applause; ;applause; ;applause; ;applause; Title: Re: My Mansion experience Post by: Wardonkey on May 21, 2007, 01:07:42 AM :goodpost:

Good luck in your adventure in the mansion $100k, if you satellite in that $200 could go further than two more attempts... Title: Re: My Mansion experience Post by: matt674 on May 22, 2007, 01:18:00 PM Just because it is a $100 tourney doesnt mean that everyone has paid $100 to enter, of the 500 runners that enter chances are 400 are also sat there thinking "oooh $100 is a higher limit than i normally play, lets see if i can run with the big boys" because they've either qualified in a promotion or thru a satellite.
And even if you didn't hit the big 5 figure sum it sounds as though playing in the tourneys has done you the world of good confidence wise and you've learned from the experience so overall its been +EV to coin a poker phrase ;) From reading previous posts on blonde lack of confidence is your downfall, hopefully this will have enabled you to banish your demons once and for all!! :) so is it worth putting £1 on you to be the first woman to win the WSOP main event then? ;D (my last tip of Silo to win by 2010 seems to have hit a stumbling block!!) ;goodluck; Title: Re: My Mansion experience Post by: suzanne on May 22, 2007, 03:18:05 PM Lack of confidence has always been my biggest downfall. I lack confidence in life in general so I suppose its bound to show in my poker game but im working on it ;)
I have been playing online for a good few years now and I have to admit that although I wanted to improve my game I have been really lazy and not really done much about it. I have bought books that have went unread and even paid to join an online poker school but cancelled it a couple of weeks later as playing the $5 mtt in 10mins seemed more fun than improving my game. Reading this forum is the only "studying" I have done. Playing in the Mansion games were a real eye opener. I actually found them easier to play than my usual $5/10, I cant find the words to explain why...it just was. Watching DC video clips made me aware that I dont bet enough into a pot, my normal raise would be a standard 3xBB always has been and it never occurred to me it might be wrong. By betting just 3BBs its cheap enough for someone with a mid hand to see the flop and perhaps hit. Betting 5x BB saw less callers and also got more chips in the middle if I had a monster. Another thing I discovered is the power of the reraise. My normal reaction to a raise would be "oops he must have a better hand than me...i had better call". I saw much more reraising on Mansion and quickly realised that you dont get in a pot unless you are prepared to go allin, this in itself forced me to be more aggresive and I actually found I quite liked it :-) Its funny how you can plod along for years and then one little tweak in your game and its like another piece of the jigsaw has been found. I dont know about first woman to win WSOP rotflmfao I will be more than happy the day I actually win a blonde comp, that will be my first goal.
