Title: Poker 425 - This Week's Show, starting tonight (Wednesday)
Post by: tikay on October 12, 2005, 03:29:35 PM

Unusully, no "Live Venue" footage this week.

We have two good interviews though.

In Part One, we "do" Tony G, an in-depth interview. I am not sure if it will change opinions about the man, but I think it'll make a few peeps think. We discuss Paris, The Vic, heads up strategy (fascinating), the 3 players he most respects (he did not merntion me, which is odd...) & the perils of youngsters getting in too deep money wise with online poker & the easy availability of credit. He claims to be Australian, so I said I assumed he'd prefer to be English. He disagreed. Hang him, that's my view. But the highlight, for me, was him discussing his heads-up strategy at The Vic against Sverre Sundbo.

Part Two includes a nice interview with Greg Raymer. I make no apologies for bigging up Greg - I reckon he's the tops, & we discuss him at length.  Unusually, I saw a partial viewing of the completed show, & I was embarassed to say I was rather more blunt in my comments about Chris Moneymaker than perhaps I should have been. But what's said is said, too late to worry now.

And for those of you that watch Channel 425 during the afternoon (surely there must be SOMEONE who does) they are starting a new Sports Betting show this afternoon. Plan is, (beware, incoming spam...) that they are going to ring me at about 5.05pm this afternoon, & I am going to do a live phone-call "on air", the idea being to trail tonight's show.

Whatever next?

Is there any chance of Poker 425 being streamed/available for download from the website? I hear all these wonderful things about it but, alas, can't watch it because I only have cable, and not Sky.

Andrew.

Yes, go to......

http://www.poker425.com/

They usually show "this weeks" filmed venue footage, & inteviews, on Windows Media Player, Real Time, & summat else.

Then they change it each Wednesday. They do NOT stream the studio chat, can't think why.......

Ah well, I'll just have to take your word for it that it's good.

Yeah, sorry about the cat sound effects.

I made the mistake of going near the fridge. The fridge is where Charlie's (she's the old, arthritic, feisty cat, reminds me of Chili) Fresh Cream is kept, so the moment I go near it, she starts howling.

Well that was a promiisng career opening whilst it lasted.

-bw- - I repeat what I said earlier - you have a REAL talent there.

As you are a genuine blondeite, if you decide to start selling these, I see no reason why we could not supoprt you via the Poker 425 blonde Forum.

You really should think about it - the pics, though hardly flattering in MY case, are a knockout.

-bw- Robert actually looks more like your pic that his. well done.

you should definitely be doing these for cash. why not do loads of poker pros then offer them to the players in question for their own sites (after copyrighting them of copurse). You could also approach the online sites that sponsor the players and poker magazines for pics of their colomnists.

good luck with it

Just to repeat -bw-. If you decide to produce these commercially, blonde will support you along the lines that we have worked wih AdamM & shufleuphirts. Why not discuss this with Adam, via PM? We have not given Adam a bean, but we have "linked" with his venture in several ways, & we'd be pleased to do the same for you.

Now, how about one of "your" pics of Mr Burns - sorry - Dave Colclough.

Tony, when you do the 'set piece' interviews, ie Greg Raymer, why can't they have a lapel mike or something instead of waving that great monsrtosity in their face?

Why do you have to talk about Tony like that?

Title: Re: Poker 425 - This Week's Show, starting tonight (Wednesday)
Post by: tikay on October 13, 2005, 11:40:03 PM
Hi Red,

A monsrtosity eh? That like a monstrosity? (There you go Trace T, that's got him back).

The "lapel mike" picks up a lot of "clutter" or background noise from the room in which the interview is held. You will have noted that the interviews where a hand-held mike is used are usually in open card-rooms. The "lollipop" is more directional, & is used for that reason. On occasions, the furry dog thingy can be used if it can be held out of the cameras line of vision. We often hold it just under the table, where it cannot be seen, but it does require a rather contorted sitting position.

It also depends if it is desirable to see the interviewer. Most of the venue interviews for 425 are done by Rhow, & she's easy on the eye, & worth seeing, shall be say. So the lollipop is ideal. If it's a "one shot" (just the interviewee) we more often than not use the furry dog. (As in "exit interviews" after a player busts out).

For the in-depth interviews, which I usually do, we do these away from "open" venues, in a studio, or hotel bedroom. In these cases - see the Tony G, Roland De Wolfe or Paul Maxfield interviews for example - a lapel mike is used, and the footage of the interviewer (in this case me) is fiilmed retrospectively. On occasion, we use a furry dog thingy for these, too,  as long as it's out of vision. An oddity of the "in depths" is that I ask the questions, but that part is not recorded - just the answer is recorded, (we only use one camera). After the interview is finished, the single camera (we are poor) then films me asking the questions again, seemingly to the subject, but in fact I am talking to an (out of vision) empty chair. To ensure my eyes appear to be looking in exactly the right direction, they sometimes place in the now vacant chair a dummy - usually the Producer.

Finally, to my mind, the perfect interview requires ONLY the subject to be in-vision. And, ideally, little "stattaco" 6 or 8 word questions, subtly phrased, to a subject who is "sharp", will produce 2 or 3 minute replies - THAT is what I aim to do.  For that reason, I was pretty pleased, on a personal level, with the Tony G piece, except that they chose to do the "two-shots" with me in vision. But that's outwith my control.

Sorry to go on, but as you can probably tell, this TV stuff fascinates me.

Oh well, I knew my come uppance wouldn't be long in coming (people in glass houses)

The nuts and bolts part of the TV stuff fascinates me too, I really like the interviews where all the players answer the same set of questions, it's interesting to compare their views

We call them "Profiles" Red. And this makes makes my point perfectly. Little staccato questions (in this case, graphics are used), with no interviewer in sight. You see the subject, & the subject only, & the questions are phrased such that the subject can express themselves properly.

all the best,

ps, the real reason tony's questions are recorded seperately is to cover up all his cock-ups in the real interview!!!

Very smart - helped by the fact the other guy looked a _little_ casual but even so you looked really sharp.....   ;D
So much better than the bingo callers jacket you used to wear  ::)
Seriously - really good - very very impressed.

Tight end was near the top of my list but now........even stevens.........

We are away for a few days - will miss you all - and will miss the poker - we are going somewhere where they dont have casinos - sorry the dont have honest casinos so we're not gambling. Miss you all (and the poker) already.

Well I know you have to supplement your poker income with other jobs.....not being very good at it and all that ........but to wear the uniform to the studio is a bit of a cheek. Nice that you took the time to change this week.

Thanks for the colonic irrigation reference last week - I was going to say plug but it didnt seem quite right - we howled with laughter. Is it still ok to get you to wear a tshirt saying sponsored by the colonic clinic???
