Title: Dog years
Post by: RED-DOG on May 31, 2007, 05:29:16 PM
They say 1 year for a human is about equivalent to 7 years for a dog, that's basically true if you measure the whole of the dogs life, but during the first year this rule doesn't apply.

By the end of the first year, all but the biggest breeds will have become adult, terriers and toy breeds are, to all intents and purposes, adult by about 8 months.

Kizzy is about 4 months old now, and as such her age is equivalent to that of an an adolescent girl. This means she is naughty enough to be scolded often, but too cute to stay mad at.

Is that the look that has got you arrested in the past?

Lovely pics Tom!

Are her ears always "up" like that, or just when she's been alerted to, ori nterested by, something?

Considering the fact that they are supposed to be a "pure breed" the Yorkie's physical characteristics vary a surprising amount, not least in size and colour. They can be anything from about 4 to 12lbs in weight and as many shades and combinations of silver and gold or black and tan as you can imagine.

Ears can be fully erect, totally floppy, or somewhere in between. Kizzy's are always up, even while she's sleeping. The only time she lowers them is to show aggression or submission.

You've made me feel guilty now, I assumed her ears were pricked because she was listening for something. Please tell her I think she looks just fine the way she is.  :)

Those are great pics! Would almost make me wanna go out and get a dog, if only I can get over the barking.
Am more a cat person myself.
Was just standing in my conservatory checking out the latest trippy sunset we're getting and saw a lovely grey tom with white tomtom feet, must be about 12 years old, I know that cos 12 years ago it ran off as a kitten! Didn't recognise me, sadly......

A dog should only bark if there is a reason to bark, and should stop on command.

Dogs are willing and eager pupils, they want, nay need a teacher.

It's amazing how soon the grey kicks in to the black and tan of Yorkie pups.

Four months old and got grey hair, what have you been putting her through ???
