Title: Poker ideas please....
Post by: phatomch on May 31, 2007, 02:37:15 PM
I know I am going to regret this...

Hi for anyone that does not know me I am a cardroom manager for Grosvenor Casino's I am also the GUKPT tour manager.

With the upcoming gaming law changes in September the casino groups are going to be able to offer alot more to our customers in the regards of poker.

With this in mind I have chosen to ask you good people on Blonde for any ideas that you may have seen in the states or around europe that you would like introduced into your competitions at Grosvenor's . I would like to point out that I have no say about what is introduced at other Grosvenor's but in my own Casino I do.

All of these ideas I will take to the national meeting's that I have the great fun of attending and put them forward for all casino's to use at there own choice.

Please try to keep these requests/ideas as sensible as possible, we are a company and have to still make buisness decisions so Camel don't ask for no juice on televised comps and Flushy stop whining about your £10 kept at Brighton you ate it in buffets anyway.

Thankyou Ladies and Gentleman

Dear god save me......

don't have to sit in your seat for the first hand......

added value into non GUKPT festivals.....

out of interest, how are the Grosvenors palnnig to deal with the raking of cash games post September..what is going to be expected of players re tipping?

Post by: phatomch on May 31, 2007, 02:51:05 PM
Grosvenor has not fully decided on Raking yet and as for tipping if it does come in (will know 31st July) it is down to you, you can tip as little or as much as you like it is done on a voluntry basis.

sorry I can't help anymore than that but when I know for certain I will post.

The alternate's though WILL BE HAPPENING

A couple of ideas that i've half inched from other comps and the t'internt:

- In re-buy comps the option (as on Stars) to be able to re-buy straight away or at any point when you're under your starting stack (i believe this is impossible at the moment due to GC rules?)

- Also how about comps where it's pot limit pre-flop and no limit post flop (i believe mansion poker dome was this format).

- bad beat jackpot run throughout the grosvenor chain

Bring back pints of free soft drinks, not those annoying little glasses that contain only 2 mouthfuls. Could just be cardiff grosvenor so not sure.

Will have a serious think throughout the day but not a lot to comment on with cardiff grosvenor. They have changed the tourney schedule which is now very good IMO and also Sean is an exellent manager so pretty happy.

Ok I thought of another:

I've not played in it perhaps Pab or someone else who has can confirm but...

- Using the Aussie Millions as a model - perhaps in big comps from say 30-40 players left tables are never more than eight handed.

I like the first one and i think that it can easily be introduced, it will bump up the pots alot give extra value which should get extra runners in the long term.

the second one i am not sure what players will think of this, in a rebuy it'll mean you may have more limpers pre-flop which again will induce more re-buy's = bigger pots

the third I believe newcastle tested a version of this i will look into it.

keep them coming

This is a in house decision and I am afraid i have no power over but I agree Sean is not to bad.. A fish in the cash game in the hotel..

MTT's that suit those that work for a living rather than finishing at 3-4 in the morning?

Kudos to you for having the courage to start this thread. (Give that man a seegar!!)

I Would like to see

Comps that start on time

Comps that start earlier

Clarification and consitency re rules (especially the showdown rule)

Dealers who look out for and take action against collusion. Players often openly collude, i.e. "Let's check it down" "We don't bet against each other" Dealers are are unsure about when to step in. Dealers should also prevent players from showing cards to other players before passing or commenting on hands they are not involved in.

Penalties for players leaving the table before it's their turn to act and so effectively passing out of turn.

Tables balanced quickly.

A 150/300 level.

Details of starting chips, clock and blind structure available for every comp when I ring the front desk instead of the receptionist of some casino that is 100 miles away saying "Can you ring back at 7:30?" Of course I can ring back, but I will not have time to travel to the venue should I decide to play.

When I question something, I never, ever want to be told, "Because we've always done it that way"

Thanks for compliment red

Firstly Grosvenor casino's has just drafted a full set of rules that every cardroom in the group will now be working of, it will be active very soon and it should mean that consistancy across the group will start.

The showdown rule is included and a penalty for any out of turn action is also in it.  So thats 2 covered already.

I agree with you on the receptionist should know everything and i'll put out a suggestion tonight across the group as i said I can not order people to do this but i will do my best.

the blind levels are all decided in house so I am afraid I can't help there, but I will pass on all this info.

As for "because we've always done it that way" that should be re-duced with the new rules.

Keep them coming folks.

good post

-Yes please for us workers. A start on the stroke of 7.30pm would be perfectly reasonable.

-Ability to buy in for bigger comps either over the phone with debit cards, or using your online site up to say 24 hours beforehand.

-Standardised rules across your chain.

-Ability to withdraw/deposit funds from Blue Sq.com at your casinos for use for buyins/cash games etc.

-Time Penalties for verbal abuse/bullying at the table and criticism of play.

If you could sort out the G casino mailing list such that it could actually send flyers to potential punters and get its comps flyers in other Grosvenor estate casinos then you would become my hero.

This task has so far failed Dr Stephen Hawking, NASA scientists, Bill Gates, the Enigma code breakers at Bletchley Park and intriguingly, Jade Goody.

-Time penalties for bullying/verbal abuse-   We have already included this in our new rules, Grosvenor allow moody but the line must   be drawn at offensive behaviour. The penalty will be done to the t/d to give out and after a warning will go to being sin binned for upto 3 laps of the table and possible removal from the comp and possible ban from the casino.

this may be asilly question but have you ticked "intrest in poker" on you membership form for your local casino. If not they will not send you stuff just because you are on our national database with a intrrest in poker.

- Late registrations (up to say end of 2nd level)
- Ability to be bought in by a friend and your stack be at the table (being suitably anted off) and you not having to be in your seat for the 1st hand. Helps for when you're stuck in traffic (like i've been many a time trying to get to Luton)

All in all will help increase runners/prize pools

At the moment we can not do this as the g/b say you must be sat in your seat at the start, but in September this will change as long as we have your money you can turn up at anytime.

And how about late registrations...ie the ability to buy in up to a set time after the comp has started. This works well in the Bellagio, as an example, and boosts runners for their tournaments

Many of these initiatives have been in operation at APAT tournaments for close to a year now.  I think it is entirely realistic that they will be rolled out at Grosvenor in the not to distant future.

Thanks phatomch, great initiative.

As you know, I'm pretty much 100% supportive of the way Grosvenor run, support & organise Tournament Poker, though every time I say as much, I have a little stalker who lobs sarcastic remarks at me, but so be it.

Some of the changes I'd like to see are currently GC restricted (alternates etc), so that'll take care of itself when the law changes.

A few things I would wish to see are pretty much the same as Red-Dog's Post, but specifically.....

1) A few more Omaha Tourneys - but Freezeouts, please.

2) At Festivals, NO rebuys, freezeouts create a level playing field.

3) Continue with the buffets, these are much appreciated by almost all.

But more than anything else, & the only major failing in Grosvenors that really irks me - start Events on time, please! I can barely recall - Yogi at Blackpool apart - a Grosvenor Fessie Event that began on time.

If I think of any more suggestions, I'll re-Post.

In the interim, keep up the great work, Tournament Poker in the UK without Grosvenor is just unthinkable.

Could you consider banning drinks being placed on poker tables, please? They ALWAYS get knocked over, da de da de da. To be fair, more "side tables" are needed in some Venues.

Needless to say, all "organised" Touneys should be fully dealer-dealt. Do the job properly, & charge whatever it costs, has to be the way.

Ok you might start on time i dont know.

Grosvenor run all their 2 way weekend comps like yours early, hardly fair to compare your comps to a week night Grosvenor event.

All the 2 day events Grosvenor run also have a 150-300 level.

I wasn't aware that APAT had a reception.

APAT does not have weekly competitions to my knowledge so how do i reg for them online?

Money thrown in you have them on, however you have less events a year than Grosvenor run a year.
