Title: De Wolfe getting hammered by........... Colin Murray?!
Post by: George2Loose on June 18, 2007, 12:14:35 AM
Anyone else watching EPT???

Colin Murray is laying into De Wolfe big time- to be fair he's not making the best reads but Murray makes some ridiculous comments about people's play.

Anyone else think he's a shit commentator?

Shouldn't you be concentrating on a WSOP seat?

I hadn't watched any of the epts till recently - i watched the 2004/5 series and how John Duthie keeps hiis calm is beyond me. Murray incessantly makes absurd comments that Duthie tries to diplomatically to "discuss", but despite this Murray tries to slag off Duthie who he seemingly dooesn't realise is doing his best to try and stop him appearing to be the complete idiot that he is.

yeh it did, pissed me right off.

I think colins ok just treat him as a normal guy and not an expert, not that you would anyway, but he has been bang on with everything he said about de wolfe, he has been playing ridiculously and getting very lucky!!!!
And i have a new found respect for vicky coren now as they say she got lucky to win the london ept, well thats BS now coz look at the luckster rowlands been and everyone gives him massive credit as a player.
Its not hard to be a great player when you're hitting everything as a 35% dog, hell even i could have sat there and done what he did (debatable!). PRIME EXAMPLE was the thornsen 99v rowland J3 hand, he played it absolutely awfully, in fcat if someone had played like that in the blondepoker tounrey tonight u would never rate that player again!!!!

Rant over, God Bless!

At the same time that De Wolfe hit the Jack on the river against Yong, I had someone hit a 5 on the river to crack my aces - I think we were both pulling the exact same gutted face (though mine was only a $200 SNG).

Murray is terrible, you can hear the frustration in Duthies voice. I saw one hand where somebody hit a set on the turn and the other guy had a pair of nines with an ace kicker.

CM "He needs a 9 and he need it fast"

JD "But...that would give X a full house"

CM "At this point he is drawing dead, lets see if the river can save him"

only for the channel to avoid showing the end?????

Infuriating or what??

I don't mind Colin Murray.  He's no worse than any of the football commentators who spout a lot more nonsense than he does.

I don't think he'd claim to be a poker expert - that's the role of the person alongside him (Duthie, Raymer, etc.).

And I would agree with you kinboshi if he didnt try and analyise the game.

Classic example- guy utg has about 8 bb's left finds K10- auto push.

Murray berates him for pushing with such a weak hand when he gets called by AQ

Then 4 limpers into a pot- De Wolfe has AQ, he's been rising with all sorts of shite earlier- Murray then comments on the fact that De Wolfe is turning the hand into a crapshoot by raising (WTF?) even tho he induces a big bluff from Nick Slade with J9

Stick to raido Colin (which you're shite at too incidentally)

Is the EPT producing their own shows? If so, if John Duthie's frustrated with Murray (fair enough, I quite like Murray on Fighting Talk where his style is just right but he irritates the pants off me on the EPT shows) why doesn't he just get rid of him?

Haven't watched it yet. Did the show just stop, or did they just wrap it up without showing anything after they agreed to the chop leaving only around 60k Euros to play for?

I read elsewhere that mr Murray has been taking his new found poker knowledge to new levels and can be found donating large sums of money in cash games throughout London.

anyone confirm this ?

I find Colin Murray more irritating than the Sh**s after having a hot vindaloo with a double doze of spicy onions!

He really, really antagonizes me.  There is nothing more irritating that seeing some mupprt on the TV trying analyze something they know nothing about.  If John Duthie had any sense he'd ditcth the specky toss pot and get someone in who can discuss poker and who doesn't irritate you with his constant mistakes and slagging of players and indeed of JD.

We should start a campaign to get Murray sacked!

Lets get this clear murray knowing nothing about poker is not necessarily a problem, is the fact that he tries to be an expert. His role is simply to commentate on the action and then let John Duthie make expert comments.

I have to say I don't mind him and i often listen to his radio show, though they might be to do with the fact that we share similar tastes in music.

Lets get this clear murray knowing nothing about poker is not necessarily a problem,

Its a problem to me!  Its like when I see ex footballers on the telly who where no better than average or indeed tossers like Hansen who where decent but never took on the reigns as a manager criticise managers for their tactical know how.

Its a big part of my enjoyment when watching something that requires an analytical perspective - I enjoy watching, hearing presenters who can make a worthy comment and not just stoop to levels of abusing and becoming critical of players.

How can you criticise a pundit when you've never done it?

He's criticising managers - but has never been a manager himself.  You think that's wrong.
You're criticising pundits - but you've never been a pundit yourself.  Mmmm....

I like Hansen and Colin Murray.   ;nanana;

LOL- I like the logic.

I agree with the poster earlier- it's the fact he tries to analyise a game he probably knows next to zilch about

I love it when he compares the tournament to his home games.

You can't compare Murray to Hansen Hansen has a brilliant knowledge of the game and is pretty entertaining. Murray is a moron yep I just think it's funny all the idiotic comments he comes out with, so ignorant :D. Still, undisputably the best commentator is Raymer, shame you don't get more of him he is really good with his analyses.

Colin Murray is not someone that I have strong views on one way or the other, but he is normally enthusiastic about the game and quite entertaining.
As for Roland de Wolfe his record speaks for itself, but must admit from his televised poker that I have seen of late he doesn't look very good.
