I just played my first ever 6pak.  A horrible beat meant that It lasted 3.5 minutes (for me). - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

but thats not the point of the post.. I was sat there wandering about the prize structure, strategy etc. (1st - 75% 2nd - 25%) and thought surely the strategy here is to immediately from the outset, play to win and play aggressively.

But is there any value in these? - Having to finish 1st to make any decent money as 2nd doesnt even get you 1.5X your money back.

How do 6pakkers approach these tournies?

They are very aggressive in my opinion. The prize split is crazy. And they are open to collusion.

I start off very tight in these only playing the most premium of hands and showing when i win. The blinds arnt worth any sneaky moves earl on , after a couple of levels i will open up raising on my table image and position rather than my cards. Then as players drop out or the blinds increase, i will become hyper aggressive playing permium hands and good hands for all of my stack (or theirs) and also  picking my spots for the odd steal, with position and stack size ect being the most influencing factors.

Vaue wise u have to win to show any so your heads up game needs to be good and it helps to get there with the lead or enough to push and steal.

I play loose, which is against my style, but works for me in 6paks. You've gotta make the most of it while the blinds are low IMO because it WILL become a crapshoot later. And what's the difference between crashing out in 6th and grinding in 3rd?

I love the 6pack games - as I can be more confident in my hands than I can be in a 9 seater. I agree it's a bit more of a crap shoot - but when you are lacking in time it's nice to know you can get a game in and feed the addiction.

i play a lot of these and play squeaky tight until four handed...usually we are four handed very quickly, I then get aggressive and go for 1st. Because I've played tight to that point I can steal, bluff etc for about a level or more typically before they catch on.

However I posted a while ago this strategy and Ironside, amongst others, countered with a strategy that basically went for it from the beginning, which made me think. I tried this and it didn't suit me.

I also play them relatively loose to start with. You don't want to be going into the final few as the shortstack, with someone else having over half the chips as of course its all about first place. In the latter stages I get a lot more aggressive than I would in an stt. I can't get my chips in the middle fast enough in the last 3! Yeah it may be a bit of a crapshoot but you still get a lot sitting there too tight waiting for 2nd place whose chips you'll take, so I'm not complaining. It's understandable to sit back for the money in stt's but won't work in the long run in 6paks so basically I just gamble when I can!

Working for me so far and I definately see a lot of value in these as I think many aren't to sure how to play them in comparison to stt's which are a lot more abc.

i play these on crypto all the time, i much prefer them to 10 seater games.
i play them quite loose at first try to see a few flops and play them really aggressive when i hit. if you can take 1 person out early it gives you a nice lead then you can wait for hands and then play them aggresively you quite pften get paid off
