Title: top of spanish league Post by: thedadi on May 21, 2007, 03:02:00 PM whats the best format for a league? I find the end of the spanish league a wee bit dissapointing because of the "head 2 head" results rather than goal difference. Madrid are top with goal diff of +25 ish
Barca 2nd with goal diff of +36 ish both on same points, 3 games 2 go. Title: Re: top of spanish league Post by: The Baron on May 21, 2007, 03:18:28 PM Personally I much prefer the head-to-head rule.
Goal difference is a harsh way to lose a league over a season. I also used to love the old Italian way of a play-off although I'm not sure they do that anymore. Title: Re: top of spanish league Post by: Graham C on May 21, 2007, 03:25:32 PM Harsher way to get relegated eh Mr Warnock :D
I agree with Mr Baron (welcome back?/Hello :) ) GD is a harsh way to lose out on things, H2H is a better way if points are even. Title: Re: top of spanish league Post by: Ironside on May 21, 2007, 03:33:29 PM i pefer GD but think GS is even better it encourages attacking football

I also used to love the old Italian way of a play-off although I'm not sure they do that anymore. Goal difference is a silly rule and my club has won a title on goal Difference (1986) and also lost one on goal difference (2003) so it's not sour grapes talking as both titles should have gone to a play off IMHO. (although I think we'd have won both play offs ;) ) How can you decide 38 games worth of toil and effort on who can rattle the most goals past a mid-table side on the last day of the season? The Italians have the right idea. If you finish level on points it's a play off. Imagine if Celtic & rangers had to play off for the league? LOL!! |
