I would say Southampton, Charlton and West Brom/Derby would be my favourites Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: 77dave on May 22, 2007, 03:54:16 PM Do you think leicester will pick up 6 points from them next season i think he will do well there a obv will be one of the favs to come up how do you feel about leicester getting martin allen who are your favs to come up next year going to be a tought division again next year sheff utd west brom/derby wolves to get promoted next year for me martin allen is the type of manager we need...tough and demands hard work from his players...we have too many shirkers and realsitically we need a big clear out and then we can build a competitive squad would be good if izale mcleod came with him! reputedly the tansfer budget is in the £8m region, I would think Allen could give us a team challenging for the top 6 with that however it is a horror of a division to get out of west brom/derby, southampton, charlton, sheff u, sheff wed, watford, wolves just for starters. Who says Darren Bent is going to leave? ;) Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: TightEnd on May 22, 2007, 04:29:41 PM quote] Chris Iwelumo on a bosman from Colchester . NOT encouraging....a poor player...slow beanpole Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: matt674 on May 22, 2007, 04:36:18 PM He got 18 goals last season and Varney 25 (albeit in league one and did miss part of season with broken toe).
If we can get 43 goals out of the two of them next season i'll be more than happy as hopefully that will put us well up in the table. It all depends on which players we manage to keep for next season out of our current squad. I can see the likes of Rommedahl and Thomas running rings round players in the championship but at the same time i can also see them not performing if they have to go to the likes of Scunthorpe on a cold rainy tuesday night in december!! Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: TightEnd on May 22, 2007, 04:39:08 PM Varney, having seen him twice, looks a good player to me
Iwuelmo benefitted from playing alongside Cureton, an excellent striker at that level... If Bent stays, which I doubt, he will make anyone alongside him look good in the CHampionship (like Kamara does for Phillips for example) Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: kinboshi on May 22, 2007, 05:43:39 PM Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: Sheriff Fatman on May 22, 2007, 05:57:05 PM I think Charlton will go straight back up, not sure about the other two relegated clubs but both have potential to do so. I think the Blunts will do worse under Robson than they would under Warnock - I'm just not sure he's the right appointment for them.
If West Brom don't go up next week, then they will next season. Can't say the same for Derby, who have had a great season this year but I'm not sure if it will repeat to quite the same extent. Southampton and Wolves should also be there or thereabouts. One of the best teams I saw this season were Norwich, but they obviously could string any consistency together. If they hang onto Huckerby and Earnshaw then they should be up there next season. Obviously the big question in this league is will Barnsley overcome the shit chairman/shit manager combo for a second season and avoid relegation again? Everything else is just stuff that goes on in the background. Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: TightEnd on May 22, 2007, 06:00:00 PM Derby have two excellent talents in Holmes and Fagan who will be premiership bound if they do not go up this summer
whereas West Brom would keep Koumas, Ellington, Davies etc I find the Championship much more fascinating that the Premiership...where managers on budgets can fashion teams to win reallyt tight divisions.... Unfortunately the shirkers and fancy dans seemed to win there. Wasn't overly keen on Souness but it seemed that the players weren't keen on his tough approach which ultimately resulted in his failure. Title: Re: Bryan Robson Post by: Pelham Boy on May 22, 2007, 08:11:37 PM Have to agree with Tighty about Martin Allen.
There will however be a lot of unrealistic ambition related to Leicester next season. We are a long way off being a side capable of challenging for promotion IMO. It took Portsmouth 5 years to go up after Mandaric took over,in which time he went through 5 managers. I hope that is something he has learned from if Allen gets the job, because given time i think he could be a real gem. |
