Title: Vegas Post by: snoopy1239 on June 06, 2007, 11:45:20 PM Going to book my Vegas flight tonight. However, I get very bored very quickly and so need a good selection of films. Comfortable chairs wouldn't go amiss too!
Out of the following, which would you say is the best for long flights? British Airlines American Airlines US Airways Air Canada United I can't remember who I went with last year, but the films all sucked - I was left having to watch some shite called 'She's The Man'. Great! Title: Re: Vegas Post by: scotty2hatty on June 06, 2007, 11:48:09 PM I know little about which flights would be best. But, She's the man is a great film!

Title: Re: Vegas Post by: Claw75 on June 06, 2007, 11:51:31 PM Out of those I've only flown with British Airways, and been different every time. Longest flight I did with them was direct to LA. One film shown on the flight - no seat back TVs - one screen in the middle of the plane. 11 hour flight and got one meal, an ice cream and a couple of finger sandwiches - was famished by the time I landed. On the plus side, the plane was pretty empty so I got four seats to myself to have a lie down.
Following year flew with them to Chicago and a lot better - choice of films, seat back TV etc. Still not overly generous with the food though as I recall. Might be worth checking out their websites to see what the in-flight service is like, or taking a look at somewhere like tripadvisor. Title: Re: Vegas Post by: The_nun on June 06, 2007, 11:51:42 PM Well i just got back from vegas....and guess what ... i slept all the way home .................after only paying (well mr nun) 362 for both of us ...so no inflight entertainment needed to excuse the extra cost of schedual flights (mytravel direct from Mamchester)..Butttt saying that .. we have flown AA a few times and find them comfortable and very good inflight entertainment if thats what ticks your box...

Title: Re: Vegas Post by: Woodsey on June 07, 2007, 12:40:49 AM All pretty similar TBH. The American companies tend to be less liberal with the booze though.
Title: Re: Vegas Post by: The_nun on June 07, 2007, 12:46:51 AM I have flown buisness BA... cant sat they they were that great compared to the other sched's ..but not flown standard with them....but i do coment only on price... if cheap n cheer full why pay a fortune for so called free drinks when really you are paying more than over for them .
Title: Re: Vegas Post by: RichEO on June 07, 2007, 01:00:14 AM I flew out with virgin, they go direct.
You get your own TV and can choose any of loads of great films. There was also a games system built into the arm of the chair. You pulled out the gamepad (which doubles as a phone if you want to make the most expensive call of your life) and you can choose to play chess against the computer or against someone else on the plane. There was blackjack to play and lots of other games but I don't remember which. On the way back though we were on a different plane and no games system, still the good choice of films, more than I could watch - something to do with having been up the last 2 days straight at the tables. Maybe there is a plane spotters website somewhere that will tell you which plane is kitted out with this gear. There was a special offer on the flights for us, we booked well in advance to get it, not sure what their normal pricing is like. Title: Re: Vegas Post by: Ginger on June 07, 2007, 02:04:15 AM Air Canada was known for it's comfort and service, ask me again in a month and I'll give you a personal report lol.

Title: Re: Vegas Post by: lazaroonie on June 07, 2007, 09:01:12 AM have a checkout of www.seatguru.com
American Airlines have the most legroom and biggest seats in economy. Just make sure they are flying the newer 777 on the route you want to take. They are still flying the old 767 on the GLA-ORD route and its not the best. Of course you could try Northwest who seem to think that the DC-10 is the latest thing in air passenger transport. Nortwest - I had terrible experience with them and their coffee sucks Virgin - i don't mind them and they have all the gadgets AA - don't think they have tv screens on the seats, but if you can book the window seat - so much legroom .... Title: Re: Vegas Post by: Rooky9 on June 07, 2007, 12:17:04 PM Virgin have the best economy class entertainment system there is. Usually 5 films that you choose which to have on, plus the usual airline channel that is dedicated to one foot in the grave!
The leg room is an issue with virgin (consistency and minimum length) - even the same models of planes flying the same routes have different pitches - but if your six foot or less then it shouldn't be an issue. My Travel usually can't be beaten for value but you miss out on the air miles. Steering the thread away slightly (as it won't concern the petit Snoopy) what is the best airline for those of us who are over six feet? Flying to Vegas last year I went for Premium Economy with Virgin, and that was fine, but what about your standard cattle class - which airline has the most legroom? Malaysia Airlines... http://www.uk-air.net/seatpitch.htm I wonder if they're planning on introducing a UK-Vegas route? Title: Re: Vegas Post by: The_nun on June 07, 2007, 12:25:54 PM Airmiles, now there's another good thread starter. I managed to collate quite a few with United airlines but as yet have not managed to be able to use them for any flights, is it just meb that has problems if not does anyone have some handy tips for using them. Cheers..
Title: Re: Vegas Post by: Rooky9 on June 07, 2007, 12:35:21 PM I have quite a sad fixation with gathering airmiles...
I have a bmi membership. I get miles for flying with bmi and other 'star alliance' members (of which united is one, and virgin counted towards until recently) I have a bmi credit card that I use for work and you get a mile for every pound, plus a large signing on bonus. You get air miles for staying a night in partner hotels, such as hilton and jurys. Next month I will have enough points for a free (well apart from the tax element) business class return flight to vegas (bmi's longest route), I have had the membership for just under two years. I have sampled the life of the top level lounges at Heathrow and Glasgow and I think I could get used to it! You should be able to spend you airmiles from of the star alliance members with any of the others. Bmi have an online system, letting you spend miles just like you would normally book flights with cash over the internet (for their routes) I'm not too sure about other airlines but they should have a support phone number who will let you know the rules about cross member bookings etc. Title: Re: Vegas Post by: CRIPPIN on June 07, 2007, 12:41:26 PM there is an business seat only flight, from Stanstead I think. From what I remember it's £600+ which is good value for a business class flight. I'll try to find the details if anyone is interested.
Title: Re: Vegas Post by: The_nun on June 07, 2007, 12:42:13 PM Every time I have tried to cash in my miles with star alliance all i get is ..No airmile seats available on this flight. I just generated mine from using United / BMI ..in the end i have given up trying to cash them...

Most London -> US routes now use the 777 aircraft which has a seat back screens. the older 767 does not. You can check the website to tell you which plane flies on which route. |
