Title: Something for the weekend? Post by: tikay on June 15, 2007, 12:26:00 PM Years ago, that was a euphanism, usually used by Barbers, but that's not what I mean!
Anyway, what you up to this weekend? Nice Tourney somewhere, watching cricket, going out with the kids, a date, Fathers Day Duties? I'm trying to decide between the Super-Six at Bolton (nice comp, but pricey, & "short-handed" is hardly my strength) or a really cracking & well structured £200 Jobbie in Newcastle. I seem to do better in smaller fields (fancy that!), & frequent little cashes keep the Bankroll ticking over. Decisions, decisions.... Title: Re: Something for the weekend? Post by: The_nun on June 15, 2007, 12:38:37 PM I am absolutely itching to go play live this weekend, I much prefer live to internet, but will have to settle for the odd internet game when i catch the time as have Reece staying for a week, I really can't choose my games i have to make sure i am free to see to his cares. I love the live updates when i am in this situation as it keeps in intouch with poker so hoping we have a live feed from Bolton?...If I was free it would be Newcastle for me i think.

Tomorrow we are going to a small party on a barge moored near Chelsea bridge. Sunday weather permitting take my boy to play golf / pitch and putt he's ten.
It's been a funny week as he has had a week away with his school. I really miss him. My daughter is doing her exams. She is sixteen. She has to work hard for anything she gets as not a natural. Add the fact that I have noticed lots of young chaps calling at the door and my blood pressure is not good. I try to give them the evil eye but I suppose it's life. On a poker front I really feel I have got my game back. I had only played in London this year but over the last two weeks went to Walsall and Bournemouth. Went deep in Walsall before exiting two away from the money. Last night in Bournemouth again finished three away. As for where to play the weekend. I have never been to Boltonand no nothing about the place. Bournemouth should be good fun and their is the added advantage of the night spots and retirement homes for Tikay. Newcastle might be wet but a night out on the "Toon" should be fun. Bring an interpeter. Is the ship still parked under the bridge. I remember falling down the stairs once. They have the strangest thing going on up their. Lots of queues to get into places. Even when the weather is rubbish girls will wear little or nothing. Their is a god. Ah I remember it well from my years in Durham. Title: Re: Something for the weekend? Might even fork out the $50 for the live feed and hopefully watch Stuart Fox win a bracelet (unless anyone knows a cheaper option ;D) Title: Re: Something for the weekend? Even when the weather is rubbish girls will wear little or nothing. Their is a god. Ah I remember it well from my years in Durham. I think Newcastle is the most vibrant & exciting City in England. Thery have dealt with their traffic problems well, the Architecture is good by UK Standards, the girls are something else, the place just buzzes, driving across the bridge into Newcastle always makes the pulse quicken. And yes, the "ship" is still "parked" (we sailors say moored, actually....) under the bridge. A walk along the riverside late at night, thay have a lovely boardwalk, is not to be missed. Apparently, if you cross the River, you are in Gateshead, so it's a beautifuly defined natural boundary. If time to spare, drop down to Durham, arguably Britain's finest Cathedral, it "sits" so well on the hill above the town, & frames the town superbly. You have a 16 year old Daughter? - wow, that must be bittersweet, when the boys start to get interested! You ever watch that film, with Steve somebody - "My Darling Daughter", or "my Daughter's Wedding"? The fella comes home & puts his hand on her thigh.....Dad;s blood pressure ROCKETS! This was one of the best events of last year and cannot be missed imo It's a bit weird, I was looking forward to it, but now I am just wavering a bit. Short-Handed play is a weakness for me, so that's maybe not the wisest way to invest a grand. And I've built a decent bankroll, &, well, I'm a bit odd with Bankroll, the more I have, the more I seem to want to try & protect it. Plus, I do better in smaller comps, between £200 & £500, & the atmo in these is lovely, it's kinda more intimate than being squished in with a few hundred others. I do agree though, the Bolton comp is a beaut, & fair play to Blue Square for adding £20k, great stuff. Same with Vegas, I was agonising, "shall I go across & play the Main Event, I'd love to, but $10k is a lot of nice little comps in the UK, that'd keep me going for 6 months over here". Then Poker Week said they'd like me to go across with & do some work (= earn some money....), & a few other "commissions" fell my way. Suddenly, I was not bothered about the Main Event, Compo & me can just play comps around Town, have some fun, no pressure, I can do my "job" properly without worrying about playing too much, & I'd come home with more money than I went with. Vegas's bright lights hold no appeal for me, I can enjoy myself in Walsall or Cardiiff in a £200-er just as much. I think age brings with it caution, & the long view, as to Bankroll. I adore Tournament Poker, & want to play it for a while yet. I see these guys shelling out a grand every week, for little return, & many of them are having to "nip" left right & centre, & I think, "well, each to their own". In the real world, a grand is a shed-load of money, but in poker, we can easily get blase, a grand here, a grand there. Being old is a bad thing Russ. Title: Re: Something for the weekend? I have never operated with a bankroll - in my professional life I earn more than enough money to keep me comfortable, and also could afford to spend a bit on my poker. Its funny, cos my missus wouldnt think twice about spending a grand on something or other for the house, but a grand on apoker tournament (where I would at least have a chance of making some money back) ?? As i have always worked and helped out on the farm, and the fact im the only one oft he grandchildren to actually want to stay in the countryside, the family have agreed i can have it for as long as i want rent free. So I hope to live there til i hopefully go back to college and pass out which should be around 6 years then look to build on the land after that. Edit, think id better put an 'o' in countryside! Title: Re: Something for the weekend? Post by: ariston on June 15, 2007, 05:55:14 PM Tony the biggest comps I have ever bought myself in for was robs home game a couple of years ago and even that was won online and transfered across from a site. I think the biggest ammount I have ever got out of my wallet (which was my own money) was the odd £500 or £300 event. I would not stump up a grand to play every week I am just lucky with qualifiers and the odd bit of sponsorship here and there thats all. I am playing the poker6 for someone who wanted me to play a couple of events at the wsop for him but as I am not going he has decided to put me in some UK events instead.
